Up to four devices with HD component video or composite video output jacks and left-right RCA connector audio jacks can be connected to the switch box. The switchbox does not have jacks for other video connectors such as HDMI or S-Video. The switch box is a good device to have if your TV only has one set of component video jacks and you have multiple older video game or dvd players that do not have HDMI jacks. The input device to view is selected by buttons on the switch box or by an included remote control. The instruction manual also describes how to program your television or media center remote to select the input device.

Good & Inexpensive Component Switch

I bought this StarTech Component switch to replace a Radio Shack Component Switch that started flashing and rolling the screen whenever the screen was all or mostly white. Radio Shack no longer carries them or they were way too expensive and found this model on here. I have an older Rear Projection HD TV with a DVI and Component Connection. I used this switch for Charter Cable, WII, Blu-Ray, PS2 (I also have used it for XBOX 360 - but later moved XBOX direct to the DVI and A/V). The picture is great - even with my glasses on. If a good picture is being broadcast or sent from the machine it looks good on the screen - and no more flashing when the screen is white (hooray!). The switch also learns buttons on your other remote to switch the ports remotely from your chair just like my old one. This is very handy not to have to get up to press the button to switch (although it does come with a button to do so if you happen to be standing at it). It is very light, so if you do use the button, press down on the top to keep it from sliding when you press the button. This was a good/fair price if you need Component switch.

My Startech switch was easy to install and works perfectly. There are many more expensive switches available but this one does the job.

This device is very useful if you have multiple devices, and not enough inputs on your TV to use them without switching which is connected. Being able to push a button to use a device makes this well worth the cost.

Wrong power supply with unit

The unit came with a five volt power supply, but the instructions showed it needed nine volts, so it did not work. I have not had time to take it back to return it. I bought another mechanical unit from Amazon and it works fine.

Well, I haven't seen anything not to like yet. I plugged it in, connected the two devices with component video out to the inputs labeled 1 and 2, connected the switch's output to the component video input on my TV, switched my TV to that component video input, and got a good picture, no problem. I then switched the switch's remote control from input 1 to input 2, and the switch was clean and I immediately started seeing the video from the second device.
I did not have any problem with the power supply, as one reviewer reported.
I did not have any problem with the picture being fuzzy, as another reviewer reported.
And I had no problem at all setting it up and making it work right. In fact, I didn't even realize there was a manual until AFTER I had set it all up and proved to my satisfaction that it worked properly. So the report of difficulty operating it particularly puzzles me.
One item in the manual which I had not expected, and that is the capability of teaching a universal remote to select the inputs, so one doesn't have to squeeze in that fourth remote that comes with this product onto the arm of one's couch, or an adjacent coffee-table or whatever. Unfortunately I don't have any universal remote, so I can't take advantage of that. So I'm just going to have to make room for that fourth remote; very small drawback.
So, after a grand total of less than two hours operating it, I'm happy. Let's hope it stays that way!

Exceeded expectations, very pleased with product. We were down to one component connection on hdtv, what a relief.

Hooked up the switch to a Happauge DVR 2112 and picture came out terrible. Thought it might be cables, so they were replaced to no avail.
Haven't tried the customer service, but I will update when they contact me back.
