    A great classic horror film.

One of, if not the, biggest cult horror film of all time. Loaded with dark humor, blood-spewing action, and genuine scares. Horror made completely from a borrowed budget, a cast made of friends, and a director whose twisted imagination knew no bounds. This is a film that horror fans will love. However, the weak of stomach and faint of heart may want consider an alternate form of entertainment.

Tons of people consider Evil Dead 2 to be the best in the series but I've always been partial to this one. I'm always skeptical when buying older horror movies on BluRay. I was pleased to find that although they cleaned it up so the image isn't distorted or jumping all over the place (something that a lot of the early DVD's had, and is especially noticeable on a 1080p TV) but it's still gritty. So, there you go. If you're buying the movie, you've probably already seen this schlock gem and they did right by it in the BluRay transfer.

    In a weird place.

The movie doesn't really work as a horror movie any more. I don't know if that is the effect of where they later took the series or just the age of the film showing. So if you haven't seen Evil Dead before and are looking for a great horror film I would suggest the remake. But there are still effective horror moments in the film, and it is always nice to go back for a bit of nostalgia. If you watched the new series on Starz and wanted to see where it all began this is a good version of the film to do that with.

Best possible presentation of no-budget classic

Yes, "Evil Dead" has been issued several times on DVD, but this Blu-ray sports an astonishing transfer that makes this edition essential. So good, in fact, that it makes the film's no-budget FX stand out in ways that must make Sam Raimi squirm with embarrassment. The only complaint? The original short film that served as the basis for "Evil Dead" is STILL MIA.

Purchased this as a Christmas present for my husband who is a huge Evil Dead fan. I was really excited about getting it at such a great price. I have not put the disc in to be able to comment on the quality of picture though.

Bruce Campbell is Awesome in a Horror Movie

The Evil Dead is quite terrifying. Sure it had funny moments but the other two movies, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness took it up a notch with the comedy. The original Evil Dead in my eyes seem really serious probably because it has a darker tone than other two movies and I think it's a little violent for a comedy hence the blood and gore.

The Evil Dead is such a classic, and this steelbook does it justice. For the price, it's really nice. It has a matte finish, with the original poster art on the front and on the back, a picture of Ash raising a chainsaw and his girlfriend cowering behind him. The inside is a navy blue color. Highly recommend it to any fan.

I'll occasionally come across this steelbook while looking over my blu-ray collection. It honestly is a really sleek, neat steelbook. Nothing too fancy here. The price is about the same as buying the standard blu-ray, which has the same contents on the disc. You just get a cooler packaging. Definitely worth the price.

This Blu-ray Steelbook is a great item for any collector. First, it uses the original and unmistakable original poster art for the film. This is the same release often found in the standard keep-case as of this writing. The cost of the Steelbook packaging is a few dollars more, but well worth it in my opinion.

Like my title states, I finally upgraded my DVD to 4K Blu and I feel it’s totally worth it. I was worried at first that it might just make the somewhat dated effects look bad, but the new update is great. Colors are good and so are the blacks. I’m very happy with my purchase.

No matter how many editions of the movie you might buy. Evil Dead stands out. This will go down as one of the masterpieces of horror for eternity. Even with a low budget it was great. Movies for a generation have tried to capture the horror Raimi created. Now we even have an awesome followup tv series.

The Evil Dead, in wonderful 4k and amazing sound. This looks so much better than when I first saw it on TV way back when horror films where shown on regular TV. Go out and get your copy. Of course, you can never erase the memories of wonderful 80s films on regular 4:3 TV.

Whoa, I was really impressed with this 4K disc. Did not expect it to be as good as it is. The Dolby Vision really helps and I highly recommend picking this up if you are a fan of the Evil Dead franchise, even if you already own a copy on regular Blu-ray or DVD.

This is the first in a trilogy of films from director Sam Raimi. Of the three, it is the truest horror film (about 90 %). It was also made on a shoestring budget but is an excellent example of what a talented director can do with very little. Highly recommended (for horror fans).

By now any horror buff worth their scares would know Evil Dead as an undisputed horror classic, and perhaps director Sam Raimi's magnum opus. Although undeniably aged, this classic still holds up well to this day and viewers will be in for a great time!

While not nearly as fun or iconic as Evil Dead II, this film is still a great little flick to watch with friends. PQ is about as good as it's going to get, given the film's 16mm origins, and the extras with Raimi and Campbell alone are worth the price of the BD. Go buy this.

Evil dead isn't as scary as it is entertaining. Not too much drama but a lot of gory scenes with crazy voice and scream dubs on the possessed victims. It keeps you wondering which friend will be next in line to become an evil killer. Bruce Campbell has his hands full trying to kill his possessed friends and this is where the movie really shines. Great make-up effects. Would recommend to any horror fans collection.

As a HUGE fan of the entire EVIL DEAD franchise grabbing this in 4K was not an option but more a RESPONSIBILITY and as it should be for you as well. The movie looks and sounds AMAZING and I am wicked excited adding this to my growing collection.❤

At first I debated whether or not an older low-budget movie like this would benefit from a 4K upgrade and the answer is it does. Simply put, the film has never looked better. As was the case with the mass market blu-ray release, the vintage bonus disc full of special features is not included which is a shame but this is still a very good release otherwise.
