Great thriller! McAvoy was great and keeps you on the edge of your seat. This movie was very interesting and kept me watching. Very happy to have added this to my movie collection.

As the Summary states, hard to dispute a great movie. I would bet that chances are good that you've seen it if you're reading this review, so spoiler be damned, this is what you get.

Let me start by saying I am a M. Night fan and enjoyed most of his movies. He hit some bumps in the road but Split was a true return to form. Interesting story and McAvoy just steals the show with his performance. Definitely a must watch movie!

A happy return to form... with a twist!

So. M. Night Shyamalan. I really enjoyed his THE SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE. However, he nosedived after that. SIGNS is absolute garbage and the mediocre THE VILLAGE cemented his predilection for including a twist in every effort. Despite this, I took a chance on his latest, SPLIT, after hearing some positive chatter. That might not have been enough but I also heard a vague spoiler that piqued my interest. As Shyamalan has continued his reliance on twists and turns with this effort, I will refrain from getting too specific about the story. Even though I've rolled my eyes in the past at some of his "shocking" methods, I found SPLIT to be an enjoyable experience. SPLIT covers some fairly rote territory with its general premise, that being the multiple personality disorder (now known with its updated nomenclature as "dissociative identity disorder") thriller. It is the execution of the premise and the performances, as well as the Hitchcockian visuals, that make SPLIT worth watching. James McAvoy seems to have had a ball chewing the scenery as mentally disturbed (or is he? ooooooooh) Kevin. Watching him switch around accents, speech patterns, and body language is entertaining as heck. McAvoy's enthusiasm is what sells this flick. Anya Taylor-Joy's reserved and wounded Casey is a great foil to McAvoy's broader performance. She effortlessly grounds the proceedings. Shyamalan has always been a master of structure, being an obvious student of Hitchcock, however it is usually his writing that I have a problem with. Although some of his worst tendencies are still present (the maddening desire to engage with the "supernatural" whilst undermining logic and science), it is mostly reigned in. In fact, late in the proceedings, it becomes evident that this proclivity has a purpose this time, instead of just being there as a ham-fisted message. SPLIT is the first Shyamalan effort in a long time that is actually worth a darn. It's notable in that it is a return to his earlier efforts in more ways than one. Going forward, I can't say that I'll be rushing out to see any of his future flicks, but I can say that I'll be slightly less skeptical. I hope he continues in this vein of staying away from beating the audience about the face with his metaphysical beliefs and focuses on just telling a good story. Oh, and make sure you don't turn the movie off before you see the final scene in the diner...

It’s been a long time since M. Night has made a good movie. This one delivers the same tone and suspense as Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense. And James Macavoy does an amazing job.

Actors do a good job keeping the viewer involved in story line. James McAvoy deserves an Oscar. Anya Taylor-Joy also does the screen justice - look forward to more roles by Anya.

I knew this was linked to Unbreakable before I bought it. However, given Shyamalan's record with his movies I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised how well written this movie was and I would definitely recommend watching.

I picked it up for $10. Pretty good deal for a 4K Blu-ray. I’m not going to go into a review of the film but I will say I liked it quite a bit. If you enjoyed this film, I’d say this is a worthwhile purchase. Get it while it’s cheap.

It’s a very good movie. It lays out the framework and explains why he believes that he has super human abilities. It’s a story that could be believable. I think that’s partly why it keeps you waiting to see what will happen.

I ordered the film to pick up at a near by store and it was very easy and went smoothly picking it up. I think this is M. Night Shyamalan’s strongest film of his career.

This movie has a lot of action. You have to see Unbreakable before this one. After that, you have to see Split and then go see Glass. You have to see them in that order.

Blu-ray is excellent, this the best of the trilogy, Unbreakable, Split and Glass. Split feels like a european film, low budget, great cast with a solid script

First things first: the extra star is for the Best Buy service and the Blu-Ray quality. But the movie itself, while a return to form for Shyamalan, only really works because of McAvoy’s outstanding performance and that of Anya Taylor-Joy. It’s a thriller, but the characters are pretty dumb sometimes, and there’s a lot of exposition from Betty Buckley. The now-infamous “twist” that ties it in with the Unbreakable universe feels tacked on, and because not everyone will understand it, it might not work so well for everyone. While Shyamalan cleverly conceals one movie within another, Split has no real payoff within itself!
