I've personally played this game about 25 hrs. I really don't know why everyone is so upset about the game. My only thought is that they haven't really played it, or they never really gave it a chance. I've played battlefield 2, 3, 4, hardline, and 1, along with several Halo games, and the classic COD's. I also was a big fan of the 2005 star wars battlefront 2.
I personally find that EA delivered with this game. There is a massive amount of content, and if they are able to keep putting out content with their free DLC, it will be the most comprehensive star wars game to date. The progression I have found to be quite easy. I, personally only have 2 heroes left to unlock, and I could have them all unlocked by now if I hadn't bought some loot crates along the way with the in game credits. I find the progression in this game to be less intense than Battlefield 1. I also have had zero issues feeling like people are "paying-to-win," though it does make for a good excuse when you're getting your butt kicked.
All of this to say, if you're actually curious about the game but doubtful, rent it for a night or borrow it from a friend. Don't write it off if you love star wars! Some people are using this game, because it is so high profile, to get their voices heard by corporations. I understand that, but I also think this is one of the best games of the year.

Everyone is complaining about pay to win loot boxes but it takes all of four days to get to the level that someone can pay for in a minute. For the love of god, I could smoke anyone with a level one card-less assault class, it isn't pay to win its pay to get an advantage for the players that are just terrible at fps. The game itself is great, they added a lot of improvements from the first game. I hate the micro transactions just as much as the last guy but only based on principal not because they "give players unfair advantages" because they don't. However the mere act of trying to penny pinch your fan base is really messed up. I would love to see a Star Wars Battle Front 3 at some point in the future, and I fear that everyone protesting micro-transactions are actually just damaging the starwars battlefront title's future. EA needs to keep the crystals out of the game and Customers need to include their honest opinions about game play in their reviews. The game is fun, an improvement to the first, more maps, they added a campaign, more Heros, and its easy as heck to get leveled up with the card system so don't waste your money on micro balogna. Your kid will love this game once they get used to me merking them off the face of the map in an A-wing while they pillar hump in an attempt to cap objectives.

This product was a complete let down. You can’t jump right into split screen and play all the missions or characters. You have to play online to unlock them.

Regarding the single player campaign

This review is only in regards to the story mode, for anyone who may be interested in that perspective rather than just all the multiplayer pay to win loot box nonsense.
This single player was terrible. The story jumped around. You'll play as some "heroes" on some missions. You can choose 1st or 3rd person to play in, but not on the hero missions, where you're forced to play in 3rd. Single player feels like an extension of the multiplayer and does not feel like a typical single player game, like say, Call of Duty. What I mean by that is, you start with a weapon. If you don't like that weapon, you can't just pickup the weapon of someone you killed. You either need to find the very rare weapon rack or a certain type of crate (which may appear only once in a level) and there you can change your weapon and equip cards like the mp has.
It was also very, very short. I compare to Call of Duty, because those get criticized for being short campaigns. Reviewers will say 6 hours. They usually take me twice that because I play slowly, like to look at the environment, and run around looking for collectibles and stuff. I saw reviewers saying Battlefront 2 story could be finished in 4 hours. I balked at that. I figured at least 10 hours for me. Nope. I finished the entire game in one sitting in 6 hours, and I died a lot and spent a lot of time exploring levels. So if you were to just run through the levels and not have to reload checkpoints, you could probably beat this in 4 hours.
I'm not sure how much multiplayer I will play since I work 2 jobs and don't have a lot of time for that. So to anyone who is really buying this because they wanted a Star Wars story game, the story itself is ok, but it's a tad generic feeling, though it looks amazing on the PS4 Pro. Knowing what I know now, and buying it mainly for single player, I would've waited for this to hit $20. I definitely regret buying this right now.

Game ruined by pay to win loot boxes

Decent game completely ruined by loot boxes.
All of the cool content is locked behind loot boxes, you either pay to get a chance to get the content you want to play, or you have to play a ridiculous amount of time just for a chance to unlock something.
Plus people that pay get special power ups and extra resources that players that dont pay wont get.

Game was patch and now exp points seem a lot fair. This is not the only game with loot boxes, people. The issue this game had when it launched was that it required you to play way to much with out really getting rewarded. So you had to invest tons of hours to even unlock a cool character. Thank god this is now the past!
