I had liked a lot of John Carpenter's early films (Halloween, Escape From New York, The Thing, and Big Trouble in Little China). I had forgotten how bad this movie was - at least it is better than the remake. Probably the worse of the early Carpenter films.

It is a very slow pace movie with some bookended horror. The middle of the movie provides great atmosphere and character development. If that's your thing then go for it but if not then move along.
