I absolutely am in love with this game! Had the original version on Gamecube years ago and was sad I could no longer play it, as this is definitely one of my more favorite titles in the HM series - but this game absolutely captured that charm and enhanced it by letting me customize my character and horse, as well as some in game character changes to names and appearances that I wasn't really a fan of in the Gamecube version. 100/10 recommend for old school HM lovers!

You have had to play this when it was on the GameCube. This just brings back nostalgia. Of course this isnt as “fun” or have many other things to do compared to stardew vally or other newer farm games. There isn’t a whole lot of lots to grow crops. So those who havent played this before and played the newer farm games, this might be trash for you. But this was fun during its time. I love it and i love all the simple limited things. I enjoyed it as a kid and as an adult I enjoy it as much.

Keeps much of the spirit of the original game while streamlining UIs and adding several more character events and other features (such as a the request board) that inhance gameplay. Working the fields/ranch is much less tedious with new hitbox mechanics. If you loved the original and have continued to enjoy new additions to the series over the years, you definitely need to try this one out!

I’m really enjoying this remake. I played the crap out of the original because I loved how the game was difficult at times but not to difficult, as well as for the characters and that you’re game and you’re characters story runs in chapters. The remake does not disappoint in those aspects. I really enjoy the art style although I do prefer the originals. The Creators just did really well again like in friends of mineral town remake. These games are really near to my heart and were a getaway when life got tough for me. So I appreciate the work that was done and the love that was showed. Not to mention it’s cool getting to have a same sex partner if you want one.

Simple game. You farm, communicate with other residents and take care of adorable farm animals. Cozy game to take your mind off things if you had a stressful day. Reminds me of when I played it as Harvest Moon on the PS2. Lovely pick up would recommend.

It’s a great remake from the original! Frame rate and visual designs are all amazing. The gameplay is simple just like the original game. The pacing is very slow though. It’s a relaxing slow pacing farm game.

    A Wonderful Life…Twenty Years Ago

I can’t recommend this remake unless you don’t mind the faults I’ll mention below and just want to experience A Wonderful Life again. If you haven’t played the original, I recommend avoiding this remake altogether. Remaking a game always faces the challenge of needing to keep a balance between preserving what made the original game beloved and updating it with modern standards; whether it be fixing outdated game mechanics, adding quality of life improvements, or, most obviously, updating the visuals. The original game, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life from the GameCube and PlayStation 2, is widely loved by many, including myself. It was my favorite farming “simulator” when I was younger and I have nothing but wholesome memories from the game. With that being said, despite being a great game for its time, A Wonderful Life did not age well in most regards. No, there isn’t anything wrong with the game, per se, it’s just that many other games since AWL have greatly expanded and improved on the farming sim formula; Stardew Valley being the prime example. A Wonderful Life has unparalleled charm, quirky characters, and one of my favorite soundtracks from any game ever. However, its mechanics, gameplay options, NPC interactions, etc. are all overly simplistic and outdated by today’s standards. It is a game from almost 20 years ago, of course, so it’s understandable in most regards. It is because of the circumstances above why I’m a little baffled by this remake. Aside from a few minor quality-of-life improvements, which nonetheless are greatly appreciated, Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is nearly the exact same Harvest Moon game from twenty years ago. Gameplay mechanics, animations, features, and daily activities are nearly untouched. Keeping the game as simple as the original isn’t necessarily a bad thing and can be forgiven, but not modernizing or fixing much of anything else is frustrating. General farming activities are clunky, with the item selection bar/menu feeling like a chore just to use, character animations are stiff and repetitive, and sound effects aren’t always in sync with what you are doing. It may sound like a silly complaint, but it’s quite distracting with how noticeable it is. What may be the worst part about this remake, however, is the performance. Yes, the game has updated visuals, but they’re lackluster at best, and in some cases ugly with how colorfully bland Marvelous has made everything look. Texture and object pop-ups are frequent, with far-away objects and landscapes having to render in as you walk closer. The world is small, almost tiny enough where you can see the entirety of Forgotten Valley on your screen depending where you are. Frame rates are an issue too. Shadows of small objects such as trees and grass blowing in the wind stutter everywhere. Any time I would go fishing or walk into a cutscene, the environmental effects around me struggled to maintain a steady frame rate, with everything performing even worse at sunset. It is surprising the game was launched like this, even for the Switch. (Side note: What makes this worse is I can confirm the same issues persist on the PlayStation 5 version, which is even more insane.) The game is far too basic to have any of these graphical and performance issues.

I was so excited when I found out A Wonderful Life was being remade, I cried. It was one of the first video games I ever owned and my absolute favorite from my childhood. It’s pretty much the same as the original game but with updated graphics and modern day farming sim mechanics.

People who don't like the game clearly have never played the original. It's a nostalgic feel. The game is a freeform farm life simulation with trigger events. I have been waiting for a remake for 20+ years now. I'm very happy with how this game turned out. It is very similar to the original with some updates. I hated the Story of Seasons Olive Town and Mineral Town games because time passed so quickly. The other games were also were very task-based, which didnt leave time for talking to townsfolk or activities off the farm. For this game, A Wonderful Life, it promotes more of a work-life-balance. I think anyone who likes farming and community would like this game. I do, however, believe anyone with a short attention span and little patience would not like the game. The reason for this is because the game is sort of slowed down (not in a bad way). It's literally like country livin'. Life slows down and you have your farm tasks but you also need community and hobbies (fishing, mining, etc.). I enjoy the gameplay, and I'd highly recommend it.

I wasn't thrilled by this game. I wanted a more relaxed gaming experience, and while Seasons certainly delivered that, I found myself becoming bored with the world too early on. I did enjoy the characters, and there was some freedom in who I could be and whom I could befriend and crush on, but too much time was spent wandering and looking for mission items. Also, some of the mechanics were less-than-intuitive, and I wasn't always sure how to accomplish tasks. There's promise here, but only that.

Relaxing and enjoyable, a fun remake of the classic title that started a whole new genre of games. If you’re into Stardew Valley and the like, it’s definitely fun to see where the inspiration came from. Graphically gorgeous, they really put their heart into this remake.

This game is so fun. It's essentially the remake of Harvest Moon from the Gamecube, which was my favorite game as a kid. This has been so nostalgic and I play it everyday. Simple fun game for adults and kids.

I’ve been waiting for this remake to come out as I played the original when I was younger and it was my favorite hm game, now my favorite title in all of sos. I love how they stayed true to the og in this while making it more full of life at the same time. Yes, it’s different from normal farming / life sims. It revolves around getting married in the 1st year and starting a family, watching them grow up and getting older is the endgame. it definitely is the most personal and touching in that way, to see your relationships bloom over time and also IMO is good for children to play this and learn about the concept of death in a subtle way. Yes characters can pass from old age, they can pass from illnesses, animals can pass if you don’t take care of them. But it teaches you the importance of cherishing the people and life around you because of it.

I didn't play the original game so there's no nostalgia factor for me and I find the game too slow and not enough to do. I missed an event in year 2 which limits what is available for crops and requests. I'm trying to get to the end of the game but it isn't much fun. Pioneers of Olive Town is so much better.

This game brings me back to when I was seven years old playing Harvest Moon for the first time. It’s so much more fun than I remember (probably because I am old enough to really understand now). The character dialogues can get boring because they do repeat, but I enjoy the cutscenes where you get to know them all better. I do wish hybrid crops took less grinding. Other than that, I love it. Ten stars out of five.
