Not Compatible for MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar

I recently bought a MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar for college and thought getting a case/shell for it would be a good investment. Since I was leaning towards Speck cases for this purpose, and since my local Best Buy didn't have any in stock, I found this case on their website on sale. I thought I had stumbled across a bargain, and seeing as my computer was a "15" Apple® MacBook® Pro with Retina display" I figured it would be the perfect fit. (This may be where some confusion occurred, since the 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has a Retina display, yet the product did not specify the model(s) in question. This could be due to this product being slightly out-of-date, but the stickers attached to the package say otherwise. Keep reading for more information on this subject matter.) It was literally not the perfect fit. Once it arrived in the mail, I was eager to snap this case/shell on and try it out. After I had removed it from its busted up packaging and dusted and cleaned off the flecks of filth and finger smudges, I found out that this Speck case was actually too big for my MacBook. One thing you don't get to see when purchasing an item online is the box it arrives in. This box had conveniently placed stickers on both the front and back of the package. The sticker on the front read "ONLY FITS MacBook Pro 15 with Retina display (June 2012-May 2015 models)" while the sticker on the back, a 15" MacBook Case Fit Guide which listed the models of MacBooks the Speck Shell Case would be compatible with, clearly listed the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar & TouchID as one of the models with which the case/shell would work. I've included pictures of the conflicting stickers as well as the case/shell's size compared to my computer’s. Note that the portion of the case tested is the bottom half of the case/shell with the computer on top to display the difference in sizes. I'm posting this review solely warning those with 15" MacBook Pros (with Touch Bar) that this case/shell will not fit your computer. I cannot speak for the durability, usefulness, or credentials of this product because I have not used it. Please take this into consideration when assessing my given "Overall Rating" shown by the amount of stars above, as well as my answer to the "I would recommend this to a friend" portion of the review. I bought myself the 15" MacBook Pro for Christmas, and while I have a zippered neoprene sleeve to protect it, I decided to buy a hard shell as well. For the most part, this Speck case has high reviews, BUT I did notice some rather negative ones mixed in. The only reason I went ahead and purchased this was because it was on sale for $19.99 as opposed to $49.99, plus I had a $5 Reward certificate, and a small balance on a gift card. In total, I paid about $9. And let me tell you, that's all this case is worth! I cannot believe people would pay $50 for such a flimsy piece of plastic. But if you carry your Mac around like a status symbol, I suppose the name "Speck" in the lower left corner elevates your status further. Installation is easy. Just snap the two pieces onto the bottom and the lid, and that's it. The packaging however seems to be sturdier than the product itself! Granted, no one wants to buy something that is overly bulky for a product that is known for its sleek design, but I just cannot get over the fact that this normally goes for $50! I've had the case for about a month, and so far, no edges have broken off, the corners haven't chipped, etc. BUT, I have only been using it lightly around the house, not lugging it around class to class as a student. Buyer beware. Don't spend the $50, and you won't be too upset when it breaks.

I will start by saying I've owned 3 17" Speck cases in the past. They were always more expensive, but fit well and lasted a long time. This made the price tolerable. I can not say same for this 15" MBP case. First, the price is quite crazy given the alternatives available, but I decided to purchase it anyways based on the past reliability of my others and the fact that they're now in stock in the stores more often than not. The main problem is that it simply doesn't fit well. If you put the bottom rear corners on first, at least one of them pops off the case when you seat the front bottom case corners. Now matter how many times you repeat this process, the bottom case will simply not seat all the way. This could be a bad batch, and the corner isn't broken, just won't stay put. For the price, that's not acceptable. To make matters worse, their support takes 2-3 days to reply, which in this day isn't acceptable. OVer all, I would pass on this item and go for cheaper, better fitting alternatives.

I previously owned a 17" MBP and had a Speck cover for it for the 6+ years I owned it. The cover didn't really show signs of wear until the last year or so, but even then it was minimal. So when I decided to replace my MBP with a smaller, newer version, I didn't hesitate to buy another Speck cover...after all I had taken the previous one to work regularly and even to several different countries around the world with no issues. It fit my new MBP just fine and other than having a slippery feel to it, I didn't have much to complain about. Well, here I sit after owning my current case for less than 3 months and I just noticed one of the foot covers is missing. Other than going from home to work and back again, this has seen minimal use compared to my previous case. I checked on another well known site and this is apparently a known issue - man I wish I would have checked the reviews first. Do yourself a favor and pass on this case. Speck is not what they used to be and don't deserve your cash.

I have been using Mac laptops for several years now and I always purchase a case for them because I do not want to scuff, scratch, or otherwise damage the case. I like the satin Speck cases given the variety of colors available, plus the stain finish that makes it easy to carry (not slippery). The reason I rated the case four instead of five stars is because it is easy for debris to eventually work its way in between the case itself and the laptop. Even fresh out of the box, it can be difficult to clean the interior of the case before putting it on the laptop due to a static charge that seems to build up when trying to wipe it down. Overall, this is a somewhat minor inconvenience, though. I have tried other cases and experienced heartbreak as feet/pads fell off, making the laptop wobble when typing. I have never experienced such an issue with a Speck case (and I have owned quite a few of them). I would recommend against paying full price for the case ($50'ish) as Speck and Best Buy routinely seem to offer sales on the cases anywhere from 20 to 30% off.

It's tough to get a product built and into the market, so I hope this negative review will help Speck get it right re. their shell casing. I have had 3 cases, one purchased and 2 replacements. The grips that hold the base of my Macbook into the bottom piece of the casing break off after minimal use, then the bottom casing won't stay on. 3 times... I give the product 2 stars instead of zero because I did drop my computer on the corner that was protected by the top piece only, after the 3rd bottom had failed, and the shell saved it from damage. However, lost time and logistics could also have been saved by a product that held up in the first place.

I bought this case because not only was it on sale for $20 but I had read the great reviews. Although, I have only had this case for almost 2 weeks and the corners of the case are some how cracked and breaking. My laptop lives on my desk and on very little occasion I will bring it with me to class so I was shocked when I saw the damage. With that said, I feel that the material isn't either hard or sustainable enough. When I went to remove the case it was also a little complicated. I was scared that I was going to damage my laptop from trying so hard to remove the case. I will be returning this item.

For a snap on shell it covers as much as practical

The differences between snap on cases is small, usually how well they do or do not cover the back corners and hinge area. The Speck case covers as much as you can without hindering port access or hinge function. Speck only lists Onyx Black on their website but was able to purchase the "matte" Black at my Local Best Buy. It has a little more grip to it than the glossy Onxy Black model, however still not as much as the "Rubberized" finish of the 3+ yr old Speck Case it's replacing. For the protection it offers while still allowing my MBP to slip easily in and out of any soft sleeve or back pack, it's money well spent.

Overall I feel better having my macbook in this case. It will prevent scratches, but after the second attempt to clip it on (laptop needed a new logic board thus forcing me to remove the cover) a corner snapped off. Seems to be par for the course amongst owners of these things. The plastic degrades over time, but for me, it seemed like I had to force it to fit properly and got unlucky with the piece snapping off. It's small enough though and in the backside so I'll just ignore it. Like I said, this will prevent scratches and I like the subdued look of the Mac within the case, but other than that, don't expect much protection of any other kind.

The only thing worse than Speck's cases is their customer service. I tried to get a warranty repair on my case, that started cracking in the corners after 2 weeks of use; and they pretty much ignored my emails to try to get the issue resolved. I was contacted once asking for my receipt (which, working for Geek Squad, I always remember to keep) and I never got anything from them after that, even after multiple emails. I would never buy another one of their products and I will never recommend them to any of my clients.

Speck Shell Case for 15” MacBook Pro w/Retina display; black onyx case. The Speck Shell Case fits my 15” MacBook Pro like a glove. There is virtually no movement inside the case so there no friction or scraping against the computer. The Speck case protects the computer from exterior scrapes and scratches that might accumulate from every day handling and moving the MacBook around on a table or desk. The fit is so good that it is difficult to take the case off without breaking it! This happened to me. The sales person at Best Buy said it is not meant to be removed, but he did give me a replacement. The case is somewhat over priced.

This item was on sale because it fits the earlier 2016 Apple MacBook Pro but not the current model. The black color allows my Mac to go places incognito until I do a startup and the lighted apple on the lid shows through just enough not to annoy users of lesser computers. The Speck Shell fits the computer tightly, almost like a second skin. I anticipate that the computer will be well protected from scratches, but I suspect the shell would break/crack if I dropped the computer or hit it hard against a solid surface. The nonslip surface provides me with a reassuring grip.

Let me just start by saying I am very gentle with my computer AND I don't even use it daily. When I bought this case I was just looking for extra protection. So much for that, this case cracked off in the bottom corners a little after two weeks!! When I went to return at Best Buy in far under 30 days, I was told I have to send it back to Speck... This is really disappointing and a hassle. Would not recommend

They are just good for looking, technically what kind of protection are you expecting from this plastic? My laptop fell less than 2 feet from coffee table to my rug, a thick rug, and not only did this product broke in 2 pieces, but because of it my screen got damaged. I complained to them and they said they can replace the case for no extra cost, but who needs a flimsy protection when they are not protecting the product? Terrible product, terrible experience, never again speck!!!

I bought one of these cases when I first bought my MacBook Pro almost two years ago. The case took a drop onto concrete from waist height; the side cracked, but the computer was perfectly fine. The case went on to survive being tossed around in my backpack and protecting my laptop from several other bumps and bangs for another year and a half before needing to be replaced. Not the toughest case but it has definitely saved my laptop on more than one occasion. Definitely worth the money.

It didn't arrive on schedule but it was ok. It was just a day late anyway. I wasn't so happy with the packaging. Not what I expected to be, but not too bad either. The covers were a bit dirty (dusty) but I was able to easily clean by wiping it off with a clean cloth. Assembly was a breeze. Just push them until you hear or feel a click signaling that they're 'locked into the MacBook' and that's it. They're not loose nor too tight. Just perfect. I got it on sale too so I can't complain anymore. :)

It's not a horrible case, it does do its basic job. I had a bit of difficulty getting it on at first, you really need to do it just right, not like the older cases they made. There wasn't much of a selection either, and it doesn't give it the greatest protection, but for something just to keep it from getting scratched or very minor bumps then the case is perfect. I would recommend getting some type of sleeve for the computer as well if you plan on bringing bringing it in a bag of any kind.

This is my second Speck Case for my MBP, first one lasted almost 4 years of in and out of a back pack pretty much daily. Fit is great as protected as any basic snap on cover out there unless yo go with something that will ad a noticeable amount of bulk and weight to your laptop. Just wish they still offered the original Satin (matte) finish like my old one. This one is not as slippery as the gloss but not as grippy as the old satin finish.

Instead of purchasing a MacBook Air shell case, I accidentally purchased the pro shell case. When I received this item, I took it out the box, tried it on my laptop and realized it was the wrong size, so I immediately put it back in the box. When I tried to return it in the store, they didn't want to accept it back because they said it had scratches and it had been used. How could I have possibly used it, if it didn't even fit my laptop?!

this is a nice hard shell plastic case with a transluscent black matte finish. it snaps on to a 15" macbook pro nice and tight and protects from scratches and dings while still allowing access to ports. rubber feet keep it in place while working at a desk. seems durable without being overkill. makes my mac look much more discreet and stealthy too for what it's worth. get it, unless you need something more burly, in which case i would go for the UAG case.
