There are a few issues, but I'm glad it's back

The Bomberman series was one of my favorites growing up, so getting a new entry on the Switch, especially seeing as I thought the franchise was dead, was really exciting. However, I wouldn't call this the perfect Bomberman that I wanted. There are some glaring issues like input lag while playing online, the lack of a lot of power ups and modes from previous games, and the price being pretty steep for what you do get. Although, that should be a deal breaker, me and my friends are having so much fun with the game I can look past it. Unless you really love Bomberman like me or have some friends that you can get together and have a blast with, I really wouldn't recommend it, but even with the issues I really enjoy this game.

I loved the old school Bombermans and really enjoy this throw back to the classic layout. Although their 3D world games (like Bomberman 64) were alright, the classic 2D grid is still my preferred gameplay mode. This new version brings in some challenging bosses but offers the classic battle mode I grew to love.

When I first got my Switch, I purchased this game due to the 8 person multiplayer. First thing I did was the co-op story mode with my girlfriend and I. Instant regret, the controls were really bad, the 3D was horribly done as I kept getting stuck behind a pillar. This was easily my least favorite Switch game that I owned, behind Zelda, 1-2 Switch, and Snipperclips. My game night came around, and 7 other friends came by. I did not really want to play Bomberman, but I wanted to see the 8 player chaos. The 8 player mode brought the game back to life for me. It felt like classic Bomberman, except, there are 8 people running around. This game is a must have if you have friends to play with.

Bomberman has been around over 3 decades. Konami has made many, many titles in the series. So they really should have this down by now. For this entry they do and don't. The 'do' is that it is classic Bomberman action. Hard to mess that up. The 'don't' lies in the presentation. Many stages are colorful to the point that it makes it difficult to distinguish the stage, which can make things difficult as you need to make very sure about your placement in rows and columns for safety and whatnot. Also, the odd 3/4ish view can make such trying also. Overall, I'd recommend this game, but not at full price. Grab it if you're a fan of the series at $30 or less.

Get it while you still can

Although this was later released on the Xbox One and Playstation 4 with more features and performance enhancements, this is still the better edition simply because you can take it anywhere with you. If you played bomber man before, you know how this goes; plant a bomb in a maze, hope the explosion kills all of the enemies on the screen without it killing you at the same time, and get powers so you can be better at doing this. It doesn't get to the legendary 10-player multiplayer count of the Sega Saturn release, but this is the most recent iteration of the game on modern consoles that gets the closest to that number (8 players!). If you can still grab a physical copy of the game, do so. There's no excuses, especially since they're selling the physical version way less than what you'd get for digitally.

Fun to Play but Not a Slam Dunk

The core gameplay for this title is solid and fun, and the presentation is charming to a fault. However a few issues keep this from being an amazing game. For such simple gameplay it's beyond me why it only runs at 30fps, the game isn't groundbreaking at all in the graphics department, and online play can be laggy. The game isn't worth $50, but thanks to Best Buy rewards I was able to buy it for $35 and I think that price is fair for the game. If you want a good party game for your Switch right now when there aren't many games out, this game will fulfill that need in a pinch, definitely fun to be had here, albeit at a slightly high price.

It's nice to see bomberman back after seven years of absence. While this might not provide the big grand single player story experience like some of the older titles, it provides an incredibly fun multi-player experience which is what we have come to expect most from the series. The price is a bit steep for a game of its depth, but it's well worth it for the fun it is at parties. It's worth noting it supports up to 8 player local multi-player, so if you have access to that many joy con's you can have that many people join in on the fun. You can't say that about many other games on any console.

This game is fun and it's perfect for the Nintendo Switch! Single player can get a bit boring after awhile, but playing 4-player with some friends is why you would want this game. I got it on Black Friday at an amazing price, so it was well worth it!

I used to play this on the super Nintendo all the time back in the 90s. Now that's it's 2017 its still a lot of fun if you have friends who come over or want to battle online. Single player needs work but multi player is a blast. pun intended.

Super Bomberman R represents the return of one of gaming's most beloved franchises from the 1980s and 1990s. It is a return to form, as it features a lengthy single-player campaign, including boss battles, and a consistently entertaining multiplayer feature, either online or with up to seven local friends. The campaign, in the style of the franchise's earlier iterations, has the player (either alone or with a second local player) completing objectives in a grid arena; to achieve these goals, he or she needs to traverse the arena and lay bombs to remove environmental obstructions and foes. At the end of each world (comprised of six stages), the player experiences one stage where he or she duels a similarly skilled Dastardly Bomber opponent and then a final boss battle featuring a challenging oversized enemy. This mode would be entertaining alone, but the cooperative mode allows the strengths to shine forth; happily, the Switch comes equipped with two controllers, so you and a buddy can play the game without any further investment. The more robust competitive multiplayer mode is the most entertaining aspect of the game, and this too can be played with anywhere between 1 and 8 players; AI-controlled bots can pad out the roster, so a player could conceivably play this mode alone with up to seven AI characters. Like most multiplayer games, there is a point system where winning matches accrues points that can be spent customizing the appearance of a player's Bomberman avatar or buying new characters and stages. I haven't opened many of the unlockable items yet, but the few I have are thoroughly entertaining. A few important notes: (1) as a positive, in contrast to early fears, this game includes NO microtransactions. It is fully-featured out of the box. (2) As a negative, the online component suffers from fairly extreme lag as of 3/13/17. It is largely unplayable online at the moment, though Konami has claimed that they are seeking to fix this. If that lag is fixed, the game will be a perfect online game - simple to learn but challenging to master, and portable to boot! As a conclusion, I'd like to provisionally recommend this game. It won't win any awards for its single-player campaign, but as a local multiplayer game, it's hard to beat. Once Konami has ironed out the online issues, it will also be an outstanding online multiplayer game.

Konami has decided to bring back bomberman for the nintendo switch. This is a very fun game to play with friends. You use your cartoon like bombs to blow up your friends often causing lots of laughter as everyone tries to kill their opponents. There is also online play. Konami has also made several updates to the game to add features and new stages. Up to 8 players can play this game on 1 nintendo switch if you have 8 controllers( joy con or pro controllers). The graphics are nice and the music is cute as well

I will judge this game for what it is, rather than its price tag. It certainly is not worth its full cost at $50, but it sure is fun. I'd say wait until it goes on sale (although that's risky because this is a very niche game to begin with, might be hard to find a copy in the long run) If you ever played a bomberman game, you know what to expect. If you have not, it is quite simple. You plop bombs on the ground to destroy structures, collect powerups, and ultimately try to kill everyone else. Last man standing wins. It becomes pure chaos with 8 players and is a blast! It is simple to grasp but difficult to master. With time, you will learn how to optimize power ups and cause chain reactions and strategic placement. But it is also fun for beginners to just go wild and have fun. A fun game with friends and family. Definitely a must buy eventually for any switch owner at a price point you feel comfortable with. It's one of the few multiplayer offerings at the moment.

Bomberman is a classic. But this programming needs a difficulty setting. It’s too tough and you accidentally win - you won’t just win with strategy alone. The main game is tough. But for 20$ it’s a good deal.

Fun single player and multiplayer games! Gets absolutely crazy when you have eight people playing! I've looked at other game reviews and any complaints are usually about the price (normally $50) rather than the game itself. $50 may be too pricey for this game, but definitely jump on it if you can catch it on sale. Mine was a Best Buy purchase when it was on sale for $24.99, so I am totally happy with this game!
