There are only so many words that can describe the immense potential in Super Mario Maker: outstanding, groundbreaking, and sentimental (and this just scratches the surface.) Mario Maker not only allows you to create your own levels from FOUR different Mario Games (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros.,) but it also lets you share and play an endless supply of levels created by the community itself. And let's not forget the implementation of Amiibo in the game (I won't spoil the details.) This game pays for itself in the amount of replay value and creative input each player creates.

If you're a fan of Mario games in general this is a must own title. Even if you have no interest at all in creating levels, this game gives you literally unlimited Mario levels for life. There are thousands of players creating new content daily and it's truly a blast to see what the online community can come up with. Of course if you have a creative spark(and even if you dont) making your own levels is a true joy. Playing, mastering and uploading your own creations for your friends, family and even the world to enjoy can be quite addicting. I gave this game 5 starts because its fun and there is a lot of value for the price.

Super Mario Maker achieves the impossible not by making the act of level creation a game unto itself, but by making it fun again. Just about everyone's played a Mario game at some point in their life, so the rules are simple: make a Mario level. Virtually everything in the Mario level playbook is represented here, and the only limit is truly your own imagination. But the more you play and create in Super Mario Maker, the more you'll get out of it. And it may finally be the game that justifies the wonky Wii U controller. In short, it's the game Wii U owners have been waiting for (that isn't Super Smash Bros.).

Well, not here in this review, but here in terms of Super Mario Maker. I admit, when I first heard about, and even saw previews of this game, I thought -- LAME! I've played since the original Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Play Choice-10 (and on home NES). BUT... It really is quite a fun game. My kids absolutely LOVE it, and I love it because it helps inspire creativity and problem-solving as they design their own levels. Even if you absolutely hate and detest Mario, it's still a good game... but of course major bonus points for the mario fans out there.

I was skeptical about this before it came out, but there's a good amount of content on disc, regular level releases from Nintendo, and the quality of people's created levels is surprisingly high. From levels so easy you don't have to touch the controller, to levels so hard* you'll never want to touch the controller again, there's an almost infinite amount of content to enjoy no matter how good you are at Mario. *A creator has to beat their own level to upload it, so even the hardest levels are at least possible to win.

Prepare to spend countless hours creating, tweaking, and testing all of the tools at your disposal in this wonderful level editor suite from Nintendo featuring the building blocks to create stages of your dreams (as long as they're not too complex) in Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and New Super Mario Bros. U. Prepare to spend even more time unlocking the 100 Mystery Mushroom skins for use in SMB level creation by playing user created levels online in the 100 Mario Challenge. Unfortunately that's where this game's issues arise. As of right now there's too many bad levels clogging up the servers, and on easy.....the most efficient difficulty setting (8 stages per skin) to quickly unlock a certain number of skins before you reach your limit and have to move up to normal (16 stages per skin) it's the most problematic. There's the overly simplistic levels which are to be expected since younger players are uploading their creations. There's stages that have unavoidable death traps if you take a certain path or will start you right off in a sea of enemies. Or those where all you have to do is run, or not press a button at all and you're sent through the level in a virtual mouse trap of sorts (Remember Mouse Trap?) where springs and moving platforms bounce and guide you to the flag pole. And while those stages can be neat depending on how complex their designs are or how close to the time limit they can get you to the goal, no interaction just feels the exact opposite of what Mario should be. There are however plenty of filters and ranking options outside of 100 Mario Challenge where you can find the community's best offerings. There really is some fantastic and creative stages being uploaded, you just gotta sort through the lousy stuff to get to them sometimes. Fun game/tool overall though and defintely worth the purchase if you grew up with the Super Mario Bros. series

Super Mario Maker is a must have for any fans of 2D Mario games. Making levels is very simple and fun and a great way to learn things about Mario games that you never knew were possible. There are a plethora of levels to choose from online however most of the top rated ones are not very engaging. For those who want to spend the time looking online for great stages, this is the way to go. For everyone else avoid the top rated levels and check out the newly posted or featured levels or better yet play 100 mario mode.

Such an incredible game! There are infinite possibilities for Mario now. You don't need an internet connection, but if you do that's where you really maximize your gaming potential. You can create your own levels and upload them for anyone in the world to play! (Level must be beaten by the creator in order to upload). You can play anyone's levels by searching their unique level code, Wii name, or by randomly stumbling upon it during a Mario 100 challenge. I have no clue how Mario can get any better than this!

For anyone who grew up with Super Mario Bros., this is a childhood dream come true. Make your own levels, to challenge your friends... finally a truly creative way to make Mario levels, and in a multitude of Mario eras. But the best part is playing random games online, made from fans all around the world - seeing what puzzles and levels people, even strangers, have made has made this the game the Wii U has been waiting years for! It's very cool and I'm glad Nintendo did it so well.

It's been a while since I've had a game I've played for the entire day that I purchased it. Sitting in a room with friends making levels for each other to play around with, learning all the new intricacies and mechanics. Beautiful game with more potential in terms of updates/patches. In addition to Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc. Why don't you own a WIi U. Nintendo reminds me of why I ever played video games unlike the 360 which was the only console I've owned for the past X years

For Mario fans old and new alike, Super Mario Maker is a must have Wii U title. It is a blast to create your own Mario levels, and your creativity can only be stiffled by your imagination. This game is not strictly for people who like game and level design though. You could play this game everyday and never run out of content from the overwhelming amount of levels uploaded from users across the globe. In short, if you own a Wii U, this title deserves a spot in your library.

This game is a must have if you have always loved Super Mario Brothers. Super Mario Maker was made for you to be creative and create your own Super Mario course using tools ranging from the first Mario game all the way to the New Super Mario Bothers U. Not only can you create courses, you can upload them for others to play and play courses uploaded by other players as well! Pretty much this game has potential to have unlimited courses as long as people keep uploading.

I received this as a gift, and I'm so glad I did! I am a huge Mario fan, but I never thought building Mario levels could be so fun until I actually sat down to play it. I spent several hours pouring more and more detail into the levels I was creating; it's easy to get sucked into this. I also enjoyed playing others' creations and finding inspiration from some of them for my own levels. This is really a game that should not be passed up if you own a Wii U.

My kids love making new levels and putting them on line to get stars when others play them. They have spent dozens of hours with this game. I enjoy trying out the challenging levels others created as well as the challenges built into the game that unlock more items for my kids to use building their levels! Great game to nurture creativity skills for the young ones. Build, try it out, then tweak the level if it's not what they expected.

I really enjoyed this game. You can not only make your own levels (the main point of the game), but you also have the entire world's levels at your disposal to play, rate, and comment on. It gives a great sense of community. I'm only giving it 4 stars due to the lack of checkpoints and the inability to make a full game out of your own levels. In actual Mario games, a concept would be introduced in an early level, and tested later. In Mario Maker, you have to fit the concept and the test into one level if you don't want to confuse and annoy the player. I've poured 20 hours into the game so far, and it is bursting with content. I would recommend this game to almost anyone.

I purchased this game for my nephew as he is a big Mario fan. The interesting part of this game is the ability to create your own Mario levels, which can also be nostalgic for someone like me who grew up in the late 80s early 90s. Playing this game with my nephew, he has had boatloads of fun creating his own levels and then play it. The replay value, in my opinion, is there as there is always new things to discover. However, the rate in which new tools, new themes/levels, etc are unlocked may cause boredom. Despite this, I would still recommend this game for children between 5 - 10 years ago as it will allow them to be imaginative with Mario Maker.

This game is amazing if you like Mario and who doesn't? First of all you can create your own levels. If you only play 5 minutes a day it will take you 9 days to unlock all the different things to create your levels. This however was patched before release and can be sped up by creating levels (no one knows how many blocks need to be placed to speed it up but it does work over time) or you can just adjust your calendar to next day log back in until you unlock it all and then when done put it back to normal. You don't like to create things? Well that's ok too. This game has many levels built right into the game that are of different difficulties that were made by Nintendo. Not only that but people (including yourself) can upload your levels for others to play. This game is truly limitless and will never get old. It has infinite levels as they are created every single day by millions of people (that is my assumption not sure how many people own this game). If you do not own this game do yourself a favor and pick it up. Get it with gamers unlocked card for 47.99 plus tax. You will not regret it. On another note this works with all amiibo! You can place amiibo in ? mark boxes or bricks. They come out as a mushroom with a ? on it and turn Mario into its respected amiibo. You can get really create with this. Make Sonic levels, Zelda levels, Metroid levels with samus...AWESOME! TLDR: BUY THIS GAME!

Super Mario Maker is fun for adults and children alike! Not only does it allow you to make your own supply of Mario mayhem, you can download an endless supply of other people's hard work, and reap the benefits by playing them to your heart's content. You can even edit the levels you download and add you own personal touches. An endless supply of levels to play makes for endless fun!

Mario Maker itself is an excellent concept. Allowing us to create our own levels is a brilliant idea, and It makes the replay value of this game virtually infinite. Where it falls short is in the social aspect. In typical nintendo fashion, sharing levels is weirdly difficult, requiring you to input a 16 digit alpha-numeric code. Outside of that, my only other complaint would be the Nintendo featured levels tend to be automarios, where the level basically plays itself. Impressive as it may be, I don't really think they should be highlighted. Rather, they should reward people for making fair, Mario-like levels.

This game breathes new life into the Mario franchise like never before. If you're a fan of the series, or just enjoy creating worlds in sandbox style games, this is a MUST own for all Wii U owners. The game also provides the most difficult levels the series has ever seen, as most of the content is user created. All in all, a must have for newcomers and Mario veterans alike.
