If you are a Maiden fan, chances are you'll pick this up regardless of what anybody says (and you should!). This cd is a monster. Two disks. All super long songs (several over the 10 Minute mark, one being their longest song to date -- 18 minutes!)
For me, I love the super progressive direction Maiden has taken lately. I love music like that. There's always a ton to soak in and it never gets old. Its more "mature sounding". Upon my first listen of "Book of Souls", I found myself loving the material (make sure you follow along with the lyrics! Always helps with monstrous songs).. but after my first listen, it was draining. I had to put it down. And Im only able to listen to it once per day. I knew instantly it was going to be one of those cds that takes time to "soak in" completely. (a grower). It wasn't a bad cd by any means, I freaking loved it! But it wasn't one of those cds that I instantly had to hit repeat and listen to it 50 more times right there on the spot.
For me, these kinda cds take time for me to grow attached to and absolutely love and listen to over and over. And thats just simply me. There is A TON of stuff there to absorb.
But by anyways, by all means---- GO OUT AND GET IT!!!

I was happy to have this CD on hand to keep me company on a long drive. I think this is a good CD, not their best, but a good album never less. I'm not sure if the album tops their last Studio effort, but I am still listening and I find that their albums grow on me over time. A few things that I have heard:
This to me is a album that leaves some of the blemishes on the album. I'm not one that supports perfection, but I do hear some things from time to time which draws my ear to them. I won't get into what and which songs these are, but I think it was left raw, possibly due to Bruce's cancer, but not everything I hear is from Bruce. This does not detract from the strength of the album in my opinion. This is just an observation. They are still a gifted band and this album rocks!

EYE cannot wait to see what songs they pick for upcoming tour

I've been a Maiden fan forever and have enjoyed hearing them evolve throughout the years while maintaining that music writing formula that sets them apart from every other band and makes them recognizabe. This album is no different, you get fresh new music with the classic Maiden feel. One thing though is that this album has taken me several listens to get into but I find myself liking it more and more every day! Not sure if it will end up being as classic as some of their other recent albums but only time will tell.

As Bruce Dickinson said on the Brave New World tour, "We're a f*cking prog rock band now!" Well, OK, it's not exactly Hemispheres, but it is pretty epic. And like most of Maiden's other material since the return of Bruce and Adrian Smith, it retains that basic Maiden-ness as the songs get longer and more sophisticated. Time will tell where this album ends up in the Maiden pantheon, but after a few listens, it's holding up nicely.

Iron Maiden's finest in years

Iron Maiden's finest record in years. There is a lot of references to a mix between Somewhere in Time, Number of the Beast, and Powerslave. For me this blows away their last two records, and you will definitely get your money's worth as this record is well over an hour long and some songs range from 8 minutes to 16 minutes. Bottom line is you will not be disappointed, even if you are a beginner in the heavy metal scene.

Maiden has returned in epic fashion. This new incarnation of eddie will have you thinking back to the wonder years. Some may even say Bruce's voice is on its last day but I must attest that even to this iron of a day, he haunts you still with his melody and brilliance. Hope to see more outta these guys sooner that the every 3-4 years. Time can catch up to all of us. Until then, Up The Irons!!!!

Iron Maiden is unable of making a poor album. Unfortunately Book of Souls falls short of being up there with their classics. Maiden has always had long songs, but with some songs pushing twenty minutes it can be a little bit much. I'm sure Maiden fans already own this, but definitely worth checking out for those who love heavy metal and hard rock.

If you have listened to Iron Maiden from the beginning you know they are very consistent, always good, always outdoing themselves. Well, they surely have done it on this release. Their first double album and doubly good. Great in fact. If you don't know Iron Maiden, you have to get this one. A must-have for all rock music lovers to add to their collections!

If you are a fan of classic Iron Maiden, you will like this album. In an era where bands aren't doing as many records, Iron Maiden brings us this double album. Bruce sounds great on vocals, Steve plays his classic, galloping bass style, there are epic songs. This is definitely an Iron Maiden record, no doubt about it. It's definitely worth the purchase.

Since I saw Iron Maiden perform live in 2010 on "The Final Frontier" tour, I have not bought another of their studio efforts. But they haven't made one until now. Formed in 1975, the English Heavy Metal Group has released their sixteenth studio album as a double LP. And it doesn't disappoint. If you like your Maiden, you're gonna like this one too.

Like a fine wine Iron Maiden just keeps getting better. I have been a fan since the first album, a few years back :-), and this cd has the same energy that has always set Maiden apart from most metal bands. I could go on but suffice to say if you are a Maiden fan get this cd, I don't really need to say that you'll be glad you did, do I?

I bought this thinking it would be like the last few albums this band has released, but it was a very welcome surprise to find that Iron Maiden has gone back to writing great music that stands up to anything from their long ago heyday. This album rocks as hard as anything from their eighties output. Recomended

Bruce and the boys return for their first ever studio double-album, and their first new LP in five years. A few short songs, but there are some epic, near Dream Theater length songs. I think the album finale, Empire of the Clouds, clocks in around 20 minutes. Next to Dance of Death, Book of Souls is the best Maiden album since Bruce rejoined the band 15 years ago.

A long time fan of Iron Maiden much of their recent music has been bland at best. it seems that in this album they have taken it back to when music had a soul and a meaning. It embodies a little of everything that made them great without going overboard with production. And man Bruce can still sing...

Iron Maiden new album Book of Souls is worth it. From the concept form to Bruce Dickinson howling voice and non stop gut wrenching guitars and drums this is a hit all the way. For the new Maiden fans pick this up, and listen to greatness, then go back in the catalog. Awesome cd, Get It

The latest Iron Maiden Album is as good as the rest of the newer Maiden albums since the reformation with Bruce with Brave New World. The only problem? You keep wanting more when the full album has completed. It isn't for a lack of length of the songs, or quantity of the tracks.
