This tripod is perfect! It's comfortable to grip and sturdy! The pistol grip ball head allows you to move your camera so smoothly, it has improved my videos and photos tremendously! It is sturdy and I love that you are able to fold it down small, this makes it super convinient for on the go. I photograph the northern lights in alaska and the cushion grips allow me to adjust the legs in -40 degree weather with no issue! I also like the spikes that you can twist out to make the tripod even more stable outside! If you are looking for a great quality tripod, look no further! This is the one!

I have a small camera with a large flash. Both are supported very well on this tripod, unless I try fancy angles, then the heavy flash will pull the head down and throw-off the shot (the friction-grip does not have a very tight grip). This is not much of a problem, though, since I don't have to make shots in that way; I can, instead, use the strengths of the tripod, and there are plenty. Lightweight. VERY tall, when fully extended (nice for a tall photographer). Built to last. Comes with a nice shoulder bag! Can invert the camera-mounting column, and put camera upside down, beneath tripod legs, for very close macros. Effective and convenient quick-release camera mount (easy on/off).

Since I upgraded my DSLR, I needed a new tripod that could handle the weight of a heavy camera with a large lens and a speedlite flash mounted. This tripod is excellent and easily supports the weight, which is rated at 16lbs. The only two issues I had with it are, your fingers can get caught with the pistol grip depending on the angle. You just have to learn to prep the correct angle for your shot beforehand. Secondly, when I had the camera mounted for a portrait shot, the ball head didn't hold the weight initially and it kept dropping down a bit. I did some easy adjustments and was able to fix this but wish it was set that way at shipping since I was in the middle of shooting when I ran into this. A great tripod that easily rivals the more expensive professional models.

Tri Pod legs Great; Ball head not so...

Well made, stable, pistol grip seemed convenient, but could not support my DSLR and 17-70 lens. Tightened set screw and improved somewhat, but could not be stable with camera in vertical position. Legs operaated flawlessly, I substituted a Dolica Pistol Grip ball head and all is grand! The legs alone are worth more than the purchase price. If one has a mirrorless ICLcamera with a lighter lens this tripod with head would be ideal. Well worth my investment.

I wouldn't trust the ball connection with any real heavy cameras, but it is fine for lighter cameras, and the rest of the tripod is great. Real Pro quality, and carbon fiber, at a bargain price. Can't lose with this one!

couldn't beat the price. Everything is tight and solid. It can hold my spotting scope which is quite heavy. The quick change mounting plates work well. The scope is off and the camera is on in seconds. It has a very nice sturdy carry case..no complaints here

    Sturdy Carbon Fiber Tripod

This tripod is well built. The carbon fiber legs have sturdy clip type adjustments and feet that can be adjusted to a rubber pad, or a spike for sticking into the ground for stability. Thus tripod is supposed to hold up to 16 pounds. I put my canon 7D Mark ii and a 100-400 lens and it held it well, except when I tried to point it up to the sky at more than about a 45 degree angle for solar photography. Then the head would slip and not hold the camera where I wanted it. There is supposed to be an adjustment you can make with an allen wrench, which I have not tried yet. But for most photography, where you will not be at that angle, it should hold well. The pistol grip is very easy to use and seems to grip well to keep the camera where you want it. It can also pan, as well as swivel in just about any direction on the ball head. I would definitely recommend this tripod.

Excellent tripod for the budding video newbie

Lets get this out of the way right now: if you're a pro, you've probably already invested in better. If you're a wet-behind-the-ears beginner, you're going to be intimidated by the price. If you're an intermediate who has been looking for a good all-around workhorse, this is your tripod. I shopped around before I settled on this model. The similarly-sized and featured Manfrotto tripods were much too flimsy, and I've had my fill of cheap Targus units that shake when my DSLR is attached. I don't have the largest budget to work with, so I went to go see this one in person at the nearest Best Buy, and I'm so glad I did! This is the heaviest tripod I own, which makes it a burden to hike with, but if you want a great stable surface to shoot pictures or video with you could do a LOT worse. Carbon fiber construction gives this thing almost zero shake even in high wind. The included (and replaceable) ball-grip head makes panning a snap and holds position even with a DSLR camera that has been equipped with a battery grip and larger-than standard lens (I wouldn't trust it with a bulky zoom lens though -- something could get damaged). The legs have a cushion wrapped around the top section making it easy to grip. The leg hinges have a "manual override" that allows you to spread them past the normal tripod stance to get even lower angles, and the center column comes out so that you can replace it with a shorter one (included) to get the camera even closer to the floor. Levels on the base and on the head make it easy to get a starting position. Lastly, the rubber feet on the tripod screw up to reveal stainless steel spikes, which gives it extra grip on ice and dirt.

    Sturdy tripod

This tripod is sturdy with its carbon fiber legs. It is rated to hold heavy camera equipment, which it does well with my Canon 7Dii and a 100-400 ii lens. The pistol grip is very convenient to use, but takes a little getting used to the different positions it can do. There were no instructions included. The one drawback is if you are pointing a heavy lens and camera up to the sky to shoot stars or the sun. It tends to move a little after you have set the angle you want. But it would be great for shooting wildlife at a distance where your angle is more or less straight. Lightweight, easy to extend legs, and carrying case is durable.

Price point is a little high, but I like this sturdy well put together product. The pistol grip handle is an awesome and really easy to use innovation. I am not a pro photographer, but I am a professional Graphic Designer who uses this product when shooting print work, some still life studio photography, and product shots. It works great.

I like the pistol grip ball head. My one issue which keeps me from rating 5 stars are the latches on the legs. They seem a bit cheap although they haven't broken yet. They can be difficult to open and close.

I was looking for a tripod that would hold a 15+ pound large format camera and not cost me a fortune. Options were limited but I'm so glad I found the Sunpak Ultrapro. It's easy to use, comes with a great carrying case and holds the heavy camera with very little wobbling. It also has leveling bubbles to ensure straight photos. I would highly recommend!
