I'm currently at what I think is the halfway point of the game (given how many chapters I know there are) and did every subquest up to that point. At the very minimum it's a 7.5-8, but I'm giving it a 10/10 to counterbalance the reviews that basically never gave the game a chance. I was hooked by the end of chapter 1. The artwork is fantastic, voice acting is great (British English and Welsh accents as opposed to high pitched overly dramatic American English, thank goodness lol), good graphics, good RTS gameplay. Interacting with characters at the base is reminiscent to Fire Emblem Three Houses a tiny bit, but there's definitely not a lot of depth to the point of it becoming a social sim.
The performance on the Switch could be a bit more smooth with slowdowns of graphics in between loading screens, loading environments at the beginning of battles, and there are control glitches in terms of targeting enemies. No doubt this is probably a better experience on PC, especially with more graphical power and better controls (even though there are a lot mixed reviews on Steam as well). It could have benefitted from more polish in terms of the menus, equipment systems, balancing, and more variety in objectives and adding more varied fighting styles (like how I've heard Octopath 2 improved over its predecessor in nearly every way). With the exception of weapons, it's a bit annoying to have to check what your characters have equipped before buying more stuff. The story might introduce too much to process at certain points, but even then, there's literally a library that you can visit to catch up and get more details on any character, plot point, the political power struggle via drawings of copies of the world map, or any battle.
If this was literally an RTS game given a different name with "Final Fantasy" or "Fire Emblem" attached to it, it would've gotten a higher score, honestly. So don't let the negative reviews fool you; this is a valiant attempt from Lancarse/Square-Enix. They were hoping to make this a new franchise that continues on and I certainly hope they do just like with Octopath. With improvements, it could become a release to watch out for.

It holds up fine on the switch. I haven't had any crashes on the switch yet, but I will say that there is a small, noticeable difference with the graphics and the shading compared to the PS5/Xbox/PC version, which is to be expected, even if you're playing docked on the switch. I ALWAYS play docked) It's actually pretty fun, and the learning curve is not difficult. Even if you're not used to playing these types of games, I feel that almost anybody can jump into this and have fun with it. I would definitely recommend this game.

As a fan of strategy game, this one had a decent bit to offer and the story was alright. While I didn't pay full price for the title, I enjoyed the game and they even added a few expansion to make it a better value proposition. Look at a review first, but fans of strategy games might find a hidden gem in it.

One of Square Enix's lesser known titles. A good solid real time strategy game. Interesting storyline and excellent graphics. If you are unsure try the demo on the eshop before buying.

Got this on sale during Black Friday. It looked like a game I wanted to play because of trailers. Thankfully, the game is fun. Story is good. Gameplay seems balanced. On Switch, the game looks as good as it can get for handheld; if you want better graphics, look to the PS4/PS5 versions. Overall, I think the game is a lot of fun.
Note that if you get the game and play it before end of year, there is still an early access bonus you can take advantage of for a couple of free items.

I know that Diofield Chronicle got quite a few mixed reviews — you either really dug it or you didn't. No right or wrong answer. For me, I really dug it.

A very unique RPG on the Switch platform that works. The story isn't the best, but the gameplay is fantastic and that's what keeps you playing. It also runs well and looks great in handheld.
