I don't usually like shooters. I'm terrible at aiming, and I generally just don't play them well at all. However, Splatoon is different. It's a third-person shooter with a twist. Instead of trying to get the most kills, the object is to cover the most ground with your team's ink. This means that I don't need fantastic aiming skills. I only need to focus on shooting the ground. Now, that's just me. I prefer to play defensively. The game has a multitude of different weapons. each coming with their own sub and special weapons that tailor to all sorts of different playstyles. On top of that, you have different headgear, shirts, and shoes that each come with their own abilities. I find it fun to try out different combinations of gear and see which abilities work the best together. If you're a fan of shooters, or even if you're not and you're just looking for a fun game to play online, then give Splatoon a try!

This is a great and fun game and a welcome non-Mario game from Nintendo. Fun online ink turf wars, which are 4 vrs 4. A good variety of ink weapons. The inkings amiibos are great too and give you some challenges within the game too. A must for anyone that owns a wiiU

If COD was more innovative then it would eventually end up something like splatoon. It not only takes advantage of all of wii u's features, but adds awesome platformering into this team based shooter. Splatoon is definitely all about the multiplayer despite having single player. Servers are constantly active and nintendo always keeps it fresh with updates and events.

A shooter that anyone can play, but with more depth than a mere kid's pool. Single player is good, but doesn't reach its full potential. Online play is the star of the show, with more and more free content being added throughout the summer (2015). Excellent game.

This game is all about fun game play, and it radically changes the common tropes of almost every shooter released in the last five years. My two complaint are that the squid sisters are really annoying and their should be a away to totally their conversations entirely. Secondly, the default controls SUCK, change it immediately to non motion controls and they're great.

Splatoon makes for an amazing online game, likely the most engaging online experience Nintendo has ever made. The multiplayer, regardless of its lack of voice chat or randomized parties, is sublime, successfully making a shooter that is easy to hop into but tough to master. The single-player might be short and linear, but it’s a wonderful change of pace from the frenzy of online play. Splatoon also represents a change of pace on a grand scale for Nintendo. This isn’t something the company normally does and reinforces the notion that maybe they should keep on trying to make new games and worlds and stop remaking old ones. Hopefully, the game is a success, and they’ll see this new direction pay off.

Splatoon captured my attention from the moment I saw it. The game is a fun variation on the shooter genre, platforming, team-based multiplayer, and paintball. While the single-player campaign is rather short, each of the levels are inventive and feature Super Mario Galaxy levels of creativity. I definitely recommend playing through it, as it will also warm you up for the online community. Online, the game really shines. Sure, there aren't too many options, modes, levels, or choices to make (just yet, at least), but the game is fun enough to forgive some of those shortcomings. Once your character hits Level 4, you'll be able to purchase new weapons, clothing, and accessories to truly customize your ideal playing style. Nintendo has promised more content to come to Splatoon for the great price of FREE, so hopefully, it comes out regularly enough to keep the community going.

Although you won't find a sprawling story or dozens of checklist achievements here, you won't be found wanting if you're a fan of sharp, fast gameplay with a quirky twist. Instead of blasting your opponents, your primary objective is to paint the town red (or blue, or orange, or green) -- literally. The team with the most color covering the environment wins. It's great fun, and surprisingly doesn't get old, thanks to a robust movement and shooting system which allows you to swim through your own paint at speed and get the jump on the other team. Different weapons play very differently from one another, so you're bound to find something that fits your playstyle or mood. Community events and ranked battles, in addition to clothing you can purchase with your winnings, adds structure around the splatting. Overall a great title for fans of pure arcade shooters.

Don't worry if you've never played a shooter before, Splatoon is a game where even inexperienced players can contribute. It's full of a wide variety of weapons to try out, and a fair number of stages. The weapons are not just guns but also things like paint rollers, buckets, brushes, and more. The controls may take some getting used to, but they feel fine once you do. The online play is all team-based and is separated between regular Turf War and Ranked, the latter of which cycles between three different modes. In Turf, whoever has covered the arena with the most paint is the winner, so you don't necessarily need to be good at combat to help your team. In Ranked however, the modes have a more specific objective, and the competition can get rather fierce. If you're not looking for online competition, the game doesn't have much to offer for offline single player. While there is a level-based single player mode, it can be completed in just a few hours. It does offer a few creative ideas and bosses though, so it's fun while it lasts. Overall, it's a fun and unique game that anyone with a Wii U should check out.

A fun "shooting" game with no blood and violence. Love the maps, graphics and colors! picked it up really easy, just wish there was a 2 or more player (in the same room) option. It also gives great hints during the game. definitely a keeper!

Great shooter for the Wii U

For a multi-player shooter this game is very good. Since it is on the Wii U which is lacking in online shooters its excellent. Matchmaking is quick, although a lot of the time the names are not in English. Games are fast paced and controls are great once you become accustomed to them. I like to turn the motion controls off (which you can do after the tutorial). The game released with a limited amount of maps which becomes evident after a while, but so far the last few weeks a few additional maps, weapons, and modes have been added as free DLC. Early games you can't customize the character much, but after a few levels the additional weapons and gear add a lot. My only grip is that you can't change the loadout (weapons and gear) in between matches. You are stuck playing the mini-game on the gamepad. So if I want to change weapons you have to exit the match and restart. By not allowing this you can't adapt to the other players in your game in between rounds. If you played Call of Duty or Halo this will be really irritating. Other than the one gripe on the loadouts Splatoon is a blast and the best shooter for the Wii U. If they fix the loadout in between matches and continue the DLC then this is will become a 5 star must have.

This game is fun for all ages. The graphics are gorgeous in a cartoony style. The game is really meant to be played online. It excels in that regard. However, only one person per Wii U can play online at a time. It's a slight hassle to switch between two people who want to play online. If your console isn't connected to the Internet. I wouldn't purchase this game. There is some decent off-line content for individual and two players, but not enough to justify the price. You need the web access to fully appreciate the game. This game is not compatible with the traditional wii controller. You'll need the Wii u gamepad or the Wii u pro controller.

Splatoon is all about putting ink on the ground to claim territory. Very simple, but very engaging. Even if you are low leveled, you can still contribute to your team's score. So if matchmaking constantly puts you with players at a much higher level than you (as it often does for me), it's not too overwhelming. There is a single-player campaign that allows you to get familiar with the controls and mechanics. Unfortunately, it can be completed (secrets and all) in a few hours. The main draw of the game is the turf wars, but the platforming was fun and I wished they included more levels. Online community is strong, though, so there really isn't a problem finding a match. It receives regular updates to keep things fresh and to keep the community active. Large set of weapon loadouts with variety so you can find a style that suits you and visually appealing maps. Fantastic first entry to what will definitely be a ongoing franchise.

This game is lots of fun, me and my daughter play a lot the only issue I have with the game is it doesn't support a split screen on TV you have to use the wii u pad for one player and TV for the other. Other than that we've had lots of fun.

This is a whole new way to play third person shooter game compare to other games such as Halo and Destiny since you are splashing ink against the enemy. Great to play online against other players or great to play single player story mode.

    Best Multiplayer Game in Years

This is easily one of the best multiplayer games I've played in years. Pros: - Fun every match (rarely ever frustrating). - Great balance between weapons leading to diverse loadouts every match. - Fast paced matches leads to more playtime due to being able to get a quick match in here and there. - Gameplay mechanics that work exceptionally well and never break. This leads to a consistent experience that takes a minute to learn and months to master. Cons - Music can become a bit too abrasive over long play sessions. - There has been a surprising amount of players that leave the match and they are never substituted. This leads to an almost guaranteed loss to that team. Beyond those minor issues this game is well worth your money and has found a place on my shelf for the foreseeable future.

This game is stunningly creative. Formed around an urban, graffiti-packed theme, every element of the gameplay, artwork, and music crashes together into a loud, colorful, and incredibly entertaining burst of bite-sized fun. Competitive matches move quickly, most lasting no longer than 3 minutes, which may seem like a short amount of time. However, those 3 minutes are packed to the brim with easily-understood but difficult-to-master techniques, strategies, and explosions of color. Players have lots of vantage points to explore, and being able to turn into a squid to traverse levels quickly via rivers of paint is simply glorious. I never would have thought that being a squid could be so much fun. Heartily recommended for anyone who enjoys energetic shooters or team-based action.
