I bought this for a 19 year old family member. He has enjoyed it and I have played it with him too. It's kind of like a classic shooter arcade game. It is pretty bloody and is a little too much for younger kids.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I always liked house of the dead games I have the 2nd one on dreamcast and the 3rd on xbox, but you can't use the light guns on new tvs. now I can play thiese with light guns again.
