So glad to have finally played this game! I never played the original but the remake is so faithful to the original that it doesn't matter. It was weird having no voice acting or Nintendo grunting for the characters. Left a bit of cringe when there wasn't any dialogue. Nonetheless the gameplay was smooth and still had an old school feel. The action command in combat wasn't bad either. Had some anxiety during fights but that's what makes the game so much better! And, of course, how could I not mention the music? The composer of the Paper Mario series stepped in and did a fantastic job remastering the music. Especially “fight against an armed boss”. She made the song sound like it came straight out of a Mario and Luigi game that'd be made for switch. Thank you, Nintendo. And thank you Best Buy for delivering!

I never finished the original but couldn't wait yo get my hands on this remake and did not disappoint! The characters really made this game for me. Everyone has well written dialogue and stories behind them. The graphics are bright and colorful. The new score is an improvement on the original without losing the charm. Most of all the gameplay is so fun and engaging. I really love the way you can have different combinations of characters and the triple moves are so fun to watch. Definitely one of my favorite Mario and switch games ever.

Great old school RPG from Square. The graphics are spot on to the original SNES, only with much better quality and higher resolution. This is essentially the same as the original, so if you liked that you'll love this. The graphics can get a bit choppy in places, particularly with many characters on the screen (like the climb to Bean Valley with all the Koopa Troopas). The game is pretty easy, even compared to some of the more modern easy RPGs, which is unusual for the time it was released on SNES. Very similar to later games in the Mario and Luigi series on GameBoy/DS (so much so, I think some of the music is shared/reused). If you've never played the original but enjoy silly fun RPGs then you should definitely play this game.

Perfect nostalgia gut punch. It's an admittedly short game overall, but when we were kids and awful at videogames it was definitely a 30+ hour experience with multiple resets to get certain hidden chests and other things.
Overall the game can probably be beaten within 10 or so hours on normal mode due to the added features (visual cues for action commands and triple attacks) and slightly faster on easy mode (which it really didn't need). If you take the time to 100% everything, it might take 5-6 hours longer depending on how long it takes to get to 100 super jumps. So I think the main downside to the game is the $60 price point. I happily paid it, but for someone new to the game it might seem a little expensive

In 1996 Square, original developers of Final Fantasy, took a stab at making a Mario RPG. Now it has been remastered.
All the quirks and charm, the tone, the oddities, have seemingly come forward. I never played the original, but the feeling of era unmistakable.
Mario Jumps! So we'll need jumping. RPGs have combat, so we'll need our signature turn based random encounters. Platforming and puzzles! Thank goodness! The fights can get old. An odd Isometric camera angle that allows for "3d" interactions.
The game is oodles of odd and creative fun.
Even the bad guys in the Super Mario RPG are playful. Funny in their human problems, it doesn't matter if they are a giant turtle or a disembodied suite of armor that tickle-tortures the town elder. This is a game that knows what it believes and what it wants to offer.
I give it a strong five stars, nearly knocking one for the mass amounts of redundant combat, but if you play JRPGs this will likely be mild.
The game is short by genre standards, respecting your time and only keeping the best stuff. Great mini games and lovely exploration, with a bit too much silly combat.
Have fun!

Once I heard this was being made and released, all my inner child wanted to do was play it. Got it on release day, OH MY WORD!!!! This filled a void left from 1996!!! Story and gameplay are almost identical, with some added goodies in battle mode and cut scenes. Love the new look, and love the added hard mode once the game is beaten the first time. Nintendo was very considerate with allowing the choice of new or original music with this game and simplified the menu options for more detail oriented. My kid is also loving this game as well, as this is her first RPG game. Thank you Nintendo!! This big kid is happy!!

I love how this is the exact game as the 90's, but with better graphics (obviously). The music is remastered, but you can switch the original SNES OST. They also have an easy mode so that you can enjoy this masterpiece without too much stress. Perfectly timed attacks affect all enemies to make the battles go faster is a nice change. Also, timed button presses build up a meter to unleash a powerful attack or boost special to your party.

This a mostly-faithful remake of the 1996 Super Nintendo classic. Graphics are updated in full 3D and the music has been re-arranged, although you can opt to to use the original soundtrack if that floats your boat. To those new to the game, this is a role-playing game that was originally developed by the studio that created the Final Fantasy series of games, so it plays very similarily to that. Only main difference from the original is the addition of team-based special moves and optional boss rematches once you complete the main story. Have fun!

I’ve played the original Super Mario RPG on the SNES many years ago. This remake is absolutely perfect: from the colorful graphics, new gameplay elements, & to be able to alternate between the new soundtrack & the original! It’s faithful to the SNES game & a ton of fun!

I loved the original Super Mario RPG on the SNES. There was a great story. Great visual. Great characters. The humor was a lot of fun, especially with Mario acting out events as he catches other people up on events.
This remake offers that same original experience of Super Mario with some Squaresoft charm and amps it up a bit more. The story scenes, like when you recruit Mallow, are done so much better by bringing the action closer. There's a lot of things to love if you've played the original game. There's a lot to latch on to if you've got no experience with the SNES game.

Nintendo treated this game well. The game has been remade with beautiful graphics and the audio has been remastered perfectly. This version is easier than I remember as a child playing this on the SNES, but the gameplay is still fun and and equally entertaining. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lighter RPG with a solid story mixed with interesting party members.

This is by far one of my favorite games from the SNES! They really captured the greatness it had on the remake. Its a shame Square Enix(Squaresoft) no longer works with Nintendo because they made amazing games together

I played and loved the original game when it came out on the SNES in the 90s. I haven’t played it since, so when they announced the remake, I knew I had to play this. Despite it being easier than I remembered, I still had a great time reliving one of my favorite games of my childhood. All the of the great and quirky characters and moments still hold up well even after almost 30 years.

Super Mario RPG was an all time favorite from my SNES days. I would always play it, or just listen to the music. I love this remake because it stood faithful to the original game, and the music and graphics are wonderful. I also love that they have the original music as an option, though I personally love the remastered versions. Honestly, this is a better version than the original game, and that’s saying something.

This game is a Must Play! for fellow Mario Gamers. It came out Decades Ago and the Game was Amazing back then as it is now. Sadly, it never got any Remastered, Remake or Re-Release. Until now, the story is very Unique, engaging and something truly Great and Refreshing for people that have not played this Mario. You get to Experience a Mario Story like no other. Must Play!
