Great multiplayer game. Great single player game. Game is constantly updated with new maps, weapons, gear, and ways to play. Haven't had this much fun with a game in a long time. A must have for all Wii U owners. And if you don't own a Wii U, this game and others make the Wii U worth every penny. Totally underrated system. You won't be disappointed !

So much fun!! They're still pushing out updates, levels, guns, etc! It's super addicting, and I can't stop playing. I love that everything is about inking the stage in turf war. It's not all about destroying each other, but that does help. The colors are magnificent, the guns are inventive, and the squid form is fantastic. Must play for wii u players!

Splatoon has a nice campaign, reminds me alot of Super Mario Galaxy in terms of gameplay mechanics. Beating the bosses in campaign unlocks weapons blueprints. The online multiplayer is incredibly addictive. Using different weapons and gear greatly changes how you play. Nintendo is releasing free add on content through the summer of 2015. Great fun!

Finally a new IP from Nintendo that I can really like. The graphics are great by Wii U standards, the controls are good, and the gameplay modes are great. I can't wait for DLC for this game, and have to admit that it is now on my list as the best game I have ever played. I think it gets a raw deal on the reviews and easily deserves an A rating.

A break from the norm, Splatoon takes everything we love about videogames and breaks it down for a simple, yet satisfying experience. First of all, it is refreshing to see a game where you don't have to kill or maim your opponent to win! Splatoon offers good, clean (ok messy haha) fun for all ages. Not to say that this game doesn't go deep for even the most dedicated players. The atmosphere and feel of this game is what really puts Splatoon above the rest. Few games have as much personality and style especially when a game is the first in a series. I look forward to the continuing updates and free content that Nintendo plans on steadily releasing, which will keep me coming back for more. Some gamers might feel there isn't enough content for the price but rest assured, rather than making you purchase a season pass for an additional cost, Splatoon's price of admission includes any and all additions that will come. I also want to mention how the GamePad is put to full use in this game. Great control, off screen support, excellent motion aiming and the one on one local mode allows one player to use the TV and the other is on the GamePad. I love having my own screen! Enjoy!

Colorful take on the online shooter = Fun

Splatoon is a new kind of shooter, full of colors being splattered everywhere online as you work together with a team against another. The focus of the multiplayer is to cover the map with your color the most, a concept so simple enough anyone can play - even those who'd never played a shooter before.
There's also a single player story mode to keep you busy in between this mostly online focused game, so it's a good pick up - especially with it getting updates every week.

This game is unlike any other I have played. This game has you using different weapons and clothing options to try and cover more of the level in your team's colored ink than the other team. Broken up into 3 minute rounds, the gameplay is fast paced and has you always racing the clock. It doesn't get old. Also, the single player campaign is a blast and has one of the toughest final boss fights I've experienced in quite a while. A must buy for any Wii U owner.

Splatoon is a game that does something a little differently than most shooters, and I feel like the risk was worth it. I was at first skeptical of the game as I did not know how much longevity or fun I would have with it, but I have played for 60 hours already and I'm still having a lot of fun.
Even painting the ground and walls feels satisfying, and the matches are hectic and fast paced. The game appeals to many different people and is addicting.
No game is perfect however, and Splatoon occasionally suffers from intermittent network issues (about 1 in every 10 matches have some sort of lag or hiccups) and not a vast amount of content right now. There has already been a few updates, and the paintbrush weapon quickly became one of my favorites.
About me: 23yo male, primarily play PC titles. Favorite shooters: Planetside 2, Quake 3, Killing Floor, Renegade X

I had never played a competitive third-person shooter before, but I'm having a blast! The gameplay is very addictive. New content like weapons, stages, and modes is being added regularly. The visuals are very refreshing. There is a great degree of customization. Most fun I've had with an online game in a while!

This game has greatly exceeded my expectations. I have sunk a gigantic amount of time into the incredibly addicting online play. The game is extremely fun to play with intuitive controls and incredibly vibrant graphics. There is a lot of weapon variety and a constant stream of new content to keep you playing.

This is a must buy game if you own a wii u. It may even be a console seller. This game is fun. This is one of those rare games where single player and multiplayer are both awesome. Game is just beautiful and they are constantly giving us free updates with weapons and maps. Dont hesitate buy this game now.

A Truly Unique Take on the 3PS

Splatoon is very fun because it puts a refreshing spin on the third-person shooter game. I have played games like Gears of War, the Mass Effect series (including the multiplayer in 3), and, a while ago, Perfect Dark. What makes Splatoon stand out from games like these is its multiplayer Turf War mode. Rather than prioritizing kill/death ratios, this mode asks the teams to cover as much of the ground in their colored ink as they can, and the winner is the team with the most ink on the map. This mode means that even someone who is not very good at gaining kills can slip behind enemies to avoid combat while still contributing. Indeed, while I try to go for kills when I can, the MVPs are rarely the players with the most kills. If you want a mode that has more emphasis on combat, the Ranked battles offer modes where that skillset is more valuable. I am still playing this game, and with free content updates (including maps and guns) having come in since launch, it looks like Nintendo will support this game as long as you're willing to play.

Family-Friendly Competitive Shooter

Nintendo has a knack for creating games that are immediately enjoyable and Splatoon is no exception. Splatoon is, at its core, a competitive shooter with strong mobility and platforming components.
The goal of the single-player campaign is to fight back against an invading octopus menace. Nintendo's strong roots in platforming and the associated level design bring in a strong variety not found in most shooters.
Multiplayer, on the other hand, is team-based 4v4 competition (at least so far, since Nintendo will be adding more modes, maps, and weapons for free through the end of August!) with the twist being that your goal isn't to defeat the opposing team members the most, but to cover as much of the map with your team's color of ink! So far, the multiplayer seems very balanced (and very enjoyable), so I have high hopes for the coming months!
I recommend this to fans of competitive shooters (fresh and kid-friendly aesthetic included) as well as folks who just love the quality fun that Nintendo puts into each (...most?) of their games. :)

The most fun I have had with a video game in a long time. Easy to pick up, but enough challenge to master new strategies. Nintendo managed to even get me to play online mode against strangers, which is something I normally don't do with games. Definitely belongs in everyone's game collection.

I didn't know I would enjoy this game this much! I bought it for my niece and then I ended up playing it all week long!! Nintendo has since given it many more free content updates. It is extremely charming, fun and competitive but easy enough for a kid to have fun with too. My neice loves it too!

Very fun game from Nintendo. It didn't have a lot of maps at launch but there have already been a handful of maps added since launch, and Nintendo says more are coming.
If you want a more casual shooter like experience, don't hesitate.

I was skeptical when my 12-year-old was pushing for this on behalf of all three kids (the other two are younger). I have been pleasantly surprised. You can play against someone in your house (requires pro controller), solo against the octo-alien enemy, or online with 3 others against another team of 4. There are different online games with different objectives. Every few days or sometimes less there is some new update, so it has not become old for them all summer. So you get the benefits of a first person shooter game with the added benefit of shooting paint, covering surfaces with paint, and turning into a squid to stealthily hide, quickly move through and even up vertical surfaces, and recharge your gun/special weapon. I went with my son after Christmas to trade in a game he received for Xbox 360 and could not find more than a couple of games that was not too mature. Splatoon will be a staple for Nintendo and continues to set them apart as the family friendly gaming console maker.

NINTEDO this is what happens when you get creative. This is a fun shooter game that is a breath of fresh air with all the Call of Duty and Battlefield games out. The amount of content added after release makes this game a fantastic value. 4 stars when it came out but a 5 star now.

Splatoon is a fast-paced third person shooter with a ton of charm, tight controls and highly engaging combat. Control options are great, whether you prefer the precision of the motion controls (almost mouse accurate aiming!) or the familiarity of sticks. Single Player features a host of levels with interesting designs that are designed to have you teach yourself the various uses for your movement options, and featuring some truly clever boss fights. Online Multiplayer is fantastic, hardly laggy, and always easy to find stranger or friends to jump in with. There's a lot of weapon and item variety to be found, and there are lots of ways to use your kid and squid forms to get around the map and get over on your opponents, making combat fast and interesting.

the game is different and very fun from other shooters. Anyone can play and enjoy themselves.
I still recommend this game but it does stink it came with only 5 maps on release day. Nintendo released a 6th map three days after and will be rolling out more (maps/weapons/gametypes) throughout the summer.
My gf and I have probably played about 25 hours so far and we wish there were more maps.
