This PS Portal is easily my favorite gift. With balancing work life, relationships, school, and homelife, it’s given me the convenience to play my games more in the moments that I wouldn’t have before. Most of the time when I’ve found myself having the downtime to play my PS5, it’s been while my fiancé and I are in bed and she’s either aimlessly scrolling her tiktoks or watching her tv shows. We both work full-time and go to school, so of course we want to be in the same space even if we’re doing our own thing to de-compress in our own ways. This has given me the ease of being able to lay up with her and play my games simultaneously, while she rotates like a hot dog in a gas station, switching between the tv and her phone. No more having to get everything set up on the tv or her feeling like she’s not getting attention, because i’m using the tv. In her words, this is a gift to her too since it benefits her so much. Haha, all jokes aside, I highly recommend. Also to add, anyone who claims it’s laggy or has poor connection, needs to get better wifi. I have 500mbps and no issues. Only thing I would say that could make the Portal better would be to have the ability to play any game online with a wifi connection, while away from your console. It’s possible to play from the cloud, but you have to have the highest PlayStation subscription, and even then so, you can only play games that are current in the store for that subscription, which pretty well defeats the purpose for me. Overall though, I give it a 10/10.

I was very indifferent on buying the portal but after trying it out, it is definitely worth the price if you ever wanted to play your PS5 in handheld mode. The screen has really good colors and brightness even for a LCD screen!

The playstation portal is a game changer when you have kids and a wife that love to take over my main television. The handheld works well on the network, still stutters some but most of the time runs well. The screen and battery are really well down, wish it had bluetooth, but overall its a solid buy if gaming is your hobby and you share.

I bought the PlayStation Portal through the Best Buy app—it was quick and easy. The app guided me smoothly through checkout, and I had my device within minutes. Store staff were welcoming, courteous, and ready with my order—big thumbs up to them.
⸻
Why You Might Love It
• It feels well-built and comfortable to hold.
• Using Remote Play, I could easily play PS5 games away from the TV when it was free.
• Thanks to a recent update, I can also stream select PS5 games through the cloud using my PS Plus Premium subscription—no need to turn on my console.
⸻
What You Should Know
• It’s entirely reliant on decent internet. At home, it works great. But on slower or public connections, the picture gets fuzzy and gameplay can stutter .
• You won’t find any built-in games, apps, or offline play—just PS5 streaming, whether from your own console or Sony’s cloud.
• You need a PS5 (or the cloud feature, which also needs a subscription) and solid Wi‑Fi to make the most of it.
⸻
Bottom Line
Choose the Portal if you own a PS5, enjoy playing away from the TV, and have reliable internet. It’s well-made, easy to pick up at Best Buy, and now offers cloud streaming too. Just be aware—it’s not a portable gaming console on its own, and it won’t work well without good connectivity.
Rating: 3.5/5 — Smart hardware and great service, but internet and ecosystem dependencies hold it back.

The PlayStation Portal is Sony’s first-party Remote Play device designed for PS5.
Vivid Screen: The 8" LCD screen is impressive, with vibrant colors and no smearing or ghosting. It’s larger than most phones and provides an excellent viewing experience for Remote Play.
Built-in Controller: Unlike using a tablet with a separate controller, the Portal combines the screen and controller into one device. It feels familiar, with DualSense features like vibration and resistive triggers. The touch pad is replaced by a virtual version on the screen.
Portability: The Portal lets you play PS5 games anywhere within your home. It strikes a balance between screen size and portability, making it convenient for gaming on the go.
Limited Functionality: While the controls and screen quality are excellent, the Portal lacks media functions, Bluetooth, and a touch pad. Casual PlayStation gamers may find it limiting.
In summary, if you want a dedicated Remote Play solution with a great screen and built-in controls, the PlayStation Portal is worth considering. Just be aware of its limitations.

Love it, great for gaming, light weight, easy to game for someone with smaller hands or a kid. amazing display. just remember, you have to have a PS5 to use it!

Pros: great seem less display that lasts several hours, can access any digital game installed on my PS5 and any game disc that is in the disc drive at the time, acts as an additional controller for the PS5 its connected to.
Cons: can take a little while to connect to the PS5 with a good Wi-Fi connection, does not allow to switch between profiles (even if multiple profiles are set up on your main console), does not allow other profiles to play on the main console while the portal is being utilized (may allow during multiplay, but I haven't tested this)
Had I known the cons above going into the purchase I still would have purchased a d may have rated this higher. If they make new versions/releases of this device I'd love to see the cons improved upon. At this point, It's basically a remote play accessory that has a controller and screen. O would not let pay more than the retail price for this device ($199.99 at time of purchase)

I love the Portal and its portability. I hate that you HAVE TO HAVE IT CONNECTED TO YOUR PS5 and it’s not Cloud streaming(they haven’t ruled it out in the future). The Portal has a great display and uses same form factor of the PS5 Dualsense with the addition of a huge screen in the middle. I will say the Analog sticks are 1/3 smaller than the console DualSense though and that may be an issue to some.
Now to the service….
Sony hasn’t released a patch or an update to support the bit rate of the Portal to match the console(understandable to a degree) so it causes an issue at times with gameplay and the mismatch bitrates.
Lastly, the lack of update has made it somewhat of a paperweight in some cases. A lot of people play seamlessly but others aren’t so lucky because of the Portal disconnecting every 10 secs. It’s really a luck of the draw if it’ll work for you but if it does, it’s well worth it. If it doesn’t then you may want to return it or wait til a software update/patch comes to plug the holes.
Great device. Just needs some TLC from Sony. They’ve been practically hush about it besides them being surprised it sold more than they originally thought

This wonderful piece of machinery has given me the chance to get my game on. As a grown man with responsibilites and children, those things come first. And i don't want to hog the tv by gaming, so i put it off and off and off and I never get to play on my PS5. Now I can easliy chill on the couch with my family while we all enjoy something on the big screen and I can disappear into a game-world of magic. A solid wifi connection and having the PS5 on a wired connection and rest mode helped to optimize performance. I love this thing.

Worth the money. I bought this and literally have not turned my tv back on. It’s so nice to be able to play Helldivers 2 in my hands. I have been having back problems so I can lay down and have the games on my PS5 in the palm of my hands. I only play a max of 4 hours so the battery life is great.

Pros:
- The most ergonomic controller for remote play available. Very comfortable to hold and use for extended playing sessions.
- Battery life is good
- Screen quality is great though with minor caveat (see cons)
- Overall build quality is good
- Reasonably priced
Cons
- In the current firmware build, does not has the ability to turn on Playstation remotely (can only wake from rest mode)
- In the current firmware build, does not support game streaming.
- While the screen is great, but the screen finish is prone to reflection. I recommend using a screen glare resistant screen protector.
- The analog stick is a bit more sensitive/loose than the standard DualSense, may take some getting used to.
- Depending on the game and your network connection, may have minor delays/lags during gameplay (for me personally it was very minor).
- If you are away from home, you will not be able to remote play physical games without the disc already in the PS5 console.
Verdict - Recommend for those that would like to play PS5 around the house or remotely, especially for parents that needed to take care and watch the kids around the house. Despite the minor the cons, this is overall a very solid device.

I bought this item so when my girlfriend wanted to watch TV I could still play my PS5. It works great! Has an easy setup and graphics look amazing. So far I've only played two games on it. Connections are basically having your Ps5 on and then you can change your channel to something else. It's basically another controller with a screen in the middle. I wish it was more portable like the Asus rog ally x or one of the other handheld gaming systems. But this works for my situation. Hope this helps! Thanks.

The PlayStation Portal is an overall great product with only a few drawbacks.
Positives:
1) If you have a strong connection you can play anywhere, not just on your home WiFi
2) The controller design feels really nice*
3) The screen is pretty good for being an LCD
The Negatives:
1) The connection has to be good and have no interference, if you're on a 2.4GHz WiFi signal you'll probably have issues
2) The touchpad choice is kind of poor, requiring a double tap for a click and a double tap + a third held for a held on the screen.
3) The audio lacks really fine adjustment, which I have found to lead to it being slightly loud, or almost muted.
4) The screen appears to not be HDR which on a few occasions seemed like it lead to some weird color crushing issues.
Overall the PS Portal is a great piece that I would highly recommend for someone who has kids that want the TV or someone who wants to play less realtime games while out of the house.

I saw a bunch of reviews talking about the wifi connectivity, but i have not had an issue. I run a google mesh system and as long as i am not actively walking around the house, i haven’t had the issues i was warned about. Battery life is great, about three hours of continuous play on Gran Turismo. The only issue that I’ve encountered is that you cant run two of these from one system (the PlayStation it is attached to has to be on the wifi network). But the kid can play xbox while im playing PlayStation. No worries.

Best Remote Play experience due to the controls replicating the PS5 dual sense. The Screen is bright and vibrant and even touch screen. Battery life if great although the charging is slow. As for Remote play connection and smoothness, it needs work and after 2 updates it's still not as smooth as using it on my iPhone.
