I usually tend to like my westerns with a bit more gunplay, but this one is really good to me without it. It's really sad but it also has some offbeat humor in it.

The disc played fine, no problems. The story was somber/melancholy but gave good insight into what people/women faced in 1850 - pioneering the great plains. A good story, well acted by all. The leads held by Tommy Lee Jones (who also directed) and Hilary Swank (who had no problem presenting herself as very plain), A far cry from her movie P.S. I Love You. HA! Plus a cameo by Meryl Streep, (as always, great job). The story provides a strikingly bleak portrait of life for women trying to settle the Midwest USA. The story - a haunting collage of madness and strength - a very risky film for Jones but I think he pulled it off.

This was a good movie for any fan of Tommie Lee Jones. It was a little different and I don't recall when this came out, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a good movie and entertaining, with an unexpected story line.

What a great cast of characters in this movie!! Tommy Lee Jones has a great sense of humor in this movie even though it is a sad movie for the most part.

This movie is one of those movies that takes you by surprise. You just can’t imagine what’s next . It definitely keeps your attention

Very good film that portrays the stresses of people living on the frontier especially for women. There are a couple of graphic scenes that may be too much for younger people to see. However, for mature audiences an excellent film.

I was entertained all the way through. You can't really ask much more of a movie. If you enjoyed the Ken Burn's documentary series, "The West" then this movie may be worth a watch. Tommy Lee Jones capably directs and shines a unique light on the pioneer life of the 1850's. What makes this movie unique is that it shows the hardships that women had to endure in a very unflinching way that is not seen often in westerns. It doesn't do it in a boring or preachy way which is why I enjoyed it. I don't want to spoil anything but I will say that this movie goes to some dark and gritty places that I was not expecting and then shows the resulting debilitating psychosis that is the inevitability of such a harsh life.

One of the best movies I've watched in a long time. It was much truer to what you would think the reality of the west was than how it's typically portrayed.

The Homesman movie was great....great acting by Tommy Lee Jones and Hillary Swank. Interesting story line--held my attention. Movie was well done.

The environment, the Old West,, hostile and brutal, especially to women and children, is realistic. After that, the story is harder to survive.

Tommy Lee Jones is a wonderful actor. I watch everything he does. This shows the hardships of pioneer life for women.
