Sony - MHC-M20 High-Power Audio System - Black I’m going to get a lot of thumbs down on this review. But this is as honest as they come. Let’s start with the hype, “High-Power”. The amp is 35 watts per channel, in what way is that high power? This system is larger than it needs to be, it’s built to take up space. The receiver is about ¾ empty. Lets say that’s for cooling, but looking in the very small side vents (no vents on top) you see a nice power supply and a very small amp with 1 very small heatsink. No large caps or large heatsinks that would indicate a high power amp. High power amps require large heatsinks and large caps, Sony knows this. The speakers are large with a 1-½” tweeter and a 6-½” woofer. Each speaker box is ported with 2 ports. Sony claims the tweeter is 2” and the woofer is 8”, I’m not sure how they are measuring them. The woofer is extremely tight and has very little movement, this puts it in the class of a midrange driver, not a woofer. Sony claims the system goes down to 150Hz, this is just below the midrange area. To be clear, the system sounds ok, but just ok. It has a CD player that can rip music to a USB thumb drive. Odd feature but ok. It takes Bluetooth input and can do a party chain with other units. It has a (almost) karaoke system where you can reduce the main singer and sing along. It even has a MIC input so you can add your voice to the speakers. Why? Just reduce the main singer and sing along, no MIC cord to get in the way. This is a party gimmick and it is odd in the way it’s handled. As far as party gimmicks go the remote has buttons for lighting effects, but the unit has NO lighting effects. Any time you press a button that is not supported you get an error “NOT USE”. It took me a while to figure out that meant it is not used on this system. I really thought I just had the wrong input or something. It only has 1 aux input and that’s on the back. A set of RCA jacks for a TV or some other device. There is the USB port on the front and the MIC input on the front. There are several preset equalizer settings. They all sound like mud or something worse. Luckily there is also a custom setting that is easy to control and will get the best sound from the system. I am going to say NO to supporting this system. If I could return it I would. Now that I know I’ve upset some Sony fans, and I understand why, I like Sony, they make some great sounding equipment. This is not one of them. I will add this. This is basically a boom box “kitchen sink” system with some fancy social media junk added in. You can count your points? For what reason is beyond me. I honestly believe this was released in a hurry just to get something on the shelves to compete with cheaper systems. The system as a stereo does get loud, but without any thumping bass. I have a portable Sony Bluetooth speaker that’s ½ the size of this receiver alone and will cover this thing up in raw volume and bass. Sony does know how to build things. My bottom line on this is it’s made for pre-teens who want a big stereo in their rooms. Parents won’t go over budget and won’t be annoyed by thumping bass. It does get loud so parents will have to keep and ear out for that. The pre-teens will be able to have a good time with their friends and the odd functions that this system offers. The kids will have fun with it. If you’re over 15 or 16 stay away. Save your money a little longer and see some of the other offerings Sony has.

Good system, good sound and radio, I like the blue. But we bought it as an open box item, & it had no remote. Thought we could buy one online, but checked, including Amazon & Sony-no remote is available. And alot of the features-taking it out of demo mode (a must), sleep function (one of the main reasons we bought it) can only be done with the remote. So we returned it. And found another unit, new, and cheaper. With buying open box, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Very good item it sounds great the bass is also great the only bad thing no equalizer but other than that great.

It's excellent equipment, easy to use, good sound, perfect zise, is cery easy to handle, has all the main functions.

My old CD player broke. I purchased this one, it works great! I'm happy to listen to my CDs again. My kids (11 and 9) love it too. It's sad that Cds are becoming a thing of the past and Bestbuy is no longer selling Cds.

This stereo has worked for what it is needed for, however, the app used to connect speakers wirelessly could use a little help as well as the instruction manual. I wish I didn't have to replace my old sony stereo as it had a 5 disc changer and this does not.

This unit was bigger than what I wanted but that was all available in store during my visit. I could have gone on line to find one smaller but I am a visual person and wanted to actually see what I was purchasing. It is working ok and the sound is good.

CD player quit working. Purchased this unit to replace current system. Sounds great. Radio reception is iffy. We live in a valley so we're limited to which stations can be received.

This is an Awesome Addition to any ones Studio. you can record MP3 off of the Computer and play it on the Sony, also you can take the vocals out of cd and radio along with the USB drive. it has Mic Jacks for Singing Karaoke and using as a PA system.

bought it for my college kid to have inhis dorm room. sound is impressive for its size. not audiophile quality, but more than i expected. plus he can run his computer through it

small compact stereo fits our needs perfectly. Hard to find stereo's with CD players and I'm not about to throw away my collection

This is a great system for a medium sized area, gives out lots of base and love the blue tooth feature
