I can only compare this to the Samsung u4k player which is also decent but this Sony player has great picture, great playback, no skipping like some units have on upconversion from dvd quality to u4k quality. I'm not in anyway an expert but I'm happy with the player though I did have to figure in the cost of a geek squad warranty because Best Buy has such a short period where they support what they sell without a repair/maintenance contract. Still the lowest price I found though, even with the contract included.

I recently bought the Samsung KS8000 TV and someone recommended to me that I buy a 4k Blu-Ray player to truly take advantage of the 4K HDR features. I did a lot of research and was stuck between this player and the Samsung equivalent. The Samsung was on sale and was almost $80 cheaper than the Sony UBP-X800. However, after speaking with Best Buy reps and watching many YouTube comparisons, I decided to bite and go for the Sony model. I definitely do NOT regret my purchase! The quality is superb! I've watched many 4k Blu-rays from movies like Logan, Suicide Squad, to even Planet Earth 2 (a must-buy for 4k Blu-ray player owners!). The colors and clarity are so good that I cannot help but recommend this product to my friends. I saw the Samsung in live action and while the colors were very vibrant, the Samsung model lacked in many areas like performance and features. Now, I'm giving it 4 stars as opposed to 5 because there is a weird issue I've had with this player for some time now. Basically, sometimes the Sony player will just stop being responsive to anything you press, including the power button (remote or directly on the player itself)! This can be very frustrating and either you wait for 5-10 minutes for it to bring itself together, or you just unplug it (NOT recommended unless absolutely necessary). I've seen others report on the same issue. I believe this issue occurs if you try pressing too many buttons too quickly, especially when it's already in the process of loading up a specific menu. Regardless, the performance of the player is still very snappy in the menus and selection screens; unlike the Samsung model. At the end of the day, regardless of the weird issue, this player is absolutely worth it! Highly recommend if you own a 4k tv with HDR!

Easily installed and programmed. Remote is user friendly. Picture quality is superb. All at a very affordable price. Great choice!!

This player replaced my Blyray and SACD players all in one. Video quality is excellent and CD quality is also. I read reviews about load time etc., and I have not seen any issues with that. All works well and as it should with excellent build quality, you won't be disappointed with this player.

Finally able to play my 4K discs. The picture looks great. Not a lot of apps available on it, but everything looks good. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes I want to see where I am in the playing time of the movie. When I put on the display, I see a lot of other information that interferes with watching the movie. Otherwise, a fine a machine

Sony has made a good quality 4K player that operates with ease. It feels solid, not like those cheap lightweight DVD players.

Very basic and easy set-up, almost plug and play. I haven't played a 4k yet, but the picture quality is good with blublu-ray.

The reason for the 4 stars is because I’m only had they player for a month. This player is great so far, its very quite and plays movies very well, and they sound and look great in 4K.

Upgraded to Samsung 4K Ultra TV, 4K Ultra Blue Ray DVD player, and 4K Ultra HDMI cables. Bought a 4K Ultra Blue Ray DVD to compare - resolution is very good, but I really couldn’t see much difference with the old Sony BR player and the new TV. The Samsung 4K Ultra TV is AMAZING! Got a Netflix upgrade for about about a 1.00 more per month to 4K Ultra - totally great (Netflix auto recognized the 4K TV and a message popped up on the TV asking if I wanted to upgrade to 4K Ultra). p. s. Added Amazon Prime too (I know, about time) - and have the 4K Ultra movies/shows with that too- Awesome! Highly recommend upgrading your TV and streaming services!

Had my 4k tv for 2 years, and this is the first 4k device I have had for it. Picture is great. Love that it upscaled to 4k.

I had one of the first Sony bluray players to come out on the market. It served me well until I accidentally loaded 2 discs into and it was destroyed. So I upgraded to a 4K player by Sony. This is a great budget 4K player that has everything you would want. Plus I hear there is a firmware updated coming to support Dobly Vision which Samsung players do not support! With the latest codecs including atmos its a no brainer. Pick this player up and experience 4k like it was meant to be seen!

So far this player is great. Easy to set up and my 4K movies look and sound great on it when patched through my receiver.

Set up was very easy and the upgrading from 1080P Blu Ray Disks to $K was very clear and sharp with minimal artifacting.

Firstly, this is the only 4k device in my system. The directions for non 4K setup are lousy, didn't work and/or were way to complicated for use with a non 4k system. I should have knocked off a star for that reason but...after some in store helpful advice from the Bestbuy salesman, I was eventually able to get the system to work well using a digital audio coaxial cable to carry the sound and by connecting the hdmi cables just like it was actually all 4k. Now my Yamaha AVR works with all of its audio output modes including Pro Logic, pcm and other theater sound fields. Setting it up any other way like the directions called for either limited the sound fields to straight or pcm or there was no picture on the tv and voices were sometimes out of sync. Now I can even listen to a cd using the dvd and the music is clear and crisp in any sound field I choose or I can bypass those and listen in pure direct mode. The picture quality is superb in blu-ray and even really good for HD streaming video. The interface for setup is easy to use.

Nice player. Easy to install. Playback is clear. Downfall is it's size. It's larger than a laptop and takes up a lot of room. Internal fan runs all the time even when turned off.

Great player for the money and very well built! I would recommend the x800 for anyone looking to get into the UHD world.

I purchased a Sony 4K 75” TV and this BluRay player was part of the deal. It plays great and compliments the TV well.

Great picture quality when connected to a 4k TV. Streaming connection was easily set up. Great player for the price!

Overall love the player. However there are a few settings that took a while to get set right so we had the picture we expected. After changing the default settings we were able to have the player play all out dvds and blue rays correctly on the wide screen format. We’re the factory settings only played them in the 4:3 square setting. Minor problem and now love how fast content loads and the clarity of the picture regardless of the program format ie svd nlueray of 4K ultra.
