The first thing I noticed about this player is the weight, which I like. I wasn't too much of a fan of the little dinky players when they came out a couple years ago. This one I can actually press the eject button without pushing the player around. Yes, it stays in place. This is my first 4K player. I did purchase a 4K movie to see its capabilities. I'm also using a Sony 4K TV. I did not have any issues with play back. The remote has a nice layout. I like the fact that there is a button for Netflix. Saves a little time, not having to return back to the home screen to find the APP. The TV's remote (also Sony) controls the player as well. I haven't found any issues there so far. Streaming 4K over WiFi works very nice. Yes it can be hardwired, if you like.
Now the BUT ( fixable Just read on ) .....Out of the box There seems to be an intermittent issue with not being able to eject the disk. One way to fix the problem was to do a hard start. Unplug the unit wait 30 seconds then plug it back in. This has happened twice with in the two weeks of me owning it. Yes we watch LOTS of movies. You WILL have to update the firmware to fix this. I haven't had any problems since.
This is a $299.99 Player. It was a$100 off. So well worth the $199.99 price tag.
Would I buy it again? Yes! Sony is my go to choice for TVs and (old days VCRs) DVD players and Blu-Ray players.

This player is just incredible. 4K discs play the same quality, but the Sony player is much quieter and quicker to load than the Samsung 4K player.
When upscaling, though, Sony blows everyone one in the price range away. Only player that uoscales better is the Oppo, which is 2-3 times the price.
Also, with the Samsung player and my Sony Bravia x900, there was dropped signal. Video and audio would cut out. That all stopped when I switched to the Sony player.

I recently bought multiple 4K LED TVs to replace ones damaged by a lightning strike. We also had other damaged home theater components and replace BluRay players with "upscaling 4K" models. We filnally decided to buy this 4K Sony play for our best system. It's the real deal. It's our only machine that actually plays 4K dvd's. What a difference from upscaling our old BluRays. That much cleaner action, color, everything. WIll buy another one soon.

The player rocks. I have been watching ALL 4K players a while waiting for the manufactures to work out the bugs. Early editions where buggy and the goods ones were very expensive. This is the first one I found that just works, plays hi-res audio and doesn’t break the bank. Caught it on sale for 200.00 plus a 50.00 cert made this one of my best purchases for the theater room yet. The x1000 only offers analog outputs if that is important.

Excellent picture on our 4K TV. Blue Ray DVDs look great, but standard DVD images are not upgraded significantly. Easy set up and remote is easy to use.

This is my first experience with 4K and it took me a long time to believe that it could possibly be that much different from HD. I am no longer a doubter after pairing this player with my Sony 4K TV. The player has been performing flawlessly, has many options to customize to your liking, and upscales my old standard DVDs unbelievably well.

Great player & construction but lacks Dolby Vision

A rock solid tank of a 4K blu-Ray player with great performance. However it has begun to start showing its age, feature-wise, which comes quick in the tech world. While it will play HDR titles, it lacks Dolby Vision. The x700 has DV as well as a front USB port to gain, but then you lose the heavy solid construction this player offers with the “downgrade”. (Solid players tend to have less hardware problems and vibration from the spinning disc) Another problem that really irked me was the lack of anything past DD 5.1 on Upgraded Netflix titles. It will simply not allow Atmos to work on streaming services. Not a big deal, and maybe fixable with a software update(?), especially with ability to get Atmos titles via Netflix on the newer cable boxes and 4K TVs.
There is also no display on this player, which is good and bad. Nice to see where you on on Title, Chapter, and Time, but then again another display not being there to draw your eyes away from the screen might be a great thing.
If the lack of Atmos on Netflix (it works beautifully on Blu Rays, don’t get me wrong) and lack of DV bothers you, wait til the next player in the 800 series. If not go for this one while it’s still available.

Sound quality in cd sacd very good. Was originally told by several employees that this didn’t play sacd but it does.
Second I bought this to play 4K and discs and also because I wanted to use this Netflix, pandora, and dvd/cd to be all in one place to be easier on remote control.
Specifically I wanted to use with harmony hub/remote and Alexa. So was pleased that I was able to use this player for all internet and dvd content. Making it simpler to hand other family members just one remote to control everything. And use this device as main content media device.
Things I don’t like.
I am not happy with the industry as a whole doing away with analog inputs. I really want 5.1 rca outs. This thing has zero analog.
Also I am unhappy with no app for amazon music.
Not enough apps and not enough connections.
But no player on the market at any price has everything I want/need. So this player does90%
Also of note 2x player glitches out screeches the speakers and then shut down.

Very Good 4k Blu Ray Player

Overall my experience with this BD player has been positive. As expected, 4k Blu Rays look great. But regular BDs and DVDs also have really strong picture quality. Picture quality through streaming services also looks really good. I would recommend getting a higher quality HDMI cable that can handle 4k. I was initially using a cheap cable and I was experiencing picture issues when streaming (lagging and the picture fading to black randomly during a show or movie). But after upgrading the cable, everything works fine. The only slight downside is that there are only about 10-15 apps installed on the player, and it does not appear that you can download any others. The standard apps are there (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Youtube, etc). But if you are looking for other more obscure apps, you may be out of luck. Everything I use was already installed, so it is not really an issue for me.

Player works great. Impressive built quality, doesn't feel cheap like other players. 4Ks looked good, blurays looked great upconverted. Have a few gripes regarding it though. Sony should of really included dolby vision support with the player. If they did, this would be THE player to get....aside from super pricey Oppo players. Also I thought it made my SD DVDs look really bad. I have a samsung bluray outputting to my 4k TV and the SD DVDs look fine. This applied too much DNR I.M.O. For the $150 price it is still a good deal.

This is a good new 4k deck from Sony. They tend to run a little more than the comparable Samsung ones, but this one is worth it. It produces a good picture and sound. The streaming works fine with things like Netflix and Amazon. One thing to note, read the instructions. It tells you to make your connections before connecting the power. It does not work correctly unless you follow those instructions.

Once I got my new 4k TV I knew I had to make the jump to a 4k player. So far everything has worked as planned. Upscaling older blu rays works very well, not as much on DVD, but that was pretty much expected as DVD are just not able to be viewed on a 65” tv the way you would hope., the DVD movies just look pixelated and are a bit hard to watch, but all of the older blu rays look fairly nice, but obviously not as clean as newer ones..
4k movies haven’t been entirely too impressive yet, but I’m still in the comparison mode with different versions of movies bouncing between blu Ray and 4k. But, blu rays played on this unit, are slightly better looking than the same discs played on an older Sony player. I’m told the HDMI cable that runs this unit, might need an upgrade, that will be the next part of this test.

4k hdr movies look incredible! Easy to operate user interface. I love the build quality as it's definitely heavier than the Samsung model. I owned and returned the samsung model due to its slow responding interface and it would jump and skip through the movie. Same movie ran perfect on the sony. Only issue resulting in 4 stars instead of 5 is that it won't connect to our WiFi. It's very possible the problem is our low bandwidth. We live in the country so internet is always a problem.

Recently purchased the Sony UBP-X800 DVD player and connected to a Sony XBR 75" TV. While the 4K Blue-ray DVDs look exceptional, the Sony DVD player does a fantastic job on improving the video quality on a non-4K DVD. If you are looking for a 4K player, you cannot go wrong in picking a market leader - even better if you can get it at a significant lower sale price

Picked this up replace an older upscaling blu ray player I had that didn't play well with my new 4K TV. Picture quality is great. 4K blu rays look better than they do when played on my XBox and the upscaling is much better. Even when playing a DVD. No more fuzziness around things that are moving on the screen. Definitely a good buy and for the price you can't lose.

I have a Sony TV and this synced wonderfully with tv right out the box. Easy to setup and perform initial software update. Wifi is easy to setup. Upscales blu-ray dvds to 4k which looks awesome and so is sound. Purchased for $149 around black friday which was a great deal for 4k blu-ray player that actually plays 4k and upscales. Apps are plenty and work well.
