Great shooter for the family, is incredible how much fun you can get shooting ink at the stage and your foes. It is the kind of game that you enjoy regardless of the results.
The Solo campaign is very enjoyable, but so far the best part are matches with friends online.
I know lacks voice communication but I believe Nintendo plan this to prevent exposing children to cursing and bullying so if you are a parent that cares about this you will feel safe knowing your kids are not exposed (at least not while gaming online) I still believe voice chat should have been enabled for private matches where you know all the people who is gaming with you.
Anyways don't let that prevent you to enjoy this game, I find difficult to find other game that gives you so many laughs and great moments!

Leave it to Nintendo to take what many would think as predictable genre and turn it on its head. For those who are tired of the status quo shooters (whether third person or FPS varieties), Splatoon will be a breath of fresh air--a game where aspects of teamwork merge with a colorful art style to create an engrossing experience. Your characters in this game are squid-like people, and the purpose of the game is to use your ink/paint to color as much of the board as possible before time runs out. Meanwhile, the other team tries to do the same. Battles can be quite frantic, especially as the teams come together, and the maps all have variation and verticality to them that makes for interesting encounters. While the game was initially lacking content at its release, Nintendo has continued to expand the game in the months since (for free, which is incredibly great), and today, it's definitely worth owning if you bit on a Wii U. I highly recommend it, not only for the fun factor, but also to support Nintendo's creativity in taking a genre many feel was/is going stale and doing something truly different.

Great game to play, controls great, looks great, sounds great. The online rounds last long enough where you feel like you've played a good round, while short enough where you think you can keep on playing for one more round.

I was hesitant about purchasing this game, as the premise seems very simple for the price. However, I was pleasantly surprised by engaging gameplay and entertainment that it provides.
The key part of this game though is the ability to use the online play. If you do not have access to your modem/router, I would not recommend buying. Weapon upgrades and the best parts of gameplay require an internet connection and being able to mess with your modem/router settings if they are not initially configured correctly. The online play is amazing though, and there are world wide events that go on to keep things interesting, as well as new items being added frequently!
Note that there is a non-online mode, but I did not find this as engaging as the online portions.

Nintendo has done something neat with this. While it isn't a first person shooter, it takes a lot of the skills and strategy that a gamer would need for such.
What makes FPS violent? It's not the gameplay per say, but the story and environment that makes the gameplay unsavory to some.
This game is family friendly, but still has some great gameplay. No one dies, but it's just two teams playing a sport. It's fun, it's innovative and it handles well. I'd like to see more like this from other developers. Blood doesn't need to be splattered. In this game, the only splatter is from your ink blaster.

Great game for kids. All the shooting fun without the violence. I do wish you could play it on the game pad without the need for a TV. That is my only complaint. Even bought her an amiibo to go with it. She love it.

Super fun! People may have been salty on the fact that it didn't have enough content at launch but new updates keep on coming with more game modes, weapons, all free! The game keeps itself fresh and fun as it goes.

I bought this game day one and it's one of the best recent purchases I've made. This game is just so much fun and visually vibrant. I hope that Splatoon is highly successful so that Nintendo is encouraged to create more new and creative IPs. My only negative to this game is with the local co-op as the Battle Dojo isn't quite as fun as Turf War. I know some gamers might be turned off by the lack voice chat but because I don't ever use this kind of functionality I wasn't bothered by it. Besides people can be so negative online so I understand the decision not to support voice chat. Anyway this game is great. It is fast paced, colorful, creative, and most importantly loads of fun. :):):)

The overall game mechanics are simple–making it fun to pickup and play for pretty much anyone (my 5 and 8 year old kids can be pretty formidable opponents).
Single player mode is fun, but we primarily play two-player local matches and online matches in our household.
The only thing lacking in this game is four-player split screen. It would be nice if the whole family could play together at once, but matches are quick, and no one has to wait too long with the existing local setup.
There's still a decent online community, so you shouldn't have any issues finding matches.
Verdict: Buy it. You can't really go wrong with this game.

This game is always described as a shooter, and yes, you do shoot, but strategy and platforming skills are equally important, and the combination of these elements is what makes this game so special. It definitely has that unmistakable Nintendo feel, that level of quality, that flawless polish, and an underlying focus on pure, exciting, fun gameplay. Matches are found quickly, and I've yet to experience any server troubles. The outfits and equipment provide more depth than I expected, and will definitely keep you coming back each day to see what new options are for sale, trying different combinations until you find the perfect one to suit your play style. Get ready to become addicted and have a lot of fun in the process.

Nintendo delivers their own style of 3rd person shooter. Instead of cover mechanics they introduce the ability to camouflage or hide in pools of ink. Fun single player and boss fights and great multuplayer.

Splatoon is one the best games for the Nintendo Wii U. Single player mode is plenty fun. Splatoon is best played online with multi-player 4 on 4 Turf War. Its a must have video game for the Nintendo Wii U.

Amiibo nonsense aside, both the single and multi player experiences in Splatoon make this worth the purchase. The plan is that free content will be distributed over the summer, and considering they are working with such a solid core experience, I am really hoping that Nintendo doesn't mess this up.

Game is alot of fun for someone who plays online or by themselves. The game has plenty of content and is fun to play which is great for the WiiU. However the minor issue which would extend this to 5 stars is extending the same game-modes from single player like TurfWars to a 4 player split screen.

Full disclosure: I work a lot and don't have time to get into major games like Skyrim or Fallout. I don't have the most patience for learning large worlds and building up characters over a long period of time. I like games that I can quickly pick up and play without having to learn all of the intricacies of strategy and control.
That being said I picked up Splatoon at launch and had a lot of fun with it at the beginning. Each 3 minute round was a lot of fun, even though it seems like the last minute is all that matters. I didn't care too much for the main lobby and there isn't really a single player mode I had a lot of fun using the same weapon and going at it again and again for 3 minutes at a time. Then I sold the game.
I figured at the time that it was online-only and that the game wouldn't have much lasting value. Especially if the online server were to ever be shut down in the future. Plus Nintendo's waning support for the console was cause for concern. Yet for some reason I kept wanting to periodically pick it up for a quick round. So yes, I went out and rebought the game. I realized at that point that Nintendo games don't really go on sale, but you do get the value out of them in the long run. Even though the game is a bit pricey and repetitive it has proven its worth to me as a great way to blow off some steam and have fun.
As for the game itself the controls are good, mechanics are well thought out, and the match-making is really good. I haven't experienced any issues with cheating or goofy camera angles or anything else that would deter one from playing the game. It is a well-polished, kind of goofy third person shooter that is suitable for kids and fun for adults as well. Definitely pick it up when you get a chance.

Keeping the WiiU relevant against the clear front runners of Microsoft and Sony is tough, but Nintendo seems to pull it off with unique and fun to play games like Splatoon. Hard core gamers will call this another kids game, but the bottom line is its easy to pick up and fun to play. Much like Captain Toad and Wario games, and pikmin, these games are fun and deep. I'd rather solve puzzles and use my brain then play a mindless shooter that are all starting to look the same. I may stand in the minority seeing that sales show Nintendo way behind the competition, but they at least try unique things and constantly innovate. The Amiibo craze is a great example and again is used in Splatoon. I have all the game systems, but I constantly find myself playing Nintendo games over the other systems. If Nintendo could just harness their power over other systems like they have done with their handhelds they would be the clear front runners in the video game market. I think unique games like Splatoon help get them there!
