Checked their website, they’ve done this to accommodate mag safe accesories, I only use mag safe for charging, protecting the camera lenses is too important to me. I liked the look & feel of the case but returned it.

It protects well just like you would expect from a Speck product. The only issues I would have is that it gets marked up from fingerprints easily and also collects lint from your pocket. Both are easy to rectify with cleaning though.
