Silly, sad, and sometimes just annoying. Acting was great, story was boring. Especially--SPOILER ALERT--Clooney's character meeting the wife of his wife's lover.

"The Descendants" failed to live up to my modest expectations.
Disappointing. Well acted, The story is always the most important criterion for any film, and this story is dry and dull. If you want a nice George Clooney chick flick, instead go buy "Intolerable Cruelty" (a masterpiece).

Two big decisions that could forever affect your family’s future are ahead of you. One of them already made, the other still being debated. Then you’re hit with news you never saw coming and expected to deal with it quietly.
Matt King (played by George Clooney) is lawyer in Hawaii and, by virtue of his profession, the sole executor a family trust that controls 25,000 acres of untouched land on Kauai that they will lose relatively soon thanks to the rule against perpetuities. In addition, he is married with two daughters and their mother has been in a coma for six months since a boating accident and the terms of her living will dictate that she will soon be disconnected from life-support. His younger daughter, Scottie (played by Amara Miller), is unaware and is holding out hope that her mother will wake up. His seventeen year-old daughter, Alex (played by Shailene Woodley), is away at a reform school, of sorts, and stills bears a great deal of resentment for her mother as a result of being sent away. She claims the motivation for that decision was her discovery of her mother’s infidelity and says as much to her father. First rejecting the idea, Matt (Clooney) eventually accepts it and then decides to confront the other man in her life, bringing his daughters along under the pretense of a much needed respite.
Hawaiian music isn’t really my taste. Perhaps it’s the tone, perhaps it’s that I don’t speak and could never learn the language. On the other hand, it does set the mood beautifully as do the many shots showcasing Hawaii’s natural majesty. Clooney brings the conflict to life with a typically gripping performance and the cast all back him to varying degrees. I will say the part of Brian Speer, the man King (Clooney’s) wife was having an affair with was not very well-acted by Matthew Lillard but it’s a part with little screen time and few lines so it’s forgivable. See this movie.

Really good George Clooney film

I'm not a big George Clooney fan and don't really understand most Americans' fascination with him. He has been called a modern-day Cary Grant, which I don't agree with. However, I bought this movie, because I heard all of the good reviews and because it was filmed in Hawaii. I also thought the story sounded interesting and am a fan of Shailene Woodley. I thought that this was George Clooney's best performance in years, that Shailene Woodley gave a great performance, and that the scenery in the movie was really beautiful. I recommend this movie, especially for George Clooney fans.

A genuine drama that addresses some real-life issues in a beautiful place. The actors give strong performances, making it easy to relate and care about the main characters. And there are just enough light moments to keep the story moving. The Hawaiian locations are beautiful to look at, and the soundtrack sets a wonderful tone. Check it out.

This is a great movie. It is touching, heartfelt and thought provoking. I was dragged to this movie in the theater by my wife. Time very well spent. I really really enjoyed it and even bought it for our home collection.

I really enjoyed this movie and like that it came in Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital format. I was surprised that this version was less expensive than the DVD only version. The extras with the music videos and history of Hawaii were fun as well.

The cheating spouse theme is getting rather old! This is the second of such movies that George Clooney has starred in the last few years. I thought that the two actresses who played his daughters did a great job of acting. Especially the girl that played the eldest daughter. The scenery in Hawaii made the movie. Rate it 3.5... Not sure that I would give it a recommendation.

Best movie of 2012. Cast, video, and audio, excellent.. Plot, very realistic, and background like Michner's "Hawaii". Clooney's best movie so far.

Not a big Clooney "the actor" fan. The plot was interesting. Try to imagine his character's position. Tough. Just thought it was ok though. Buy when price drops.

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It is boring and Clooney's performance was just ok. He hasn't given a worthy performance since 97 Out of Sight. He got an Oscar nomination for acting on the same level as the other actor's in the movie. Seriously? Don't waste your time. It's better to spend 2 hours mowing the lawn instead of sitting thru this. I'm not sure what the other guy was watching who left a review before me.
