Not as good as the 1984 version but it's actually pretty good. Decent karate moves. Worth a watch

Being a child of the 80's I was quite excited when I found out they were going to "re-vamp" the Karate Kid. With all the other remakes that have been coming out in the last couple of years, the Karate Kid seemed like an obvious choice. As with any remake I feel most of us are going to hold this movie under a microscope and expect it to be exactly like the original, which is where I feel they did a really good job... of NOT catering to those expectations.
A lot of the elements from the original franchise are present, although it was updated, and adjusted enough to make the new Karate Kid its own movie. They spend more time introducing you to the characters of this movie where the originals revolved too much around 2 or 3 people, this one gives a better cast revolving more around the whole picture than just the "teacher/student/villian" character triangle.
Jayden Smith is young, fresh faced, and has attitude, and while he still has a lot to learn about acting, for being 12 years old he's got some serious acting chops, it will be nice to see him grow and mature. I felt his acting and presence were a lot stronger than Ralph Machio was when he played the Kid in the 80's, but being that the acting world was quite different 16 years ago than it is today, comparing Jayden to Ralph, or this Karate Kid to the Original is like Apples to oranges.
Jackie Chan is the man and always shines. I would have liked to see a little more action out of him, but I feel it would have taken away from the story. His physical humor always present allowed for a few laughs at just the right times.
Finally the overall story was great. It wasn't just a boy learning to fight to keep bullies away. Without knowing it, he learned patience, respect, and the rewards that come from hard work.

The Karate Kid (2010) is a wonderful film for the whole family to enjoy. This package comes with a Blu-ray disc with the film playing in 1080p HD, a DVD copy, and a digital copy (a feature on the DVD) to put into your iPod or other mp3/mp4 player.
The storyline is very similar to the original 1984 film. The acting is very good. Jaden Smith is very convincing with his emotions in the film. The battle sequences look brutal (more realistic) compared to the original. Cinematography is top-notch. The film is over two hours long.
With parents of fairly younger viewers, here is the link to a parents' guide of the film:

This is a great family movie. I purchased this for my 3 and 5 year old boys and they really enjoyed. My older son takes tae kwondo so he was more into the movie than my younger son. This is a really good movie and worth owning it.

I truly love the 2010 Karate Kid! I love the actors and the music in the movie and how the music fits perfectly with the movie scenes. It also teaches a lot of life lessons especially for kids who are being bullied a lot and feel like the underdog. It truly shows that when life knocks us down, we can choose whether or not to get back up!.

I couldn't stop watching...........had tears in my eyes a few times. I have children and we have had to relocate in the past. I'm glad that they never endured the challenges faced by the Karate Kid. Cast and acting was fabulous in this movie. I recommend you buy the movie and add it to your collection immediately!!!! It was that great!!!!

Great movie. the cinematography was excellent. only one complaint the movie was a little far fetched at times, but I went into this expecting that. Jackie chan was excellent and jaden was good too you can see his father in him.

While a remake (and technically the Kung Fu kid), it held key portions of the originals plot but with a few changes that seem a bit more realistic. Also has helped teach my 4 year old that learning to fight is so that you don't have to....

Decent contemporary remake with Jackie Chan humor and set in oriental location which adds to film. Same plot and average acting make it definitely not a 'must see' - entertaining with the same uplifting plot as original.

I bought this movie for my 8yr old son. He absolutely loves it. We all love this movie. I was a little disappointed at a few of the words used but other than that, it was a great choice for the family.
