Being a huge fan of Star Fox series myself, I have to say this game disappointed me greatly. But that doesn't mean it's a bad game, not even close. Platinum Games is one of best studios but sadly the game seems to be afterthought or rushed. The graphics could be better, the story is fairly interesting, the designs isn't the best. But what really drags this game down is the controls. It's awkward, limited and confusing. For entire game, it uses gamepad for aiming but it pretty much requires you to look at gamepad screen for most of time. Pro controller isn't supported so you're limited to gamepad. Overall, it's okay and hope next Star Fox game on Switch will be better, especially with better controls.

Star Fox for SNES was my first favorite game, and I've loved the franchise ever since. Naturally, I was very excited about this release. The gameplay and content that exists doesn't disappoint, but this game could have done with a lot more levels. I don't regret the purchase, but I do feel like Nintendo missed a big opportunity to make an amazing game when they chose not to create more levels for this one. Some of the levels that are present and that can only be unlocked on a second or third play are relatively short time trial type missions or "protect the Great Fox" distractions that aren't nearly as compelling as the on-rails, action packed trips across planet surfaces or through an enemy armada in the midst of a great battle. Don't be scared away from this one if you are a fan, but come in knowing that there is a lot more that could have been done to make this another exceptional Star Fox game.

I didn't have any issues with the controls like some people were talking about but I still like the original better. Being a collector I had to buy t and I still think its a good game just not what the original was. Still worth buying if you are a star fox fan.

Star Fox Zero is a really fun game to play. You just need to take a bit of time to get used to the controls. Star Fox Guard, which came with my copy, is a great companion game which is basically a tower defense game. Pretty fun if you like that type of game.

When purchasing this game I had fond memories of this game, the game looked amazing and when starting it I enjoyed how it splits the cockpit on the pad until I tried to control it. Not easy to look at 2 things at once. This game is ruined by it.

Both games are very arcade like. Standard weak amiibo support. Star Fox Guard actually uses the gamepad which is nice. Reminds me a lot of Star Fox 64 if you're into that :) Don't get flustered with the controls of the bat, it get's easier!

Loved the star fox game for 64. New game is alot of fun and reminisces of older game. Wanted to buy the new game to try it out. Controls can be frustrating at times but still a very good game. Would recommend to wait until discounted.

The control scheme will take some getting used to, but if you stick with it, this game pays off in spades. The second game included is kind of like a tower defense game, it’s smart, frenetic and original.

I remember playing the original Star Fox, which I loved so much. So when I saw this I was overtaken with a feeling of nostalgia. The game is fun and the fact that it came included with a second game "Star Fox Guard", made the purchase that much better. My only issue was the controls themselves. They are overly complex. Trying to steer with the left joist stick, add barrel rolls or some other advanced maneuver with the right joystick, all the while trying to aim with the game pad made it hard to figure out where to actually look, the TV or the Gamepad. You eventually start to get used to it, so don't get discouraged and stick with it. I just wish they were a tad simpler. Other than the steering mechanics I had a lot of fun playing this game and would definitely recommend it.

The graphics and game play are good, except for the motion control. I wasn't a big fan of the motion controls, but its not a deal breaker as far as enjoying the game. Overall its a good buy for all Star Fox fans old and new.

I Hated This Game... At First!

This game is actually pretty fun and complex if you have the patience to master its controls. However, getting there could take a while. I completely hated my first playthrough because I could not get a handle of the controls. I really didn't like it and I cursed at Nintendo for making such an awful game many times. But every time I turned it off I wanted to get back into it and try harder. I did eventually get really good and now I have a lot of fun with it and I was finally able to uncover all the secret paths. Unfortunately I still prefer Star Fox 64 over this one. Maybe next time they'll finally continue the story of Star Fox. Either way this game is a must own for any Star Fox fan or Wii U owner because it is very different and should be experienced at least once.

I've 100% completed this game. It's got an amazing the story, which, unlike what you may have heard, is indeed quite different from Star Fox 64's. The game play, while different, is amazing. You can do things that you'd otherwise never be able to do. But forgetting about the controls, as I've seen far too much focus on them recently, the game design is very good. The bosses are well thought out and compliment the game play, and the levels give a great and fair challenge. This is a fantastic game, and it'd be foolish to say otherwise.

This is the first star fox game I've played and I had a blast. I'll admit there are moments where the controls can be frustrating but I don't feel they are as bad as everyone else made them out to be. The game can feel short too but there are a lot of alternative paths you can take meaning you could beat the game without playing all they levels. Playing for high scores is also a great feature for replayability and the two player mode is fun too. Keep in mind though that two people aren't playing as their own ship. Rather, one player flies the plane while the other shoots. Trust me though, it's fun having to work together. Dinged the review one star because I can't deny that the controls won't give you trouble at least once.

I was never a fan of motion controls from the original Nintendo Wii. It's the reason that the original Wii is my least favorite gaming system to date. The Wii U on the other hand, is one of my favorite gaming systems to date because I love the tablet controller's second screen. The problem with this game is that it forces you to use the motion controls, even though the game would be perfectly playable without them. It's totally their right to design a game around motion controls, but it certainly drops the replay-ability for me. I loved the N64 version, and was hoping to relive that magic, but for my play-style, this simply isn't as fun to control. I would recommend this with the caveat that you have to like motion controls.

This game is pretty fun.
My only issue with the game is that you have to use the Wii game pad to aim. It can be a bit annoying at times. Other than that it feels just like Starfox on the N64.

This game is meant to be played through multiple times, unlocking new paths, stages, and challenges. There's lots to go back and collect that will encourage you to change your play style. The controls are a dividing point for a lot of players, but the game really excels in its use of the motion controls and fine tune aiming using the gamepad screen, to where switching back and forth becomes second nature and doesn't distract from events happening on the main screen. Excellent game.

A reboot of Starfox 64, Starfox Zero more or less follows the same planet-hopping plot as you make your way to Andross and Venom. Some may be turned off that a trip to the finish can be accomplished in a few hours, but the game is structured with multiple playthroughs in mind. The game also looks rather nice visually, and frequently references that old N64 classic through design and elements.
Motion controls through the gamepad are required in this game, barring co-op play, so those who dislike tilting the Wii-U gamepad to aim might find such a choice to be frustrating. Overall, I still think it is worth a purchase, if perhaps after a discount.

I enjoyed this game a great deal and do recommend that if you are able to try it out, give it a shot. The reviews about the controls being terrible are a bit blown out of proportion however they do take some practice to get use to. You can change the options to always center the reticle when not firing, which helps a great deal. The only other gripe I have is that I wish the voices came through the tv and not the game pad. It isn't too big of a deal as the way my tv center is set up I can plug up the game pads audio to it, but I shouldn't have to do that. Overall, a great game that I go back to from time to time.
