If you have seen the anime then you know what you’re getting into with Steins;Gate Elite. The difference with the game is you get a bit more detailed information and Okabe’s internal monologue. The scenes are cut straight from the anime with additional scenes added for context. The voice acting is great and the skip feature allows you to play/watch the game without having to worry about pressing X to advance the dialogue. You will however still have to address Okabe’s cell phone messages which are sprinkled throughout each chapter. The downsides to Elite would be the lack of the original VN art style which is gorgeous and subtle changes to the dialogue. Also, I wouldn’t recommend playing the game immediately after watching the anime as you will likely suffer from burnout. All in all if you’re a fan of the story Steins;Gate has to offer then Elite is a fantastic way to experience it. Think of it as a Director’s Cut of the anime.

If you already own the original VN, this adds animated scenes from the anime, which I personally did not watch, so I can't comment on that. However, I bought this predominantly for the bonus content, which is about 20 hours long.

Steins;Gate Elite is a remake of Steins;Gate, originally released in 2009, utilizing footage and artwork from the Steins;Gate anime, released in 2011, as well as using music, voice work, and part of the text from the original game which features a extremely well crafted and mind blowing story that you will enjoy from beginning to end. Highly recommendable to the fans of the anime and visual novels in general.

This is a great game and a terrific price. Great entertainment value.

This product is a worthy remake of the original. Very fun!

This would be the first game i the series I ever played as there was an entry for PS3. The way this game is presented is different from other visual novels that I’m accustomed too as it’s animated. The developer really put much effort to make this a pleasing to see as well as play.

Really this is what the original should have been like. A moving visual novel game. The story has been told and retold a bunch of times. They are really milking the material. Enjoyable non the less.

Steins Gate is a great entry into the visual novel genre. The story itself is really good and it goes over the missing plot points not seen in the anime. The cutscenes are mostly animated so it is refreshing to see.

Great visual novel series. Picked this up on discount and I’m waiting for the next entry to be released.

A good way to experience Steins;Gate, but I would recommend the original VN for the original art style and slightly missing content if you have a way to play it.

Good Japanese RPG game for PS4. In case you have a PS4 it is a good option.

a must buy for visual novel fans and for people who played the original

While I found the first-half to be mysterious, I cannot deny that it often felt tedious, boring, and longwinded. Only until the second-half, did I personally became attached to the character and the story. While I ultimately like the experience, I wish it didn't have to "get good" until 15 hours in. As for whether to get Elite or the original visual novel, I'd say go for the visual novel. This version is known for removing a lot of the interactivity of the original, and has a hit-or-miss animation style. Often times, it feels Elite is a budget project that relies on the anime a bit too much. Even then, I would suggest the anime over Elite.
