Brandon Routhe did a great job as portraying Christopher Reeve style of Superman, why couldn’t they go with him as Superman in the man of steel?! Batman couldn’t be Bale because he bailed out,,, Michael Keaton did excellent. Superman returns was a gem... even the same theme song, excellent move. And Lex Luther was played well by Kevin Spacey. Fun great action, thanks Hollywood... unfortunately this was the last live action Superman movie in my collection... sad...

Think of it as a sequel not a reboot.

This is obviously a tribute to Christopher Reeve's Superman rather than a franchise reboot. If you look at it with that perspective, I think you will enjoy the movie a whole lot more. Brandon Routh does a good job in capturing the inflections when switching between Clark Kent and Superman, but it's only an impersonation of Christopher Reeve. Nothing more and nothing less. The plot was predictable but a lot better when compared to Superman III and IV ( can Superman go back in time and wipe those from our memory too ?). Now the CGI work in this movie has it's pros and cons. Overall it had a very artificial look to it. You could tell when characters were altered or "cleaned up". Compared to regular dvd, the blu-ray version is a lot cleaner. Except for a couple of shots, (as Joman called it, ghosting and blur), the resolution is a lot better in blu-ray. The sound was crisp and full as well. I watched this movie back to back with the original Superman in blu-ray, and I was more blown away with that movie than this one. I look forwarded to the true reboot that is coming in 2012.

"Superman Returns" is one of the more underrated superhero films released in the past thirty years. Despite a $391 million worldwide gross, it was considered a disappointment because it didn't have a bigger profit than "Batman Begins." In reality, "SR" grossed more than "BB" but also cost more to make. Still, my point is, audiences obviously showed up for this movie. And it wasn't all that bad. Origin stories, reboots, or reintroductions always seem to necessitate a slower structure than sequels.
If you liked/ loved the Christopher Reeve "Superman" movies, this is best viewed in mind as being the "Real" third Superman movie. Bryan Singer made it as though the Richard Donner movies may have happened, but did not treat anything after "II" as canon.
If you hate the Donner movies, or even feel they are overrated, you will almost certainly hate or intensely dislike this.

This is a great movie. Brandon Routh is not a bad Superman actor. At one moment, when I hear Superman say "Good night, Lois!", he sounds like Christopher Reeve. Unlike Man of Steel, the music included the Superman theme (the John Williams one). The only problem I had with this movie is the scene where Lex Luthor and his thugs were beating up Superman while he's done from being weakened by Kryptonite. It's always bugs me to this very day. Superman is the all powerful Man of Steel and gets beaten up by mere men, how embarrassing. But to be fair, it is common sense that the villain can take advantage when the hero is having a problem from his or her weakness. Overall, it's a fun movie but the one scene with Lex and his thugs beating on Superman, I hate that scene, I always hated that scene. It's the only scene I hate in this movie. If you're a die hard Superman fan or casual movie goer, go for this movie! If you don't like this movie, what is wrong with you?

While I did find Superman Returns to be a very entertaining movie, I also felt that it left me wanting a better explanation of the past 5 years. The movie itself looks amazing in High Definition, and there's plenty of action to keep many fans satisfied, I felt it lacked depth in the plot and storyline. Granted, this was a superhero movie and I know I shouldn't expect that much from it, but that is exactly what I seem to have done.
Anyways, do not go into this movie expecting an amazing plot, but do go with hopes of seeing high quality special effects in HD.

I saw this Movie the day it came out in theaters(And about 5 times more after),and I bought it the first day it came out on DVD.Great Casting, great Acting, beautiful Visuals,Wonerful Music.Every Time I went to see it the movie got applause. If You didn't like this movie that's okay, but you are in the minority.I like the fact the Bryan Singer didn't sell out and make the movie too action oriented(Unlike X-men 3,which was fun,but had more action than story.).I like the fact that Singer made the movie in tribute to Donners two Superman Films, and yet the movie was a sequel within itself and having it's own mysterious continuity for future sequels that are coming.Brandon Routh was worth the long wait for a new Superman Movie,as he Portays Superman as the strong, yet angelic figure that I had always seen him as.It is hard to deny that he has Christopher Reeve's Smile, and his Voice, but he puts his own soft spoken spin on Superman that was refreshing as he was not trying to take too much from Reeves. His Clark Kent is right on the money,as the bumbling, shy Reporter that Lois Lane barley even looks at or barely has the time to say "Hi" to (Which Explains way Lois Lane Herself is easly fooled by Superman's Simple wearing of thick Glasses and three Piece Suits.).Kevin Spacey is so Good as Lex Luthor for the straight out reason that his Character gets darker as the movie goes on.Lois Lanes Son,Jason,is Adorable (Allergies and all).Lois Lanes Fiancee,Richard White, is the man that at first you are hoping has many Character flaws, but turns out to be a good man,who is a hero on his own.Kate Bosworth was great aswell ,but many people felt that her Lois Lane lacked the spunk that was brought to the table by her predecessor Margot Kidder,I feel however that she did a great job as the Lois Lane that is stuck between a rock and a hard place(She Loves Superman, but is so very hurt and Angry at the fact that he left Earth and she had to move on like everyone else, and then boom! Superman is back in her life.)After all she still does Display Lois Lanes Workaholic attitude very well.Another Minor Character that got alot of attention was Kitty,Lex Luthors Girlfriend, who is just so fun to watch for some reason. All the Other Supporting Characters like Jimmy Olsen ,and Perry White are done well.In all the movie is great, and and well Casted. The Actors are phenomenal at showing much deeper emotion going on behind their eyes(Hat goes of to Bosworth and Routh.)Critics and Fans on Average liked it,and some People wanted more action as the emotional struggle going on within went over their heads.Thank You Bryan Singer for not selling out the man of steel with the typical jingling of the keys that most Superhero movie Directors use(Explosions and Lazers right of the bat etc.)This movie has a much deeper scope in the end( As we realize that Superman is no longer alone in the world). Can't wait for the Sequel!

Superman: The movie redux

There were many problems with this movie, the biggest one being that it was, beat for beat, a redoing of the first Superman movie. Everyone from every country knows who Superman is. We don't need the introduction.
What this movie did right though, is introduce him to a modern audience and modern times. While the movie, as a whole, is underwhelming, it was set up nicely for a sequel that, it seems, will never come because like the Hulk franchise, DC plans on rebooting this character. Still, it's a nice movie and if you're a fan, you should've pass it up.

The movie was pretty well made, the acting was good, and Brandon Routh was a perfect choice to play the fated man of steel! He looked a little like Christopher Reeve, the best Superman out there, besides Dean Cain, which definitely helped his cause!
Great action sequences, mixed with beautiful flying shots made this an a+ movie in my book. If you haven't added this movie to your dvd collection, or at least seen it, definitely do, and if you like it as much as I did, you won't be sorry about having it in your collection for years to come.

IT was true to Supermans purity and selflessness. Superman was heroic, kind, strong. The Graphics were great. The similarities between the story of Christ and Superman was not only appropriate, but appreciated, they follow the same archetypical type. Best Super hero, and Best super hero movie, ALL TIME. There wasnt enough action for some, but that is to be expected in a introductory movie where LEX LUTHOR a mortal is the main villain. Action, without story, is a michael bay film.
