While it's a definite classic in the Steve McQueen gallery, the movie was too long at 168 minutes, but great acting but a starry cast and once this feature gets going it's good, solid stuff. It definitely worth seeing the last 30 minutes for McQueen's motor-cycle bid for freedom.

The Great Escape fits into the genre of "on location films" that take you to venues outside of a Hollywood Set. Filmed in the fields outside Fussen near Germany's iconic "Cinderella" Castle built by King Ludwig II, the movie allows one to have a real feel for "being there."

Any "Tom, Dick, and Harry" will tell you it is one of the greatest movies ever made. With a spectacular cast of Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, and others all trying to escape a WWII POW camp. What more is there to say. Great movie.

Arguably one of Steve McQueen's more successful and popular films. The star studded cast really comes through. The tone and feel really makes you feel for each of the many unique characters in this film. James Garner is also absolutely essential and brilliant in this.

Significantly better than the older criterion release. Flawless compression. Wish it had HDR though, but that seems to be a shortcoming from MGM and not Kino.

Great Escape is the true story of Allied prisoners plotting to break out of detention camp. Bartlett (Richard Attenborough) is the British officer who masterminds the escape. Out of 250 prisoners, only 76 manage to escape, and the number soon dwindles to two dozen.

Hard for anybody to dislike this classic. Looks as good as it ever will on Blu-Ray, the film stock is old and blemishes are noticeable but take nothing from the enjoyment. Plenty of "extras" on the disc and the 4" x 6" stylized artwork you see in the picture for this release.

Steve McQueen and a group of POW U.S. soldiers are in a prison camp during WWII. They plot an escape. The cast of characters has you rooting for each one and the secrecy of the plot is interesting. A nice older film that looks cleaned up on Blu-ray.

I never grow tired of this film. Having a bluray version is required. The story is deeply engaging and lives up to the spirit of those who sacrificed so much to bring down oppression during WWII. The additional documentary features are fantastic.

A great movie. A great price. At $7.99 this would be a bargain, but for the Blu-Ray, it's a terrific deal. The mastering for the Blu-Ray is right on the money, the color is good, the aspect ratio is correct. I would gladly recommend this Blu-Ray to anyone.

I already have this on DVD but had not previously upgraded the Blu-ray because reviews were weak on the picture quality. Too bad the studio has not yet fully remastered this like some other catalog titles from the same era. That I would buy on day one! Instead, I ultimately could not pass up the $4.99 sale, as at that price the marginal upgrade in picture quality from DVD is worth it. But I still look forward to a full remaster someday.

this was an impulse buy as I was checking out. One of my all time favorite movies, remember watching it with my dad when I was a kid. Great movie, they don't make them like this anymore. Glad to have it on Blu-ray.

I'm building my blu-ray collection, and replacing some older movies I have in regular DVD format. I enjoyed this movie several years ago. One of the classics, and one of Steve McQueen's better roles. Good bargin, great movie in blu-ray.

As a collector of films and iconic motion pictures, "The Great Escape" is in my top ten list of World War II films. I was pleased to see the quality on Blu-Ray version was enhanced as well as the great soundtrack. Thanks Best Buy!

Kid if you're reading this and your under 25 just sit down on to watch how cool your grandparents were. Just to remind you you're no Steve McQueen and to get you to appreciate something older than you're iphone.

I wasn't sure how Blu-Ray would enhance this, but the clarity of the scenery was incredible. This is an absolute classic movie and this rendering has to be as good, if not better, than seeing it in the theater.

I picked this up for my Dad as a gift. We watched it together and enjoyed the heck out of it. Steve McQueen and a big cast of actors don't disappoint in this 3 hour film. lengthy but entertaining.

I have the previous Criterion blu ray edition and this Kino 4K release is actually a step above it, highly recommended!
