If you've seen the anime you will hate this movie and if you haven't seen the anime you still wouldn't enjoy the movie

Unfortunately, I expected too much for this movie. At this time, this make believe "Star trek" has far too go to be able to reach across the Pacific to be accepted by a wider audience. It reminds you of older poor overacting movies that we would have thought would be in the past. Not so much the movie plot or the setting, which were not that bad, but the acting was stiff and not believable.

Disappointing but still a nice memory of the 80s

I buy a lot of blurays, so I can't afford to do full price. Maybe once or twice a year, when I must have it right now. This was sadly one of those times. And maybe that's why it sucked a little. It was my favorite anime from the 80s, so I wanted it too much. The big problem is that they forgot who the star is in Starblazers. The ship, Yamato. And the wavegun. You don't watch Star Wars without expecting some Millenium Falcon. With Firefly you expect some Serenity action. Here it was the opposite of the mistake made with Star Trek The Motion Picture. OK, enough of the Enterprise and the space shots. Even disliked movies like Green Lantern can still give you some appreciation for the special effects. But here...maybe there were budget issues? It was still nice to see a live action version of a great 80s anime, but just nice - that's all.

I was surprised to see this movie. I had watched the anime in both the original Japanese and also in the American versions. I was surprised to see a live action version and not disappointed in any way by its production. If you loved the original, this is a must see.

The original Yamato was the first real anime I ever watched so it holds a special place in my Anime collection. This version is well done and worth watching, especially if you are a fan of the genre.....

Worth adding to your DVD collection. The dubbing and effects are pretty good.
