    Another great game from Nintendo

Although the Wii U may not be selling well, the games it has sure are some of the best this generation. Splatoon is one of those great titles that, in my opinion, is one reason to purchase a system. Nintendo titles are known for their polish, attention to detail, and easy handling. Splatoon hits those marks and then some. With online play and a single player campaign, as well as Amiibo challenges and ranked battle, there are many hours of fun to be had. And new, free maps and content are being added throughout the summer to keep the game feeling fresh. The only question you should ask yourself is are you a kid, or a squid?

My 7 and 9 year old love this game and can play it for hours. You play online against others so it's always a challenge. Very appropriate for kids and nothing to worry about.

Splatoon is the best shooter that the WiiU has! Now that's not saying much as the system doesn't have many of the A+ titles, but it's addicting and simple yet challenging enough that you will never get bored. The objective is simple, cover as much of the area with your colored paint before time runs out to win! Win to unlock XP and coins that are used to upgrade your character. Great for kids as it's very colorful and looks like a paint fight AND also great for adults because there's no 14 year olds talking about your mom like COD. The only gripe is that only one person can play on a time and you need an internet connection to play since it is online only. Other than that, BUY THIS GAME!

If you come into this with the right mindset, expecting 6 Maps, 2 online game modes and 10 hours of single player, this is a fantastic game. It only gets better from here!

Shooting in Splatoon is actually really smooth. If you're like me and dislike the motion controls, you can easily change it in the options. As for the single player, it's surprisingly a refreshing experience except for the fact that it's mostly too easy and too short. It's still fun though and I hear that the final boss is really amazing. I'll be looking forward to that soon. Overall, the only two real disappointments I can really say is they need to tweak some of the multiplayer aspects like at least making an option for a friends-only room and allowing for weapon-switching while already in a room. Secondly, the game still has updates/DLC expected later throughout the summer. The biggest update will happen in August which is still months away so if you can't wait for that, just buy the game then. Anyway this game a must buy. If not now, definitely by August!

Nintendo's Great Take on the Multiplayer Shooter

Nintendo's take on the multiplayer shooter is one that focuses less on defeating enemy characters and more on "inking your turf." The main goal of the gametypes is to control the most territory by painting portions of the map with you gun. You can turn into a squid and traverse along your painted portions in a quick manner. Somehow this gameplay mechanic makes this game incredibly addicting. The three minute time limit makes matches seem not-too-short and not-too-long. Splatoon finds a perfect balance in the multiplayer matching experience while introducing a brand new mechanic in the shooter genre.

We decided to purchase a Wii U specifically because we wanted to purchase Splatoon. We've not been disappointed. This game is a quirky approach to the shooter style of game. Players can choose from various types of weapons as they use paint to either bring down enemies or to win turf wars. There are tons of weapons that are unlocked as you play the game. Different players become attached to different weapons. You have everything from a virtual version of the old Duck Hunt Zapper gun from the original Nintendo console to a paint brush, bombs, and a bazooka. The game offers online and offline play, but the emphasis is clearly in online play. (If you don't have the Internet connected to your Wii, I wouldn't purchase this game. You're options will be too limited.) The offline play generally focuses on building the player's skills with various weapons. The player must complete various paint shooting tasks to save an innocent. In the big scheme of things, the offline mode trains one to be a better online player. There is a 2-person off-line game. In that game, you compete to use paint to pop more balloons than your competitor. One person uses the gamepad as his/her primary screen while the other person uses the television screen. The online games focuses on 4-on-4 turf wars. The goal is for your team to out paint your competitor's team. You have the option of playing with your friends online, or being matched with random players from around the world. The more you play, the more opportunities you'll have to try out new weapons. You also earn points that are used to purchase clothing for your character. These items give you special abilities when you play the online game. It's fun to explore the different abilities and to change the appearance of your character. The game developers have worked Nintendo's online social world Miiverse into the game nicely. As you are exploring the game, you can see the various comments posted by fellow Splatoon players. The game does have amiibo compatibility. There's no reason to feel as though you must have an amiibo in order to play, however. Having an amiibo can add some additional challenges to the offline game, but unless you play offline a lot, you probably won't use an amiibo very much. You can get additional weapons by completing challenges issued by your amiibo. It's worth getting the amiibo if you are a collector or you think you'll play offline a good deal. While we've greatly enjoyed having this game, there are a couple of limitations. First, only one person per Wii can play online at a time. So, me and my husband can never battle at the same time. One of us has to log off in order for the other person to log into the game. Secondly, no more than two people can play this game offline at a time. That's it. If you have a big family, you'll have to take turns. Thirdly, from time to time there are problems with the online mode. You might get booted off by a poor internet connection or something else might go wrong. This can be annoying not only because you might miss out on a game, but also because it leaves your online team without a player. Nintendo has not provided a computer-generated player that can replace someone who has been kicked off of the game. I've played two games in which 3 of my teammates were booted off early in the game. As a result, I fought a team of 4 by myself. It was humorous the first time it happened. It was annoying the second time. Splatoon is an entertaining game for the young and old. It has given people a new reason to purchase the Wii U.

Splatoon is one of those games where I wish I could have known what the developers were thinking. It has the makings of a great game that was just rushed out the door too quickly with the "we'll add it in free DLC later" mindset. While incredibly fun and addictive, it's missing too many standard, necessary features of modern shooters to ignore these glaring shortcomings. Limited maps/gameplay options, no penalties for going AFK (AFC?) during matches, no way to add new players in if someone DCs (leading to an almost guaranteed loss), no gear swapping in the lobby...the list goes on and on. I get that they're releasing updates to address some of these, but I can't help but feel like the sales guys forced the game out before it was ready. Nevertheless, it's a tentpole franchise for the WiiU that should absolutely be on your list to play.

My son and I love this game! When he asks for TV time he asks for Splatoon more often than a show. Best part is that it isn't scary/gory/violent. You paint the map, whoever has the most paint wins. You can "splat" other players by coating them in ink, but there isn't any reward for it other than stopping them from painting your "turf". My 3 year old even plays a little, so if you're playing and someone is just running around in circles that's him. Sorry about that!

I finally decided to give in and give it a try because of a pretty large Black Friday discount, and I'm glad I did. Conceptually, I love Nintendo's take on the online shooter genre. It gives you an objective and cleverly finds a way to make you prioritize that over shooting your opponents. It's a shooter where you don't really care about shooting people; it's very fresh. That being said, while they released a ton of content in patches, it's still basically an online-only game, and I don't think that's worth $60 to me. I think I paid a good price for it.

Splatoon is such a unique and creative take on the "shooter" genre. Instead of focusing on taking down other players, the main object is to cover more territory with ink than the opposing team; something that is far more entertaining. The content is on the lighter side but they continue to introduce more game modes and weapons for free. The single player campaign is very fun and does a great job of teaching you techniques that can be used online. Even thought the content is fairly light, the gameplay is so fun that I still continue to spend hours playing online.

From the house that built Mario comes an exclusive new IP from Nintendo; one of the first in a long time. This game is great for people of all ages. You can play cooperatively or competitively online with friends and others around the world or jump into a colorfully fun and creatively challenging campaign. The graphics are beautiful and though short, the levels are well thought out. There's humor to be had in the dialogue and it maintains that strict Nintendo feel. Such an awesome and fun shooter. Jump in and paint the world now. What are you waiting for?!

My daughter is really enjoying this game. It is very easy to pick up and play as there is a full walk through tutorial. There's no violence, just paint splattering everywhere, unless you consider getting flattened by a paint roller too extreme of course. Me, I wish the controls were a little tighter when aiming. It takes a little getting used to with the Wii U gamepad. But still, the game is very fun with two teams of four battling out to cover the most area on the map in paint. There are many unlockable outfits and gear. It's a blast. Give it a try.

I didn't intend to buy this game, I thought it looked childish and I'm terrible at FPS games anyway, but a friend talked me into it. I am so glad now that he did, this has become an obsession, this is among the best games I've ever played! The online mode work very well, the silly weapons are entertaining, turf war is great for kids or when you want to relax, ranked mode is much more hardcore than you'd expect. The only weak point is the local multiplayer of all things, you can only play balloon battle with your friends, and then only with 2 players.
