Great addition to the PlayStation family as long as you have fast internet. As long as you keep your expectations real you will enjoy this product. It’s not revolutionary, but, it’s great for those times when you want to play and somone wants to watch TV. Main drawback is lack of audio choices since there’s no Bluetooth. Also I wish it could turn your PlayStation on and off. You have to keep your PlayStation 5 in rest mode to be able to start a remote session. There is very little lag as long as you have a strong WiFi signal and screen resolution is nice even though it’s not 4K.

This is such a good gadget now, with the cloud gaming available, it could be a stand alone console with this feature, you no longer require a ps5 console to play. I love it it is a really good Christmas present!!!

I’ve been using it a lot. When my tv is busy beating watched by other family members I can play the massive library of games I have built on my pan account. A must have for any ps5 owner.

Love the versatility of the Portal. I find myself playing my PS5 through it more often than I would just playing the PS5 normally. It’s perfect for my job too since I travel a lot. It comes with me wherever I go.

Excellent ergonomics inspired by the DualSense controller, smooth and beautiful image quality if the connection is good, and the freedom to play your PS5 games remotely.

PlayStation made several updates on this device making it an absolute great device to play remotely or stream trough the cloud. With cloud getting better and better, I think PlayStation actually nailed it with this device. Streaming on the portal feels good without a doubt.

I was on the fence about this one since you can’t play without WiFi and can only play whatever disc that is in the PS5. I’m old school and I like having the physical disc as opposed to buying digital cause you cant sell a digital game like you can the disc version. I opened the box and was blown away at how beautiful and how big the screen is. The controls fit perfectly in your hands unlike the switch. The battery life is really good. The graphics are amazing and I didn’t really see any lag while playing as llong as you have a good WiFi connection. The $200 price is not that bad for what you’re getting. I definitely recommend buying a case for it. The portal controls take over your PS5. I know video games are going towards all digital in the future so my physical games are gonna be obsolete some day so now that I have the Portal it has changed my mind and Im going to start buying digital games because this thing is so awesome. With all that being said I definitely recommend getting one, you wont be disappointed!

I keep going back to it thinking it’s worth it…it’s not. Don’t buy it. In reality if you can have a 5G hotspot at any given time then buy it. Let’s be real though, no average day to day person has that option. They’re running off 2.4G WiFi and maybe an okay 5G connection. But overall, not worth it. PlayStation is trying to make it the “modern PSP” by having cloud gaming on it but you have to have their most expensive subscription to play the cloud games. Oh, and the cloud games are what they deem suitable to be on there for now. You can still connect to your PlayStation 5…if it’s in Rest Mode. If not or you forget to put it in rest mode, well, it’s cloud games or nothing. It won’t turn on your PlayStation from being “off”. So overall it’s more of one of those weird, odd, collectible gaming items to make fun of later on. Lastly: - Not an OLED screen or even LED - 1080p resolution IF you’re lucky - Usually always runs below 1080p when on a different WiFi or connection point that what the console itself is on. - Battery life sucks - Joysticks are the definition of sensitive to the touch…as in they feel loose and fragile. They are super sensitive to movement - Photo provided is it running at 1080p but don’t let it fool you. There is a ton of lag time. The resolution was only maxed out because the PlayStation was in the same room and the PlayStation and the portal were the only two items on the WiFi. (PS5 was on 5G and the portable was on 2.4G)

    My honest opinion

This is my own review as a normal consumer. From the moment this was announced, I had no interest in it. I already own a Ps Vita and love it, but I wanted to be able to play my PlayStation anywhere, anytime. I couldn’t get to stream it on my Vita so the portal begun to make more sense to me and my needs. After watching so many reviews, good and bad, I decided to pre order it but ended up cancelling it. They release it and more reviews came in, a good mix of it, everyone was worry about using cellular and how good would it be not being close enough of the console. I decided to still get one but it was too late, it was sold out everywhere and scalpers were re selling for $500 bucks so I waited it out using HotStock and managed to get one off BB, and my first impression was, “wow this feels good”, plus the screen is amazing. It feels like a portal PlayStation, especially with the dual sense triggers, and feedback. Connection wise was a bit weird at first but I managed to connect to my 5G internet, and made sure my PlayStation was connected to the same network, also tried LAN and works but it kept getting disconnected for some reason, possibly my Ethernet cable is bad but I decided to go back to WiFi and once I connected both to the same network, I haven’t had any issues. I also learn to unplug the hdmi off my monitor and made my experience so much better. I have also tried using my hotspot on my phone, it works just the same, it starts a little slower but it smooths up as it goes on. It also depends how fast of a hotspot you have and if your phone isn’t downloading anything. I stopped playing multiplayer games so I have no experience on it aside playing Cold War zombies which works great. I mainly play the show 23, and single players. I recommend this to anyone interested in playing their PlayStation anywhere, anyplace, AS LONG you have a decent connection. That’s my honest opinion. I wouldn’t give up on a scalper but if you’re truly desperate to get one, I still wouldn’t. Sony will bring more in stock, just gotta keep waiting it out. Scalpers already losing money, they’re dropping prices down to $250.

    PS Portal 6 months review

After a few month of using the ps portal, I can honestly recommend the device for anyone that wants to play games on a handheld but not use the primary TV for example if your partner wants to watch something while you want to game. This is the device for you. The latency is good depending on internet connection, I would recommend using wired connection to the PS5 to lower any lag/latency as the ps portal will be using your home WiFi network to connect and addition to all the other devices connected to the same network. There will be times when the connection to the PS5 does not look as clear depending on connection speed and the type of game you are playing. I would not recommend this device for fast pace multiplayer games as the latency can be too much. However for playing other single player games, this device it’s excellent. One cons against the portal will be that you cannot connect your Bluetooth earbuds or headphones since it’s not supported unless you buy Sony approve link earbuds or headphones which is not great given that most of us have Bluetooth headphones/ earbuds. At least it has a wired option for audio besides the ok speakers. The ps portal has an 8inch LCD screen (wish it was OLED but I know the price would have been higher) which is the perfect size while the feel of the controller is the same as a PS5 controller with all the vibration features.
