Having the same type of story with minimum changes to it and updated visuals was a nice touch. Any fan of the original series will really like this version. I still prefer hand drawn anime, but this time I didn't mind. The movie version wasn't bad too, but that's another story in itself.

I watched Star Blazers as a kid. Loved the story and the action as well as the voice actors. Of course that was back in the days of non-HD small CRT TV's and no surround sound. Watching the original versions now is hard. The video quality is horrible & sound is just ok. Enter the 2199 series. The computer graphics are simply amazing. Hearing the music & effects, in TrueHD 5.1, that were completely redone but in the spirit of the originals is outstanding. The English voice actors are good enough, beats having to read subtitles. The dub doesn't stay too far from the Japanese original track, but is toned down a little to make a little more sense. For anyone that liked the original series, I think you'll be impressed with this new series. And with the 2202 second season (Comet Empire) to be released in early 2019, it'll just keep getting better. Can't wait!

I've long sought the original version of this that I grew up with. It rotated between Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets after school. As a kid I gravitated towards the super heroics of G Force but as I got older the more mature themes presented in Yamato pulled me in. The complex relationships, themes of loss and war, ordinary people rising up and challenging with a little good old fashioned action and adventure thrown in were compelling. And how about the ships! The design work is fantastic! But the original series is quite expensive to pick up. This modern revisit keeps all of those great themes but still manages to make them feel relevant today. Highly recommend this and planning to pick up part two as well as the sequel series soon!

This is a really good re-mix of the classic 70's/80's show that was released in syndication in the US. The look is fantastic. The language is in English with no sub-titles. My only complaint is that they adopted the Japanese names for everything (example: the Argo is now the Yamato, Derek Wildstar & Nova use are the original Japanese names, etc.) If you were going to call the series StarBlazers and actually record dialogue in English, you should go all the way and use the same Anglicized names from the old syndicated version. It's also a little pricey, but not as much as what you can find for the old DVD collections of the original series.

I enjoy watching space cruiser Yamato I have not seen it since the 80s when I was in high school it brought back memories seeing the cast and crew coming back again in a new updated version really looking forward to the next part that comes out

I grew up watching this as a kid when it was called Star Blazers but never got to see how it ended. Excellent show, but Best Buy needs to start carrying part 2 if they are going to carry part one!

Star Blazers has been updated, but still retains the wonderful story line that I remembered as a child. The characters have more depth to them, and I was so blessed to find it at Best Buy.

This is a remake of “ aStar Blazers “ from the 80’s I watched the original when I was a kid- this new one has better art and more evolved storyline. Very enjoyable!

An great remake of the original series Starblazers from back in the 80's. I was a huge fan back then, and I'm a huge fan now. Looking forward to purchasing part two, and the rest of the series.

The art has been updated so that characters are more anatomically correct and has a great balance of drawn and then CGI drawn art. The story (I don’t totally remember the original) seems to be faithful to the original series as during watching the first handful of episodes, I started recognizing characters as well was what should happen in the storyline and so far everything has been all smiles. I’m very happy to have this as part of my anime collection and can’t wait for future seasons. If you're new to this series, it's a great Wild West/spaceship battle adventure with good character development and action and suspense. Recommended.

Star blazers is back with a fresh coat of new animated paint babeh

Any fans of the original Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers in the USA) really need to watch this series. The updated visuals are far superior to the old, and much like the old Battlestar Galactica's remake in the early 2000's, some of the characters have been modified from the old...but in this case, it works much better...A truly superior series thus far, and well worth watching.

If you grew up in the 70’s like I did than you probably watched Star Blazers on TV. This is a re-tooling of that show with new animation, voice actors and soundtrack. The show is better than I remember and the new animation and 5.1 surround sound soundtrack make it a fantastic viewing experience. If you loved Star Blazers than you need to check this version out!!!

I loved the old Star Blazers and this update certainly does it justice. Every portion of the series as been redone; animation, soundtrack, etc. The visuals really pop and the story moves along at a good pace. If you are a fan of the original, I highly recommend getting this update.

Based on the 1970's tv series, this is a remake of the original Space Battleship Yamato, and the remake is stunning. It follows the original storyline, adding a few new characters, and updating a lot to make the series make more sense. If you liked the original Star Blazers, you'll love this!

I remember the star blazers as a kid. I saw a year ago it was remade with a similar story line. When I looked it was not available. I was in Best buy window shopping and saw it. Can not wait for the second set.

if you are a fan of the original yamato/starblazer series this is for you. updated for a more modern audience. a refreshed ship and crew launching on a mission to save the earth. the only low point is their attempt to recreate the the starblazer theme song in japanese which sounds silly as they replace starblazers with yamato.
