Bought it last year and didn’t really use it much. But knew they would release an update to allow you to stream games without having the console on. So now I play it a lot more as a pick up and play when I have free time around the house. Works great with good WiFi. When the wifi isn’t great then it tends to lag or disconnect

The PlayStation Portal is a fantastic way to bring PS5 gaming off the TV. The 8-inch display is bright and sharp, controls feel familiar (DualSense-style triggers and sticks), and setup is painless — it really does feel like a handheld PS5. With the recent addition of cloud streaming, the Portal has become even more flexible: you can play games without needing your PS5 powered on or even in the same house (where cloud service is available), which is perfect for travel or when someone else is using the TV.
That said, some real-world limits remain. Cloud streaming means the Portal is now much more dependent on your network — on unreliable Wi-Fi or limited cellular hotspots you’ll notice lag, compression, or stuttering. Expect higher data usage (cloud play can chew through GBs fast), and a steady, low-latency connection is required for a great experience. Battery life still isn’t amazing during long sessions, and if you plan to use it away from Wi-Fi you’ll want to watch data caps. Also, headset/voice-chat support is more limited than a full PS5 setup — check compatibility for the headset you plan to use.

I wanted to be able to play my games detached from where my PS5 is located. Be able to watch TV with my wife while still work on finishing a game I had started. Now I can play in any room of the house, AND from other homes. A stable wifi connection and a couple minutes of patience while it "portals" in, and boom, I can play at a friend's or family's place too.
Cons: While it does what I wanted, I still think the device itself feels a little flimsy in some places, I bet it could go for 150 but it goes for 200. Cannot use it on road trips, a phone mobile hotspot or car 'wifi' is not a strong enough signal.
It definitely gives me more freedom, and some nostalgia comes feeling a bit like a PSP, but it does have limitations. I just caution managing expectations and enjoying for what it is.

I was planning to give 1 star for this product since the game just keep getting lag and stuttering even through my house is using 1g internet fiber. I read online and look through youtube just try to fix the lag but none of them is working. I was about to give up, but I found out that whenever I turn the TV that connect to PS5 the portal stop lagging and stuttering. This is for my case maybe it has to do with the HDMI cable, still I don't know why portal stopped stuttering when the TV is turn on. Therefore, what I did, I turn on TV for 24 hours a day and press Turn off Picture button. Now, I able to enjoy playstation portal wherever I go and play PS5 video game without getting lag or stuttering. If you high speed internet cable and PS5 connect directly to router or modern and still getting lag, you should try to turn on TV and see if the portal still getting lag. if it run smoothly when TV is turn on, maybe you should turn on TV and use off picture mode.

The PlayStation Portal is honestly pretty awesome if you want to play your PS5 without being glued to the TV. It feels just like holding a DualSense controller with a big, bright screen stuck in the middle — in a good way. The controls are legit, the haptics feel great, and it’s super comfy to use for a long time.
When your Wi-Fi is solid, the Portal works really well. Games look good, the connection feels smooth, and it’s perfect for chilling on the couch, in bed, or basically anywhere in the house. The catch? It only streams from your PS5. No apps, no cloud gaming, and you can’t even use normal Bluetooth headphones — you need PlayStation Link for wireless audio.

This wonderful piece of machinery has given me the chance to get my game on. As a grown man with responsibilites and children, those things come first. And i don't want to hog the tv by gaming, so i put it off and off and off and I never get to play on my PS5. Now I can easliy chill on the couch with my family while we all enjoy something on the big screen and I can disappear into a game-world of magic. A solid wifi connection and having the PS5 on a wired connection and rest mode helped to optimize performance. I love this thing.

When it connects to my ps5 it’s great but sometimes getting a connection is a pain. My home network is good and I am using the ps5 connection using Wi-Fi rather than wired connection, which I heard improves the connectivity. But yeah the cloud streaming is a game changer as long as you’re a ps plus platinum member. Solid to hold and use. The thumb sticks are a little higher than a standard dualsense controller so it takes some getting used to that, but overall a great product!

I bought a release PS Portal and tried hard to love it. Had connection issues, trigger issues, and sound problems. I sold it before the quality of life updates were implemented. I decided to give it another go this year and everything I struggled with previously has been remedied! Lately, I've been playing on this more than my OLED TV, and I'm glad I got it in black this time!

Overall, a really nice successor to a PSP. It is easy to grab on the go and play some PS5 games on trips. The online connectivity can be a pain sometimes, as it can be difficult to get to work on some hotel wifi. I mainly use it for non-competitive sports games and rpgs. Build quality is questionable. I had some horrible joystick drift that I had to do a lot of troubleshooting for. Eventually, I was able to fix it without replacing the joycon module, but I almost did. The gaps for the joysticks seem to be larger than on a dualsense allowing more dust/ crumbs in.

While i wasnon the fence about purchasing the Portal, I’ve found myself playing my PS5 more than ever before. Having a wife and kids who are often in control of the TV in the main living room, this allows me to use my PS5 while the wife and kids are watching a show, movies, or playing on another video game console. Highly recommended. I would only suggest to pick up over having it shipped when possible because the 3rd party delivery service used is awful.

Bought this as a gift for my husband, and it's worked out really well so far. It's comfortable to hold, easy to use, and the picture is phenomenal. It was simple to connect to the existing Playstation/account, and the way it can be used is really convenient. He loves the size of the screen, and the feel of the buttons. The volume on this thing gets LOUD, and I'm really impressed with the overall quality. The Portal is well designed, looks sleek and sophisticated, and was easily integrated into our current TV stand setup.

We bought the PlayStation Portal mainly so my son could keep playing his PS5 when he has sleepovers at his grandparents’ or friends’ houses. Mission accomplished he literally packs it like it’s another limb now. The fact that he can just pick up and play his saved games on the big TV at home the second he walks back in the door (no cloud saves or anything to mess with) is pure magic for him. Streaming quality has been rock-solid on our home Wi-Fi and even holds up pretty well on my parents’ decent-but-nothing-special internet. The screen looks fantastic, battery life easily gets him through an evening + morning of Fortnite and Roblox without needing a charge, and the built-in controller feels exactly like a real DualSense.

I love this thing i just wish it did more or was a standalone device however i am enjoying ff tactics on it right now but it mostly stays tucked away however for the price you paid it does what it says and does it well and its super comfortable to hold
