I have a number of WWI movies, as my grandmother was a WWI battlefield nurse, so I have been interested in this topic for years. With the recent release of Sam Mendes “1917”, I was interested to see the depictions of battle scenes, and I was pleasantly surprised! Ron Perlman as Black Jack Pershing was questionable, but otherwise I enjoyed the film. The best and most accurate portrayal of fighting in the trenches still has to be the Canadian film Passchendale.

This was another movie that showed the tenacity of the buffalo soldiers in action during WWII. The best part was the growing bond between men of different color as they battle an enemy much larger than themselves. The two well known characters play an insignificant part but the two main characters sold the story!

This is a low budget movie; however, despite the production flaws, this is a good story. Unfortunately, several times the negative was reversed and this was a serious distraction. This was made more obvious when the shoulder sleeve insignia on the uniform of one of the principal actors switched back and forth from the left to the right shoulder. If one overlooks the production flaws, the story is worthwhile.

I felt this was a great movie about how people react in combat. If you are in a situation where you need help and your life is on the line. A hand is there to save you. You are one color the hand is another color. Are you going to push that hand away? War is war.

i dont mind stories about overcoming inequality which thete certainly waz in ww1 and the black units got zero recognition but the portrait painted here did not resonate with me. I think it was taking on more of a 2020 out lokk rather than a 1917 out look. Understand where they were trying to go but missed the mark in my opinion.

Not many WWI movies come out, so I was happy to purchase this one to watch. I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. The war scenes were realistic and the setting and plot did not stray from typical historical WWI trench warfare descriptions. The plot did touch lightly on the debate over weather or not the last assault of WWI, on Nov 11th, was worth the casualties and deaths. The movie also accomplished a very uncomfortable but powerful portrayal of the racism of the period, that even existed in the trenches of WWI.

This is a good war movie, I hadn't seen this at the theater, so I picked up the dvd and watched it for the first time at home. I wasn't disappointed.

I thought that I would see alot of views within the Great War but found something awfully different and methodical. Rarely do I say don't buy something but you might not like this one.

This World War 1 flick satisfies but could have been epic with a bigger budget.

Poorly acted and directed. Whoever was the military adviser for this one didn't have a clue. Was kind of the standard fare for guys that don't know how war goes. Bunches of good guys all walking together and yelling at each other as they supposedly sneak up on the bad guys. People in combat aren't that stupid. Uniforms and weapons were very poorly done.

While “The Great War” takes place during the First World War, it’s more about the war within ourselves to overcome prejudice. Worth the watch.

Not much was focused on the black soldiers, I was a bit disappointed, but the action was okay.

My wife and I were not able to see this movie in our local movie theater and am happy we were able to purchase it at a good price from BestBuy and am looking forward to watching it as often as we want.

An interesting, historical type movie! I've always been fascinated with things historical!!! I enjoyed the flick!!!

I saw the reviews and was drawn to see for myself the relevance at this time in history. I was not disappointed.
