One of the best series. I just started re-watching this because my fiance has not seen it, crazy that is what I thought. Plus I only made it through season 3. If you have not picked up this series first it isn't for children but it is a great thrilling series for adults.

This review is less about the disc contents than it is about the show itself. First, the contents themselves are well mastered; the picture and sound are excellent. The special features give a lot of good back story about the characters, and the FBI unit. I haven't watched them all or in their entirety, but, the few minutes I did watch are worthwhile. What makes this program is the casting, the writing, and the concept behind it all. James Spader plays a creepy guy. He is not so much a "criminal mastermind" as a "criminal mastermind's, criminal mastermind". He has been wanted for 20 years, then just walks into an FBI office to give himself up. Why? Well, that is not clear; but, it is clear that he has an agenda; and wants the FBI to help him carry it out. He has a list of really nasty people who he is willing to give up; in return, he has some conditions: He will talk/work with only one agent; freedom of action; etc..
The reasons are never given; but, clues are sprinkled throughout the episodes. There is a great element of never knowing where, or what, or why some of the villains he gives up to the FBI. The producers keep a great element of suspense and mystery in all the episodes. James Spader is having great fun as a villain; all these combine to give us a great program. Season 1 is the start; Season 2 will give up a little more; who knows what the next few seasons will have? Only more good stuff, is my opinion. Buy this season! I cannot recommend it enough!

I got hooked on the blacklist halfway through the first season. Unfortunately at that point the first two episodes were not available online or on demand anywhere! I continued on with the show knowing I was missing a few key pieces. When the DVD was released I held back hoping for a sale. I was so excited when this went on special during black friday weekend! I have since rewatched all of the episodes and i'm counting down for the season to start after the superbowl!!!
John Spader is an awesome character and the entire plot of this show sucks you in and makes you countdown until the next episode airs!!!! I love going back and forth with my friends who also watch on what is going to happen next!

FYI, this is a new series about a former CIA agent who went dark at a dynamic point in his life and turned into a state secret selling lone wolf. He has broken untold numbers of federal laws and is one of the top 10 most wanted. In the first episode he turns himself and says he will help government catch other top most wanted as long as he only deals with a certain female agent. Every episode centers on him helping catch one of the most wanted. His character in this series is extremely interesting and you will have a hard time defining him as hero or villain. Can't wait for season 2 to start (immediately after super bowl)

There are aspects of Chuck and My Name is Earl at play here, but it's still fresh enough to enjoy. James Spader spends much of season one as the puppet/chessmaster-moving the agents around like pawns on a board we can't see. His end game is far from being revealed, but it's fun to watch him swoop in each week, deliver a robust speech and slip away with what he wants, much to the frustration of Liz.

Blacklist is no doubt a great TV series that will keep you in suspense as well as make you want to watch the next episodes. There is some gory stuff in this show (poking pen in jugulars, acid baths that dissolve humans, etc) so I wouldn't want any body under 18 watching it or anyone who is squeamish. But there is a reason why this show continued to a following up series currently being shown on NBC.

The Blacklist is one of the best series on television. James Spader is an incredible actor who plays the role of Raymond Reddington perfectly – no one better suited for this role. Fabulous acting and story writing in this made for TV drama. So many twists and turns in this series, never know what to expect next. Love, love, love this series!

Spader does some of his best work in this series. He can play someone you should despise, but somehow you root for his character. He does go after his own interests, but he is making the world a better place. Lots of twists and mysteries esp when trying to figure out the husband's character and who is spying on the couple.

Exciting, insightful as to what may really be going on in the USA in many aspects of conspiracy theories .Spader is a seasoned well-versed actor who plays his part in the series with wit,,realism and just a superb performance of his character. It is an addictive TV series that I look forward to each episode.

My wife and I watched this last year and loved it. She had major surgery and wanted this to watch while recovering. Just when you think you have it all figured out, it changes and you don't have it figured out. Spy. Espionage. Bad guys. Good guys. Great actors. Very good story plot. Just an over all great show. A must watch.

Season One is something new and unlike other crime shows. A well written deep plot story line. Actors are really good with their characters. Black List is refreshingly new. Season One does not disappoint. Everything written in Season One gears towards Season Two. Well worth the money. I got mine on sell at $20.

The Blacklist was without a doubt my favorite new series of the past year. Each individual episode is a thrill ride in and of itself, and there is definitely some intriguing developments that keep the entire season exciting. James Spader is probably the best he's ever been, and steals just about every scene he is in.

If you're into spy movies, twists and dry humor, this show is perfect for you. James Spader plays Reddington to perfection and makes you want to see him more and more on screen. The rogues' gallery of villians from his 'Blacklist' are interesting and rarely one dimensional. Highly recommended.

WOW - this is such a great TV series - and James Spader makes it all happen and worthwhile - his voice - his command of the situation - cold hearted - gets the job done and gets dirty doing it - it has to be one of the best new TV series ever.

Mr. Spader shines (of course) but supporting cast members are excellent as well - my particular favorite (and not enough of him in Season Two) was Tom...a/k/a Ryan Eggold. Wishing, as always, for more commentaries, extras, making of...etc.

I didn't watch this when it was on, but a number of my co-workers did. They all loved it. I finally got it and it lived up to the hype. It is a fun show and James Spader is wonderful in it. I recently found out that my aunt loves this show too!

The story lines are good and keep you wanting more, although at times a bit predictable ( but what show isn't ). James Spader continues to shine with his portrayal of Red Reddington. His confidence and his comments alone are worth watching the show. This is one of those shows that keeps you wanting more. It keeps your interest and very rarely has a lull that makes you want to change the channel to check the score of a game or something. Well worth it especially with the lack of commercials.

I love this show. Season one really sets up a lot of stuff. Has some amazing characters, and James Spader, of course is just awesome. You should absolutely watch this.
The reason it's getting 3 instead of 5 stars is because the bluray set that I'm reviewing is a bit lackluster. First of all, stacking discs directly on top of one another in the box is one of the more annoying setups. There's 5 discs and they're stacked 2 on one side and 3 on the other. There are worse ways to box these things, but this is pretty bad.
The menus manage to be bland with 4 options sitting beneath the cover picture and yet annoying at the same time. When you select an option the options all move instead of the cursor moving to highlight a different one. This might not be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that it looks very static. So it's not obvious what's happening at first. And to make things worse, they've adopted the abominable approach of listing all the episodes and special features in the menus on every disc even when they're only available on one of them. Incredibly annoying.
Finally, the special features are almost non-existent. Come on, guys. Give us more than a couple of commentary tracks. Give us some cast and crew content, some deleted scenes, a gag reel, SOMETHING to make it worth buying the discs rather than just watching this stuff on Netflix. Right now I'm feeling a bit like I wasted my money when I'm already paying for Netflix.

James Spader is the only one who could do this role. He has just the right expressions and talent to pull off the dark humor he brings to the show. The other characters add a lot but the focus is much on Jame's character Red Reddington.
