The travel case is good and the protective wrap is fine but it makes it diffuse to charge the Portal on the charging station when it's on. Charging station seems to work decent enough as long as the Portal has solid contact with the adapter. Not a bad purchase.

The PlayStation Portal is a good solution if you want to play your PS5 games on the go. The downsides is you need a decent connection to have optimal resolution or you may lose signal. I have lost signal in my own home despite having excellent signal and connection to both devices (PS5 & PSPortal)
These aren't exactly a downside, but are quite the requirements. If you have those requirements, this is a good handheld PS5 game player. The screen is bright enough, the UI is decent (now), and the controller almost feels like a real DualSense controller.
Battery life is acceptable and even good if you don't play with maximum screen brightness, as well as high volume. Which leads me to say the Portal does not support Bluetooth/wireless buds (except Sony's own specific Link buds) because of latency issues.
When I got this, there was no cloud streaming, and no 3D audio. Now you can cloud stream certain games you have purchased without needing your PS5 to be turned on. For a device that is asking for $200, many of the features it has now should have been included at launch. Two years later, I think it finally does what it should have done when it was first released. I think it's worth the price tag now if you want to game on the go and have a good internet source to connect the PSPortal as it's required to use.

Joy stick needs improvement. It doesn’t have the same force/tension to it as a regular joy stick controller so if your trying to play games with aim assist or not then it’ll throw your aim too far left or right or whatever direction you’re shooting.
Other wise generally and over all I thought this was a pretty good device. I’d preface this though that I utilize 1gig download speeds and 200mb upload speeds. I have my ps5 connected to Ethernet. Cloud gaming is not quite there yet for shooting games as there is still noticeable latency. I will say however that for me at least, the latency is not too bad; and maybe milliseconds off of a regular controller to tv experience. The only thing that bugs me the most and almost made me return this was the joy sticks issue I described above. If they release some way to modify it so it has the same tension as a dual sense controller then I’d get that. Only reason I kept this was because it’s still a good device to use when someone else is using the tv and it’s pretty decent for casual non shooter games.
Despite all this the connection will obviously vary if you take this beyond your own home internet; that is if your home internet is reliable in the first place. I found this to not work so great at my friends house but he has 500mb download speed internet, with alot of kids using other devices. Note that upload speed is more important when remote playing as the ps5 is uploading the feed to your portal.
All this being said, there is controversy online on whether the ps5 can even utilize upload speeds beyond 20mb. Many if not all ps5 owners report this issue. Speed test on the settings, even if you have over 200mb upload speeds, will typically only show that the ps5 is using maybe 18-20mbps. Yet oddly enough if you use the browser on the ps5 and speed test.net then it shows your full upload speed. It doesn’t make sense why the os5 limits upload speed. If they removed this limitation maybe the portal for all users will be much better.

I was skeptical about this product because I already owned a Steam deck. Having decided to try it, I was pleasantly surprised. Good battery life, pleasant grip and vibration. The screen was also a pleasant surprise, although it is not OLED. If you also do not always have the opportunity to play in front of the TV, I recommend giving the product a chance!

People need to stop reveiwing products based on what they want them to do, and review them based on what they promise and or offer. This is a REMOTE PLAY handheld. Not a whole new handheld system, and if it was people would complain about paying over $500 and having to buy new games. The PS5 doesnt have bluetooth so why would the portal? It would cause latency anyway. If you have good internet speed you won’t have problems with lag at all. The system is very light and comfortable. I love that it has the same controller design as the PS5 controller. The screen is beautiful and large. And it’s CHEAP for $200. A controller is $70 on its own, so you’re paying an additonal $130 to play your games handheld. It does everything it claimed very well. This is the best way to remote play. Period.

Best option for remote play on PS5, No question. Crisp 1080p screen, loud speakers, great performan if you have stable wifi connection.
A bit heavy with odd weight distribution...but still lighter and more ergonomic than any alternative.
Awkward USB-C location...power and volume buttons locations are tricky.

I got this with the intention of using it in my second floor bedroom while my PlayStation 5 is in the basement. On my home Wi-Fi this thing has worked for me flawlessly. There’s nothing like laying in your bed and playing your PlayStation. There’s nothing much to the device itself as it’s just a streaming platform. What is there feels very well-made. The screen is bright and does its job. I can’t attest to playing this on public or away from home Wi-Fi but if you’re planning on streaming in your house and you have decent Wi-Fi, it is a great device.

I bought this for my brother for Christmas and he loves it. Now he can play his PS5 games anywhere in the house, allowing him to join us in the living room when we're watching something he's not very interested in. And he set it up quickly and independently.

Love the portal! The picture quality is way better than i had expected it to be considering i also have the OLED switch. Good to play my games on the go when im on vacation or traveling for work. Cloud gaming makes it all worth it.

I took a chance on this open-box PlayStation Portal from Best Buy, and wow – it’s absolutely flawless! The device looked brand new, with no scratches, marks, or signs of use. Everything was included: original packaging, charger, and documentation.
Using it has been a game-changer for my household. I can now play my PS5 games seamlessly in any room while someone else hogs the TV. The 1080p screen is crisp and vibrant, the DualSense controls feel identical to the PS5 controller (haptics and all!), and latency is barely noticeable on my home Wi-Fi.
For the price I paid (open-box discount + Best Buy’s reliability), this was an unbeatable value. If you see an open-box unit available, grab it with confidence. A perfect 10/10!

Playstation Portal allows me to access the gaming world in any room of my home and on the road! I love this device. Connectivity could be improved, but overall a successful use of remote play

This is literally too bad overall because I LOVED THIS THING. It really really really needs it's own connectivity (besides a hotspot or a travel router) for on the go gaming. Other than that, it was perfect. It's great if you are sitting in the same room as your PS5 or even perhaps in another room or even outside (depending on your setup). It just really needs it's own feed. If an ASUS steam deck and the portal had a baby, I'd buy it.

The PlayStation Portal is a device sorely needed by PlayStation. I’ve always wanted to make my system portable and the portal sort of does that. I chose the portal over a backbone because I wanted something aside from my phone that was dedicated to on the go gaming. The portal does that. It’s a pretty large device, but it does fit my hands comfortably. My hands are by no means huge, but I could see folks with smaller hands or kids struggling a bit with the size. The display screen is amazing; great clarity and graphics. The sound is just OK. It didn’t seem like Sony put much into the portal in the way of speakers. But I can hear everything. I don’t like that you have to either connect wired headphones or use Sony branded earbuds for sound if you want some privacy or not to disturb others.
My biggest gripe is its ability to connect wirelessly. You have to have to have access to WiFi to use this device, which makes it difficult at times and only useable in certain settings. I’ve connected through my phone but that connection was not great so it as a truly portable device like the Switch is not happening. I did play at a hotel once and it worked just fine, so it does work. Funny thing is I’ve had problems connecting at home. It’s great if you want to be away from your system in a different room but I’ve noticed that my connection sometimes drops at home. The screen will lag and occasionally I’d have to reconnect to my PS5. That was crazy frustrating.
All in all, for the price (I got mine open box and on sale) it’s worth it. Here’s a big warning. If you want to buy this, make sure you start downloading games to your system. It can only play the game that is physically in your PS5. So if all you use are discs, it can only play the disc that’s in your system at that time. I don’t like that, so I’ve started to download other games to the hard drive. Since it mirrors your PS5, you can get to those.
Good product. Hopefully, they’ll make improvements over time.

I wanted this thing for a while. So happy it became in stock and I was able to purchase one. Ever since it arrived, I have played on the portal 100% of the time. I prefer playing handheld on this large beautiful screen. TVs give me a headache so playing on the portal has allowed me to play my games more often. I can finally forsee myself getting through my backlog. This is a must but product if you own the ps5 and want to play handheld. I haven’t had any connection issues while playing. I use T-Mobile home internet.
