This game is great fun in classic Nintendo style and great for all ages. Even my 2 year old just likes to watch and cheer (win or lose). There is a full single player game with stages, but the meat of the game is the online multiplayer. It is a team based game with colorful graphics and great controls without any blood / gore. They are always adding new content (weapons, levels, special events) to keep it fresh! This is one that will last a long time!

This is probably one of the most fun, original games in a while. Playing 4v4 matches online with friends or strangers alike is tons of fun and it definitely has that "one more match" feel. The weapon variety is good and the in game elements are quirky and well done. I haven't even tried the single player mode yet, but understand it is well done too. Definitely pick this up if you're looking for good, fast-paced online fun that isn't the same tired FPS.

Splatoon now with all of the free DLC Nintendo has released has turned into quite the amazing package and online community. It really is extremely fun and cute while also being an very competitive 3rd person shooter game. There are a variety of styles of weapons to choose from and also tons of choices of outfits with different stat perks. I'm unashamed that my favorite part of this game is making my squid kid the freshest she can possibly be.

To call this game a simple shooter would be a disservice. It is a shooter but it's a fun fresh take on it. Great gameplay with lots of options to customize your play style.
Not great with aiming? There are plenty of items and weapons to make sure everyone is accommodated. The giant roller is quite a powerful tool.
If you're use to other, more traditional shooters then the controls may take a little bit of time to get use to but they work well.

I remember learning about this game during one of Nintendo's Nintendo Direct videos and thinking it looked strange/childish, yet it appealed to me on a certain level. There is something satisfying about covering as much surface area as possible with ink. The different "weapons" are very interesting, and each is fun in its own way. I personally prefer the ink roller. Catchy music, graphics, and gameplay make this game hard to put down.

I was on the fence for this game, and decided to make the jump. Extremely glad I did. The core game play of shooting ink and traveling through it to cover ground and take out enemies is insanely rewarding. Right now, there isn't much in terms of online game modes (Turf War and Splat Zones as of 6/8/2015), but Nintendo has been great with a consistent stream of free updates so things "stay fresh"!
If you have a Wii U, buy this game!

Great Fun, But Is Seriously Lacking In Content

Splatoon is the most fun I've had playing a video game in a long time. It's full of chaos and ink-filled fights and is simply put, a unique experience much different than other third-person shooters I've played recently. Plus, there's plenty of 3D platforming for fans of the genre. However, the single-player campaign, although features sweet, classic boss battles, is very forgettable. Now, the multiplayer is where the game shines the brightest, but playing on the same five maps, yes there's only five (for now), just gets irritating and old quickly. Plus, there's the extreme lack of game modes too...

Let's not kid ourselves, Nintendo likes to pretend that no one has ever done online multiplayer for more than 8 users simultaneously. It's aggravating, as well as the fact that NOW they don't want to do 4 player local gaming?
That said, this game is a blast. My wife is not your typical gamer, and she's logged more time on this game than me. Great fun all the way around.
Looking for the Amiibos? May the Force be with you.

Nintendo has created a fantastic new IP with Splatoon. It's bright and colorful design is a much needed reprieve from all the dull colors of most games available now. The short 3 minute matches are perfect for someone who can't devote a ton of time to a game and just wants to jump in and play for a few minutes. It does get a little dull with only two maps in rotation at one time, but it's not a deal breaker. I'll be interested to see how the game develops as Nintendo adds the free DLC over the summer. It's already a very fun game as it stands now, so I'd imagine it can only get better!

Bought this one because the kids were demanding it. I like it because it's a friendly way to splatter brains without the undead or blood and gore. There's enough variation that you need to employ different tactics dynamically in order to keep winning. It's just the Wii U platform itself that's proving to be the restricting factor. If in the future they can add 3DS players into the same arena that would rate 6 stars.

Splatoon is a game that defies all the odds. It's a competitive multiplayer game on a Nintendo console. The matches are only a few minutes long. It's basically about shooting the ground. How Nintendo crafted such a great game that's true to their style and works for their console, I'll never know. Everyone should play this game.

I recently bought this game for my boyfriend, and we have had a great time playing it together. It has fun local multiplayer, but besides the main storyline, the online multiplayer is a huge aspect of the game. You get to customize your character's look with gear and weapons and progressively unlock more and more the more you play online. I definitely recommend it! It's fun both with friends and solo!

Graphics and sound/music are bright and fun. There's many types of weapons but the only thing that changes are the "sets" of weapons and sub weapons. Like a rapid fire weapon paired with bombs and a shield or a sniper gun with disruptor bombs and a commanded missile strike. There was only a small handful of arenas to be randomly placed in and the available choices are swapped in and out every few real life hours. And there were only 1 battle mode to play with. Really limited to say the least, thankfully now there's many more arenas and a much more serious "ranked mode" that keeps a record of your losses> Also there's finally a "friend only" mode where you get to play with people you know and even a way to play with friends against random strangers. A much needed feature. Single player mode is simple but rewarding for those who complete it and the amiibo only challenges are rehashes of single player missions but with different weapons to use. Although the costume and weapon rewards it gives are more than worth it. I preordered the amiibos months earlier so I missed out on nothing~ Also I'm glad there's no voice chat, I'm so tired of dealing with 13 year olds who think that being "adult" means using profanity every 3 seconds and I never want to converse with elitists who believe winning in something as ridiculous as a video game defines a person. They take this way too seriously. This game is perfect for young children. You can't go wrong here.

This is a wonderfully imaginative game. At its most basic level, it's a first person shooter. However, Nintendo rebooted this genre to create a colorful strategic ink blasting game that's challenging for adults and also fun for kids. This game proves that you don't need blood and gore (or profane voice chat with foul-mouthed teens) to make an entertaining shooter. Way to go, Nintendo!

A fantastic alternative in both style and approach to modern online FPS titles. With a focus on covering territory as opposed to killing your opponents, it provides gameplay goals that are different enough to warrant a look, while the style and attitude is keep you coming back match after match. At only 3 minutes a round, it can be played in short bursts, whether its a couple quickies before work or a Friday night marathon.
With new maps and weapons constantly being added (and available for free) there is much incentive to get your ink on.
