The PlayStation Portal is the most surprising device l've
ever come away from loving after going in loaded with
skepticism. lt's such a better experience than using your
phone with a slap-on controller, and it works so much
better than I was anticipating. I really love the freedom it
gives me to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi
coverage .،

Took a while to get one, but totally worth the wait and the price. Great to be able to play on the go or on the toilet. Screen is beautiful and battery life is pretty solid. Would buy another one.

The PS Portal offers a polished gaming experience but has significant limitations that make it less appealing for households with multiple gamers.
Strengths:
The device delivers stunning visuals with sharp graphics and smooth gameplay. Connectivity over Wi-Fi is reliable, making it an excellent tool for playing your PS5 games remotely. The hardware feels premium, and it’s great for gaming on the go or away from the main console.
Weaknesses:
However, the inability to switch between user profiles is a major flaw. In a family setting where multiple people share a PS5, this limitation makes the device far less versatile. Each person would need their own Portal to play on their account, which isn’t practical or affordable for most families.
If you’re a solo gamer, the PS Portal might be perfect for you. But for families, this device falls short of expectations. Hopefully, future updates can address this key limitation.

The days of the psp are dead. Alot of people have to understand that this device may not be for everyone. If you played “Wireless play” on your smart phone or tablet it essentially does the same thing and may not be needed for u. Its not a stand alone device and always needs a ps5 and wifi connection to play. The feel is just like a ps5 controller with a sony tablet built right in between a split Dualsense. Thats literally what the device is. I fine it useful since the connection with the portal compared to my smartphone is way better. Theres less lag and games play better. Its useful to play outside in my yard without being stuck inside to play or bother anyone else. It may not be the answer to nintendos switch but its perfect for a consumer like me

The PlayStation Portal is actually really cool. I know it sucks you can only use it on wifi. And you have to have a ps5 to use it. But i love being able to just lay in bed or on the couch and play games like Call of Duty, or GTA 5. It runs pretty well if you do the right settings. If you run a Ethernet cable and put your actual ps5 settings to 1080p it runs very good. The price isnt bad, its built fairly well and its very comfortable in your hand compared to the switch.

Got this as a gift from my wife and I absolute love it. Like in other reviews, I do at times experience some lag. This device in my opinion is more suited for playing games like God of War or other role playing games. Any kind of online shooter games I think you would experience more lag. But the screen is large and vibrant. It feels great in your hands. It honestly feels like a wider PS controller. If you can get your hands on one...I highly recommend!!!

This handheld gaming device promises portable play, and in one aspect – the screen – it delivers. The display is genuinely impressive: vibrant, sharp, and a pleasure to look at. However, beyond this single positive, the device quickly reveals itself to be a "one trick pony" that can do very little on its own.
The core functionality hinges on game streaming, either through the cloud (which requires yet another subscription) or remote play from a home console. This inherent dependency severely limits its versatility. My suspicion is that using it outside my home network will be a frustrating, if not impossible, endeavor, further shackling its portability.
The feeling that this device could have been so much more is pervasive. At its current price point, the lack of standalone capabilities feels like a significant oversight. The omission of popular entertainment apps like Twitch, Hulu, and Netflix is baffling. Imagine the added value if you could seamlessly switch between gaming and watching your favorite streams or shows – it would transform this from a niche gadget to a truly compelling portable entertainment hub.
Who is this for? Realistically, this device caters to a very specific niche: gamers who absolutely need a way to play their existing library when their main TV is occupied. For anyone else, the limitations and the added cost of subscriptions make it a difficult recommendation. It's a "want" item for the dedicated few, not a "need" for the broader gaming community.
Pros:
* Excellent, visually appealing screen
Cons:
* Severely limited standalone functionality
* Cloud streaming necessitates an additional subscription
* Likely poor or non-existent functionality outside a local network
* Feels expensive for what it offers
* Notable absence of popular streaming and entertainment apps
Overall: This handheld device boasts a lovely screen, but its reliance on external sources and lack of independent features make it feel like a missed opportunity. It's a pricey way to play under specific circumstances, but its potential remains largely untapped. Unless you fall squarely into the "must-have-it" category, you might want to explore more versatile portable gaming options.

Very clean ps5 design and feel of a paddle and the graphics are good, but that also makes it need more wifi connectivity and may disconnect if youre streaming a high wifi game. Its super convenient if you dont want a big screen in front of you or want to play in a different room. Battery life isnt crazy good either, you might only have a couple hours of play time before you have to charge it again but it's expected for a portable Playstation which is cool in itself anyways

I know a lot of people got upset when they heard this was streaming device and not an actual console but hear me out... If you already have PlayStation 5 but want to be able to watch TV while gamig this is a great way to do so and it doesn't require super fast speeeds to play and not lag i had both my PlayStation and Portal running on my phone hotspot without any delay, played Fortnite, Sparking Zero, Wo Long, amd Tekken woth no delay or lag. Also this machine runsbmuch smoother than remote play no contest. Now you might be thinking why buy this when the Switch exists. Well ilyl tell you why, both this and the Switch support 1080p 60FPS. But where this triumphs since this streams directly from the PS5 games look great and run great, take Fortnite for example, that game on the switch is awful. On the Portal you get amazing looking quality. Bit I'm rambling, yes its not the hand held people wanted but it does a good job at doing what sony wanted it to do.

I missed the original launch by minutes. Took me a few months to get my hand on it and let me tell you it was worth it! Brings back that nostalgia of owning a PSP as a teen. No more turning off the game because the TV has to be turned off or used for something else, this device allows you to continue playing without interfering with the use of your TV. I’m very happy with this purchase!

Absolutely must have for ps5 users. Thought the resolution would be too low for my liking but the screen is fantastic. Only complaint is you must have good wifi 6 or better unless you're somewhat stationary while playing. I was having trouble when the wifi would switch access points on my mesh network.

I ordered this Playstation Portal about a month ago, and let me tell you. It was an absolute nightmare trying to figure out how to make this portal run without any lag. After a week, I finally figured it out. First, I upgraded my internet speed to 1gbps in order to achieve high internet connection. I then used a cat8 ethernet cable to plug my Playstation 5 into my modem, since cat8 is one of the most powerful ethernet cables out there. Then I bought a wifi extender to boost the wifi signal throughout the house so my Portal would pick up a strong connection from anywhere in the house. Finally, I unplug the Playstation 5's HDMI cable from the back of the TV so that it's not broadcasting a picture two screens (TV and Portal). Just one. After all of that, I am no longer experiencing any type of lag and the remote play function is amazing. I love my PS Portal.

I absolutely love the Playstation Portal! As someone who has been playing handheld games since their inception (yeah I'm old) this is as close to perfect as I've played without spending a fortune. If the Portal were a standalone device there is no doubt that it be even harder to acquire. One question I see frequently is do you need a PS5 (yes) or somebody returning it because they were unaware that this is just a streaming device and cannot play games without a $500 console. Sadly it is not the PSP (Playstation portable) gen 2 we have been wanting. Since it is just a streaming device there are limits. If you have spotty wifi, plan on taking it away from your PS5's network, and thats before the battery drain issues. If you go into the settings some of the battery issues can be alleviated by turning down some of the unneeded lights, sounds, or vibrations. I am really happy with mine after a month. It feels good, looks good, and am happy to finally snag one.

What does not being able to get this have to do with the product itself? If you wanted it you shoukd have preordered it weeks ago instead of leaving 1 star reviews crying that you couldnt get it on release day. Just ridiculous. The product works exactly as advertised and has been reviewed by dozens of reviewers online that talk about the pros and cons and what it can and cannot do like streaming and resolution. Grow up people, do some research and stop rolling the dice on release day. The Ps5 debacle didnt teach you people anything?

I absolutely love it you do have to get use to the screen but that’s okay it feels just like an controller for ps5 it’s easy to use and easy to understand
