If you're in love with having everything portable, then this is probably the version for you. But, if you're like me, and have a choice as to what version you can play- choose the other versions. The PS4 and PC are much better in terms of performance. The Switch version of this game is notably lacking in color depth as well as shading and texture quality, which is surprising because the game was originally on the Xbox 360. The game is locked to 30 FPS outside of combat, and 60 FPS in combat. And this is noticeable. Bouncing between 60 and 30 FPS is jarring and creates an uncomfortable experience when going through dungeons where there's a battle every other second. The game itself is classic Tales. This is probably one of the few Tales games that I highly recommend as the story, characters, and combat are all top notch. As all Tales games, the characters do fall into their classic tropes, but I feel like with this it's at least obfuscated by the interesting story and decent (if not awesome) voice acting. The characters feel alive and the world feels lived in. Overall, Tales of Vesperia was deserving of this re-release as not many people got to play the original on the Xbox 360. Still, do yourself a favor and play it on the PS4 or PC where it will maintain 60fps and look gorgeous while doing it.

Good but the multiplayer design is lacking

I enjoyed what I've played of this game so far. The problem is, my girlfriend did not. I've been desperately looking for something we can both play together, and this caught my eye for it's ability to have multiplayer. The problem is, it falls flat on it's face with absolutely no explanation on how it works. Granted we figured it out in a few minutes of online searching, but still, it should be more apparent. During battles, the camera follows just the primary character. If other characters fall out of frame... oh well. Even if it wasn't multiplayer, the camera should pan out and pan to include all players and NPCs in frame. She couldn't see her character, or what she was doing, meanwhile I was getting ganged up on, and eventually died, along with our interest in playing this in multiplayer mode. That being said, as a single player game, it holds quite a bit of my interest. It plays something similar to Ni No Kuni and Lightning Returns (FF13-3), leaning much close to Ni No Kuni minus the familiars(think pokemon) stuff. The story seems fun, and the battle system is relatively straight forward. For the price I paid I would highly recommend it for someone looking for a color RPG. I haven't run into the voice acting issue others have mentioned, but I can be pretty obvious to that stuff, as it matters little to me for games I'm not super vested in.

A new classic remade, looks great on the switch and plays well especially since its now portable and easily played anywhere. Newcomers will enjoy a fun battle system and story line to pass the time.

Lots of hours of fun for this one for any fan of RPG's. This is more of an action based fighting style and not the turn based style you see in most other games of the similar genre. The length is pretty hefty and you will have a blast with the compelling story and characters you meet along the way. Lots of voiced lines and the fact that you can take this game with you wherever you go is a huge plus! One of the best Tales games and feels right at home on the Switch. A must buy for sure!

this is an action rpg out of japan, so you know what to expect from the combat. the seller is the story, which is one of the best tales of games to come out and has aged wonderfully from its first release on the xbox 360. the only odd thing is the little cutouts talking to eachother, but there are LOTS of voiced lines, more than they could animate and these are optional during exploration that shine more light onto the characters

The long-awaited Complete Version of Tales of Vesperia! It feels SO GOOD to finally have a lot of costumes to unlock, finally lots of sidequests to find out when you replay, finally a lot of optional content and bosses. I feel like this game gave me everything I wanted "more of" Tales of Symphonia. The characters are overall pretty good, Yuri put a great dynamic with the team and each character feels very distinct. Battle Wise the game is more clunky in first few hours than most tales of, but open up much more in the end, which gives a fantastic sense of progression through the game and in the challenge keeps up, to max level in the endgame challenges. Add to that 9 playable characters and you have the most diverse cast and a lot to learn if you want to vary your play style. Story-wise it's pretty simple, it's mostly about people figure it out and an adventure in the classic sense, it wasn't as groundbreaking as other tales of, but serviceable. As most tales of you can still have fantastic couch multiplayer, expect great replayability from the NG+, unlocked difficulties, numerous Ex dungeons, and lots of things to unlock. If for some reason you don't like anime or JRPG in general, just pass on this game, for the other just buy it.

I didn’t get a chance to play Vesperia when it released 10 years ago, so I’m very glad that Vesperia Definitive Edition is available for all consoles, & that I & many others can now experience it! It’s considered by most Tales of fans to be one of the best entries in the series, and at about 20 hours in a of playing, I’d agree so far! While it shows it’s age in some aspects (camera mainly, but some graphical parts), it’s a solid game that overall has held up nicely over the years. It works fine in handheld version too, and haven’t noticed any dips in the 60 FPS for combat, & 30 FPS while not in combat. The load times are quick between battles & new locations, few seconds at most. The battle system is solid, & allows for players to make it as simple or complex as wanted. The voice work (both ENG & JP) is great with strong performances. So far the characters are all very likeable & seem to have depth to them. The protagonist,Yuri Lowell is neat from the start intrigued me. Tales of Vesperia DE is a great game that any JRPG fan should check out!

This is the best version of Tales of Vesperia to get as it includes content previously unreleased outside of Japan including an entirely new party member. It was originally an Xbox 360 title so it looks and runs great on the Switch and this is the best option if you like to play games while travelling.

Great game play, story, and over all game... I played this game back on 360 and I gotta say its perfect for the switch. It comes with all of the extra content (some of which was only released in japan) and is perfect for on the go.

One of the best Tales marred by a few annoyances

Vesperia DE is the long awaited PS3 version fans wanted the last 10 years packed with extras the 360 version didnt have. For a game 10 years old, it hold up pretty well regarding gameplay and it cast of characters. The annoyances come from primarily two things. One is the English audio. There can be some jarring voice shiftsduring scenes between the original Voice actors and the replacements for the new scene. Even some of the returning actors don’t always capture the original tone used for their characters. Additionally, new skits have poor audio mixing . My second issue comes from the fact that during the various battles, you’ll come to notice that the enemy the player targets have a strong tendency to run around the battlefield doing nothing. This causes the normal battles to be dragged out longer than normal as you chase them around the battlefield and usually this bug (as it wasn’t present inVesperia’s past iterations) won’t stop until you switch targets, something that is impossible if you’ve managed to kill the other enemies. All told I’m quite satisfied playing this enhanced classic barring a few other miscellaneous annoyances here and there.

While it is a remaster, this is a superb game and it’s cell shaded graphics have held up well. One of fun, decent voice acting and a good story make for a quality experience. I highly recommend this.

Bought this since it was on sale and I thought I might want to replay through it since I could carry it around and be portable. Graphics on the game aren't as good as the original and for sure not not as close to the PC version. The grind is real for this, but if you're playing a JRPG, then you probably like the grind. Personally, I put a few hours into it and didn't want to continue. If it's your first time playing through it, it's a pretty good game but it wasn't worth replaying through for me even on the go.

Ok so i played through most of this game back on the 360 when it came out. The story is mostly unchanged, except for the additional character's story. The only thing that surprised was the dlc, yes they said it would have all the dlc; but i thought it just meant the outfits and extra weapons. The thing that shocked me was that it also had all of the cheat dlc to make the game easier for people who just wanted to get the story. I can't say that really adds or takes anything from the game, but if anyone is on the fence because of the difficulty or the large amont of grinding for levels then you be fine.

This has and will always be my favorite tales game. So much so that I actually have played the japanese version of the game. I cannot even begin to express how wonderful it is to finally be able to play this game in English. The story is engaging, the characters are well developed, and the gameplay is fun. It is also fantastic to have this portable! One thing to note, there are two voice actors for every character if you choose English as a language. It's not enough to take you out of the story, but if you're a longtime fan of the game it may seem a bit jarring at first.

This rerelease of this Xbox 360 Tales game is a fun action RPG following a likable cast of characters going on an ever-expanding quest. The setting is bright and colorful, and the story never goes to places that push the game beyond standard RPG/anime storytelling tropes, but what here is good enough to enamor players through to the end. The game runs perfectly fine on Switch and looks, sounds, and plays as one might expect a last-gen game should.

The tales of series is a lengthy one, and this is one of their most popular and well-loved entries and for good reason. This game is huge and has all the things you would want in a JRPG, a good story, compelling characters and a good fighting mechanic. While sometimes it gets grindy, it is fun and just feels right at home on the nintendo Switch. So if you are looking for a JRPG game to sink lots of time into, THIS is the game for you.

For those of you who played Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360 a decade ago, this is a prime opportunity for some nostalgia. The game has been graphically remastered, and story material previously only present in the Japanese-only PS3 version is now available to everyone, plus a healthy amount of fun cosmetic options for the main characters. If you like the Tales series, or just want a good RPG, this is a good choice.

The story is pretty generic for an RPG, band of outsiders has to save the world from a world ending clamity/psychopath, but adds interesting layers to the story. The characters all really grow over the story and it was nice to see all their developments come to fruition. The combat in this game might get boring and repetitive after a few hours and also seem simple, but they do a good job of adding new layers to try and freshen it up. Whether it be new characters or new mechanics. Overall liked the game, but it doesn't do anything special and feels very dated, mostly because it is a remaster of a game that came out in 2007.

So I never got around to really getting into this game when it originaly released years ago, So here we are again & boy! Did I miss out! But hey i’m glad they re-leased this so here we go. Graphics have been cleaned up a bit & the story is interesting enough to keep you in it. Last, but most importantly the gameplay/battle system is the still good enough to stand up today. Enjoy!
