I have the Sphero BB-8 as well and this R2 is much easier to control. The other benefit is that while the sounds for BB-8 only come through the phone/app, R2 actually makes the sounds in the droid itself.

Fun to drive, looks great, and movement is authentic and entertaining to watch. The only issue is that the treads pick up particles and hair, even on freshly vacuumed surfaces. If the hair is long enough, it can get wrapped around the gears, so be careful not to drive around too long without cleaning out the treads.

It's a good toy, but it's a little expensive for what it is, and i would not recommend using it in carpet

This isn't just a toy, it's an experience. Simple to install once you download the app. Hours of fun. The battery lasts a long time and recharges with micro USB.

We purchased this R2 for our grand kids and they are totally amazed by how you control the R2 with just a wave of your wrist/hand my grand kids have all the robots and they interact with each other how funny and enjoyable to watch them with a smile on their face

My whole family have been Star Wars fans since the original movie and this was a must gift for one family member. Everyone has gotten a kick out of it. You would swear R2D2 is in the room with you. Noise and movement exact and true to character.

This was a gift for my nephew and he absolutely loved it. Just like his uncle he is a huge Star Wars fan! I got a great deal on it along with a free wrist band controller. Is definitely a great gift and collectible for any Star Wars fan.

This was a surprise gift for my Star Wars fan.....he downloaded the app and had this thing running all over the house....it even ran on the carpet. Great gift for my "big kid"

App stops working whenever, device it is installed on is turned off, and must be uninstalled reinstalled to sink R2 again. Very limited movement, slow, wear and tear on drive belts and skid pad very high, dust and dirt build up on drive belt mechanism extreme. Further more there is no easy way to perform preventive maintenance, battery replacement. There doesn't seem to be any way to order replacement parts. Vary low ground clearance less than 3mm. the BB series is much better to play with, run around and explore because of its closed drive mechanism. R2 is definitely not a toy to be played with but is more a animatrionc statue to be out on a self or small desplay area. Sounds and movements are total authenic. Very nice detaling over all 3 out of 5. I hope that replacement parts, or after market High performance parts will soon be on the market. Brushless moters, ESC, ATR trackes, High-impact nylon gears.A ball bearing roller for third leg would greatly improve R2s Mobility.

works great with the app, makes sounds and movements just like from the movie. its a MUST buy if your a true fan of the series.

Absolutely love this item. Works as advertised and very fun to play with. I was surprised that the center leg did not have a wheel, just a smooth surface to "roll" on. Also love the fact that R2 has an internal speaker to hear the sounds so you are not dependent on your phone to provide the sounds. Makes R2 more "authentic." And now, Sphero has created educational software so I can now use it in my class for the students to program it's actions. Now, I need to add to my collection with the other 3 Sphero items.

All the movements and sounds of the R2D2 movie are the same. Easy to play with plus I got it for a great price.

Movements, actions, sounds are all very realistic. If you have a Star Wars fan in your life, this is a perfect gift.

Young kids like this product. He's quirky and looks great. But older kids (about age 8 & up) quickly lose interest. He has no speed or movement flexibility whatsoever. Can still be coded via the app just but he's just too sluggish to make it worth the effort. I got it for a terrific price so I really have no complaints in terms of quality or use by kids learning to manipulate using a touch screen. However I really wouldn't recommend for kids who are tech savvy or have experience with the other "educational" Sphero's such as the Sprk.

I’m a 35 year old woman and I think this toy is awesome. I love that it has sound effects coming directly from the toy itself. It’s fun to show off to little cousins and to torment the cat haha

Sphero did it again with another fun and "realistic" star wars toy - great for any fan. R2D2 saves the day again as always.

Ok...my favorite Star Wars character is R2-D2 so it was no surprise that I wanted to own this astromech droid. When it went on sale and included the force band as part of the deal, I immediately went to purchase him. I still have to learn to control him and learn more features so I could do more but he is so cute, I love him!

I didn't realize Sphero came out with more droids, I bought this for my husband, he already has BB-8. I can't wait to see his reaction on Christmas when he opens it!
