Not for everyone, but definitely for me.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game has been out on other platforms for quite some time, however this new version for switch is fantastic. This includes the remake/remaster Rebirth, as well as both of the current DLC packs: Afterbirth and Afterbirth+. The game itself is somewhat difficult to explain... at its heart, Isaac is a dungeon crawling game. Unlike many games nowadays, when you die you lose everything and start over from the first floor of the dungeon, with the dungeon changing every time. And trust me, you will die. To help you along the way, you find items that usually help, but also may sometimes hinder you. With hundreds of items available, a large part of the fun is finding new items, discerning what they do, and then how they interact with other items. For instance, a bent spoon will psychically guide your shots towards enemies, and a robotic eye will exchange your shots for a laser; combined, you now have a laser that twists and turns to run through enemies. There is an item that causes you to explode when you use it, damaging both yourself and objects around you, and another object that causes explosions to heal you; together, you are able to heal yourself as well as just walk up to enemies and begin blowing them up. The subject matter is not light. Your character is a crying child named Isaac, who is running away from his mother after she has been commanded by God to kill Isaac. The items, enemies, bosses, etc all revolve around death, filth, religion, abortion, and drug paraphernalia. This is not intended for children, despite the game being available on a Nintendo platform. As I mentioned before, each time you die you restart the game. However, not all is lost every time. Each time you go through the dungeon, as you kill more bosses, pick up more items, defeat more enemies, etc. you are making progression, unlocking more floors to be available and more items can show up, as well as a litany of characters to play as on future runs. There are also many convoluted ways to beat the game for those that enjoy it enough to seek them out. The switch only makes this game better, able to take it on the go on the fly, drop-in and drop-out co-operative gameplay for up to 4 players, and able to simply place the console to sleep to continue later (a "run" through the dungeon can sometimes take up to an hour). It is very pick up and play friendly, as depending on your skill and luck you could blow through a run in 20 minutes or less. I do notice some technical issues that I did not experience when playing on the Vita (Rebirth only, this version is my first experience with the DLCs). For instance, there is an item called "No. 2" that causes you to drop a fecal bomb (told you it can be gross...) after firing for 5 consecutive seconds. When that bomb explodes, a cloud covers the current room you're in, damaging all enemies. When that or other full-screen effects happen, the framerate dips dramatically. It is sort of helpful in the moment to moment gameplay, as you are able to dodge attacks almost like you're Neo from The Matrix, but it is not intended and is most certainly a performance issue. I have also had an issue with a particular enemy's AI, where it will jump to the corner of the room and just sit there. Sometimes there are rocks in that corner, and I do not have a way to get to the enemy to kill it, locking me in that room. The game has a built-in fail-safe for events like this, opening the room after no damage is done to either enemy or player after so much time. Still, what fun is it to sit there and wait 1 or 2 minutes doing nothing? You also do not get a reward for clearing the room, and have to redo the room if you end up having to walk back through. Those issues aside, I have had a great time with the game on the Switch. I recommend looking up videos of the gameplay before diving in head-first, but if you like what you've read then I say take the leap.

I've never played a game this long
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original binding of isaac and its expansions were a masterpiece. It gained so much popularity that it spawned a remake. This is that remake. The Binding of Isaac provides countless hours of entertainment. Personally i own the game on 3 different platforms and have easily played over 400 hours of this game in total. There is so much to unlock, so many items, bosses, endings, achievements, etc that I have barely 52% completion on my most played game file. This is a game that will certainly provide you with enough to get your money out of it. At 40 dollars and a launch title for a new platform I highly recommend picking this game up as soon as you possibly can.

A Great Rougelike shoot em up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been familiar with The Binding of Issac for years but I never got around to playing it simply because physical versions of games are my personal preference. So when I saw it was getting a Physical release I finally jumped on it! (Also the little sticker packs and retro style game manual just seal it for me) Each dungeon run you do is randomly generated every time so the challenge is always there. Sometimes you get a level boss in a tiny room making it near impossible to dodge attacks, other times youll find amazing powerups that can make a level boss completely easy. But the further you go the more difficult it will become regardless and there are no saves unless you exit your current game and come back to it later so once you die THATS IT you lose all your progress and its back to level 1. You will die quite a bit when you first start playing it and will get frustrated, but if you can stick with it youll find yourself getting a little further and doing a little better each time and this makes replaying the game really fun! Overall Binding of Issac is a fun little time waster that works great on Switch because it makes it a blast in portable or tv mode to play a run, stop at a certain point if your doing well, and come back to it later. I do think its a bit overpriced currently at 40$ if you have GCU like me that certainly helps. But if your the type of person that enjoys trial and error and overcoming obstacles in games for the satisfaction then this is for you.

A very deep and rewarding game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've actually purchased this game 3 times so far. Once on the Playstation 4 and Vita with crossbuy, Once on the PC through Steam, and Once on my Nintendo 3DS. I've have put over 100+ hours into this game through my 3 available options. I prefer the New 3DS and PS4. The 3DS because of the size of the screen and PS4 because it has AfterBirth. This game is completely new every time you pick it up. You will probably die alot, but that's ok because you get to start a new game and experience a whole new dynamic of gameplay. This game has so many secrets and secret bosses, that I just can't get enough of this game. The fact that they are putting in all the expansions and it is now officially a launch Switch Launch game makes the Switch all the more sweeter to me. I only need Zelda and Isaac and I will be a very pleased Switch owner till the end of the year. After the very disappointing Switch presentation by Nintendo last week, I needed some good news about my pre order and this is what I was looking for.

Simple gameplay, AMAZINGLY fun
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game: Wow. Can't believe how incredible it really is. I picked this up when I got my Nintendo Switch, and I knew very little about this game other than the fact that it was quite popular. When I finally sat down to play it, I originally thought I had just wasted $40. But thankfully, I didn't give up. The reason I thought this at first was because of the learning curve. Wow, the game is VERY difficult at first. But I noticed each time I tried again, it got a little bit easier every time. It's the learning curve of this game and all the different items you can pick up that will overwhelm you at first. But stick with it. You'll get better, I promise. Eventually you might even defeat the main boss at the end. I sent a text to several of my friends when I finally defeated the final boss, just because it was such a huge feat.

Surprising Find
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I heard only a little about this game prior to purchase, and at first was skeptical about it. I decided to give it a chance anyway, and was not disappointed. The game is fun to pick up and play for both short bursts and long sittings. Each run is different and challenges players to explore and discover new secrets. and items. This in turn providing a rather surprising amount of replay value. I'd compare gameplay to something like arcade action Robotron 2084 meets dungeon crawling 2d zelda.

Best Switch Game that isn't Zelda
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried nearly all the Switch games out so far and this is the first to get me to not play Zelda. So much fun! I never tried Afterbirth before and wow am I in love. The portability on the Switch pairs really nicely with this game.

So much content~!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a game for people who enjoy roguelike, randomly generated, permadeath games. If those types of games aren't your thing, stay away. If they interest you at all, this is a great one. The creepy atmosphere isn't my favorite, but the sheer mechanics and variety of items, characters, enemies, and situations makes it an absolute blast to play. Even after you've played your heart out of the main mode (which is impossible due to the infinite number of possibilities and difficulty it achieves!) you have a huge number of challenges to attempt, as well as the daily online leaderboard in which to compete. Very fun, very addictive, and very full of content.

Fantastic Port
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've played this game on steam, as well as its predecessor, and I absolutely love it on the Switch. It actually operates really well as a handheld game. Two other people own it in my home, and we often compete to see who is better. I absolutely recommend this game if you're a fan of it already, or even if you want something new to experience!

Incredible Indie Title
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Binding of Isaac is probably my favorite indie title next to Shovel Knight in the last few years, possibly just favorite title in general. 400+ hours across the series on different platforms I'm excited to own a physical copy of the game.

Very different game... which is why it's great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first time playing this game on any console and so far it has been a lot of fun. It brings back memories of the early Zelda game with a very strange twist.... It's definitely not for kids, but overall I am having a lot of fun with it. Hardcore only
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If i were stuck on an island and could only choose one game, it would be this one. Mainly because at 80-90hrs in i have never had the same experience twice. The rabbit hole just gets deeper and deeper.
