...Doesn't follow Tolkien's book. This is a fine enough film series. I think I figured out how Peter Jackson got three films out of one skinny book: He based it on his ego. Nothing entirely wrong with that as his Lord of The Rings extended versions were pretty durn swell themselves. But... And everyone has a but so let's talk about Jackson's really big but: Exempli gratia: Having a "She-Elf" (that is one high-larious term) fall for a dwarf is not just stretching it, it's a ridiculous taffy-pull of a stretch too. Dwarves bathing in a fountain isn't a stretch, it's just plain weird. And no Tom Bombadil is uforgiveable, hence the four out of five stars. That Jackson would rather have a Hitchcockian cameo and leave out Bombadil is proof of both a sense of humor and a blatant disgregard for Tolkien and his fans. Having said that, these Blu-Rays are visuall and sonically most excellent. So then. Be excellent to each other and treat you and your family and friends to a Friday or Saturday or Sunday-if-Monday-is-a-holiday Hobbit Fest! Four stars means tis very recommendamundo! Trust me...I know what I'm doin' when I'm reviewin'.

Getting all three movies at the same time was well worth it. Extended versions better than the theater release

many deleted/extended scenes that add to the enjoyment of this movie. Great for the whole family.

Bought on Black Friday for an outstanding price. These films are not as great as the Lord of the Rings films but they do complement those ones very nice. The bonuses are great and also complement the other box set well.
