Posted .Hi JMR1988, we're genuinely sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced with the Sony - UBP-X700/M. We understand how frustrating it must be dealing with the player freezing, and now displaying a black screen when attempting to play Blu-Rays. This is definitely not the experience we want you to have, here are some troubleshooting steps that can resolve these problems:
1- Power cycle the player, this helps clearing any temporary glitch that may be affecting the unit. You can unplug it from the power for 2 minutes and then plug it back in
2- Make sure the player has the latest software version, while you are on the home screen you can go to the top right hand corner and click on setup > software update > update via internet
3- Perform a Factory Data Reset, this last step will return the unit to factory settings erasing everything including errors or bugs that are affecting the player. While in setup go to resetting > reset to factory default settings > all settings > start > close. After this, turn off your player for 1 minute and then turn it on.
