Bandai Namco's Tales team decided to go in a different direction with the seriew and they delivered. A high production action RPG with an amazing battle system and cutscene. I'll miss some old things that were in previous games, but the positives in this title outweight. I look forward to seeing what the team does next for the series.

    #1 Tales Game?

I started the Tales of Series a few years ago and I absolutely love it. I own 4 titles. It’s a little bit early to tell because I’m only 20 hrs into it but it will definitely rank up there with Vesperia for sure. It could easily become the #1 Tales game. The graphics are amazing, the Skits are Manga-style and the characters are unique. The fighting hasn’t changed a whole lot as far as how you input commands but the artes have some spectacular fireworks and massive explosions. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds!

Bought this game back in February but I didn't started on it until about a month ago and I must say...out of all the Tales games I've played (Symphonia, Vesperia, Zestiria, Berseria, currently playing through Abyss), this one is perhaps the best I've ever played. Finished it after 70+ hours and I do plan to play through the post game content at some point afterwards. The game is a must have for fans of the Tales of games.

I will preface this by saying it would sit more between a 3.5/5 considering I've played previous Tales games and other JRPGs. The good: This is a gorgeous game and the money put into the game definitely shows in the graphics, voice acting, music (sorta) and changes to combat. There was a lot of time dedicated to these areas. The effects with attacks and environments are without a doubt the best the Tales series has seen so far. Everything looks grand, from the dense tropical forests, mountain ranges, oceans, to even the dungeons. They had a budget for the orchestra and they definitely used it. With voice actors like Ray Chase among many others you had great talent as always. The combat is probably the best it's ever been. In prior games you would have SP/mana/etc that is consumed when using any artes, whether combat or healing. This would be a bit of a slog because you would then find yourself in trouble when you are running on empty and low on items. This time around use combat artes to your hearts content (as long as you have enough AG). Healing artes are now relegated to CP so you can at least keep things separated. The combat stays fast and fun, incorporating ground artes, aerial artes for EVERYONE, boost gauge attacks for specific situations and enemies, along with team attacks to finish off enemies in the most glorious of ways. Oh and mystic artes. They're there. The bad and ehh: While the game is a treat to look at and listen to, I feel like that is where a large priority went to with the developers. The story is definitely lackluster compared to previous games. Character development is oftentimes rushed through or glossed over by the story. Skits do a decent job in fleshing it out but after a while you're going to HATE seeing that button pop up. Especially near the last 3rd of the game you're going to wonder if you're playing a game or watching it. With 5-6 regions, it feels like there were many missed opportunities to do more with the party. By the end of the game you feel like you just got to know them, especially with one main party member. You'll feel like you know their struggles but nothing more about them or their past. The game also borrows a lot of ideas from prior Tales games (cough Symphonia). The music is grand. Maybe too grand. Like I said previously they had an orchestra and they definitely used it. But unlike other JRPGs I feel like Motoi Sakuraba just abused it this time. There is a time and place for crescendos, choirs, and all that. But not when you're running through a lush jungle, or the beginning area where you're in a mountain. It just doesn't fit and many of the overworld tracks will just blend together in different variations. I don't even recall a specific track that sticks in my head after 90+ hours of playing. Last but not least, regarding the skits, did ANYONE check the localization and grammar? I lost count of how many times there were typos and grammatical errors on the screen. With the plethora of skits and events you'll have to read through you might be better off turning off subtitles (unless you're listening to the Japanese VA). Overview: This was a game I wanted to enjoy. The first few hours were fun and the characters were a joy. There was definitely effort in polishing this game in the looks, sounds and gameplay department. But I felt like there was too much in the wrong areas and too little in others. Near the end I just wanted to get to the ending and shelf this game. I felt...disappointed in a sense. Great game, but wait for it to go on sale.

Long time "tales of" series fan here. Tales of Arise keeps the witty banter, instanced action-based combat, and colorful world that defines the series, but brings it up to next gen console standards. I loved my time with it, and would say it stands its ground against the best titles in the series such as Abyss, Symphonia, and Eternia.

This game has been a blast. Great graphics and gameplay. In my personal opinion the story is so so and mostly forgettable. As a completionist, the time spent trying to accomplish all quests before progressing the main story felt underwhelming. To clarify, even completing all side quests, there is a fair amount of grinding needed to progress the main story. Not a terriblegame flaw, just an observation that the difficulty is steep, and to the grind you will go.

Game is great but best buy botched preorder and never gave me my dlc for it and it was a nightmare trying to get the dlc. had to get a written email from bestbuy manager to send to bandai namco manager and then took about 48 hours to receive. Buy the game as it is great, but dont trust bestbuy with your preorders.

It's an okay game. Was excited to start playing, but it's not what I was expecting. I'll probably play it again one day, but not anytime soon. I would recommend it; just because I don't enjoy it, doesn't mean someone else won't.

This is a great tale series so far. Tale of Arise is the same tales series that all we know with a new engine that boots the series into another level. The gameplay is enjoyable, the story is not the best, but a decent one, but huge graphic improve make Tales of Arise is a must have for JRPG fan.

One of the best entries to the series yet! I can say without a doubt that I enjoyed every minute of the gameplay, from battles, to fufilling quests, to the character interactions along with the overall story. This was certainly a treat to long time fans, and it could easily welcome new fans too.

My wife and I have an understanding and a division. We both enjoy gaming. She has her games and I have mine. The Tales series is hers. She enjoyed this entry enough she made me buy it again when I traded it in after she beat it the first time. Oops.

These games are always fun, the characters talk in English, which makes the game even better, the battles are fun, but the only downside it is only 1 player, I miss the 4 player battles, I highly recommend this game.

Its been a long time since i felt this way about a game, i enjoyed every second of it. It was honestly too short, it felt weird beating it at auch a low level and i wish it had a few more challenges. But over all i loved this game reguardless.
