Good blue ray player 4k movies looking great sharp looking

Monitor is a Samsung Q80 2019 This player pushes the resolution to 3480 x 2160, Watching older movies on Prime Video is a remarkable upgrade. Both Sherlock Holmes Dressed to Kill and Miracal on 34th Street show greater resolution. Audio output via HDM2 to a my Yamaha Rx-a830 provides excellent 5.1 / 7.1 audio fidelity. Very pleased!!

Plays regular blu ray like 4K. "Top Gun" looks great.

Very good but misses the mark when It comes to HDR support and sound support. The player has very limited sound support unlike the Panasonic 4K blu ray player 820 unit.

I would not buy this. Skips all the time while trying to play 4K discs. Maybe I got unlucky, but I believe this is a known issue. I thought I had bad discs for awhile until I realized every one of them was skipping and freezing. Do not recommend.

I purchased new and connected to a new A90J using HDMI 2.1 cables, and for every 4K disc, I have played locks up! This includes brand new discs and old ones. I even cleaned each disc just in case but no luck. It seems like a memory issue and occurs about an hour into each disc. You can stop playback and return, and it looks fine, but I have also noticed chapter selection will not work in many cases, and the "Resume" feature often is not working? I purchased this unit thinking my A90J remote would control this player, but it doesn't, so you have to use the weak non-lit Sony remote. It does have better Bluetooth sound output when connected to a Sony headset, but I can do the same thing using my A90J work. I am only using this unit to play 4K discs and do not need it for streaming. I do all streaming through the A90J. I am not sure what options are left, but I wanted a dedicated player instead of a gaming console to get better picture quality.

Not a good player. Kept having iusses with it not wanting to power on and the none auto switch for dv sucks

I replaced an older Sony with this. The 4K movies have frozen up some times but I haven’t had trouble since the first couple and those were new also. I ran a laser cleaner disc and haven’t had any issues since. It’s more expensive than the last model and the picture is the same.

This player messes meta data causes too much trouble when using an external processor handling dynamic tone mapping.

I purchased this unit in September of 2023. On Feb. 2024 this unit did EXACTLY what the old one did. It STOPPED working. It will not read any discs or display the home screen. I have to unplug it to shut it off. SAD SONY.

No point getting it if you have a ps5 or xbox series x

Downgrade from MK1.. Streaming is extreamly limited and Home media server connectivity is not yet working like Mk1. dissapointed in sony...

The Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player is pretty amazing and is easily set up in less than 10 minutes. Less than 2 minutes if all of the settings are set to AUTO. There are 2 HDMI inputs. Sony kept things simple by blocking HDMI 2, to prevent mistakes. Just one of many "nice touches" on this unit. My primary 4k bluray is by OPPO, which arguably is the industry standard, and I tested 2 flix, JUMANJI and The Avengers INFINITY WAR. My tv is a SONY A8F. I say this not to brag but hopefully this will give some credence to this overview. OK. On full daylight scenes no desernable difference at all. Beautiful crisp picture with zero artifacting. But the real test is on darker scenes. That's where we separate the wheat from the chaff. I was incredibly pleased with the Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player. The detail in the darker areas was spectacular. Amazing detail and no fuzziness. Did it compare to my thousand dollar OPPO? YES IT DID. The loading time was a tad faster as a matter of fact. There was zero jitter, and even on pause the picture was outstanding. From DTS to Dolby Vision this unit did not disappoint. There are 2 things I wish SONY would consider. 1- An illuminated remote 2- More than 3 streaming options and the means to add more would be nice. A final nice touch by SONY were the 2 4k bluray films that they included. There is no front display and that's fine by me. Who can read those teeny tiny numbers from across the room anyway. If you have a 4k rig at home the Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player is the perfect addition. Cheers y'all.

I had A Sony 1080p Blu-ray player and upgraded to this and about the same picture. Perhaps it’s my upscaling epson 4K projector but not a huge difference in picture quality.

I bought this in 2022 and I regret it completely. It is faulty and crashes about halfway through while I'm playing any longer movie or older movie with lots of film grain.

Wont respond to remote. Used it probably about 30 days in the nine months. A Sony failure. No more.
