Definitely an underrated show. I thoroughly enjoyed this show very much. If you're a Soderberg fan, then of course you should check it out.

It makes me sad that this wonderful series didn't make it to at least the third season, because it was so well written and acted. I love any show that takes place in the past, but the subject matter of this show is fascinating. Set in NYC at the turn of the 20th Century, doctors & nurses struggle to aid the sick at the Knickerbocker Hospital (The Knick). I loved how this show was not afraid to tackle subjects that we still wrestle with today...racism, sexism, governmental corruption, abortion, just to name a few. The characters are well rounded and you care for them. With the battle the hospital staff must wage on behalf of their patients with the medicine & equipment of that era, it makes you grateful for modern medical practices.

This show is fantastic! It's worth watching for the cinematography alone. The show is fantastic at depicting turn of the century New York and the advances in surgical technology that was being developed at the time. But the show not only is extremely well crafted but had wonderful performances mainly by Clive Owen who shows a tortured, frantic and intelligent doctor Thickery. The show also deals with multiple delicate subjects such as abortion, race, feminism, sexism and prejudice. It's also super gory and fantastic!! Would definitely recommend.

No wonder The Knick was picked up for a thriving second season! Clive Owen and the brilliant ensemble cast carry us back to 1900, when surgical tecniques and equipment were being invented often as quickly as computer programs today. You will be there "on the cutting edge" as Clive, as chief surgeon pushing himself and others all the while fueled and fighting with a growing coccain addiction. Abortion and interracial love also leaves it's marks on vulnerable lives. Step back in time. You will not be able to do anything but marathon viewing!

hospital in 1900 new York headed by doctorTthackery / Clive Owen is a very well acted drama from that era all the issues hospital is having from new electric system to surgical advances been made there also the corruption by some staff and venders is typical for the time well worth watching especially Dr Thackery's demons come home to roost putting the future of the hospital in jeopardy

The Knick is an engrossing medical drama set in the early 20th century when leaps and bounds were made in modern medicine. As the main character Dr. Thackeray portrayed by Clive Owen says in the first episode, more innovations and discoveries were made at that time in the past four years than in the past four hundred. It's a well-acted and crafted show from director Steven Soderbergh.

It's hard to keep up with all the quality TV shows at our disposal, but I recommend "The Knick" for anyone interested in gripping, sometimes disturbing drama. Clive Owen is perfect in the leading role, one that far surpasses any big screen part he's had in quite a while. The Blu-ray is worth an upgrade; I'm passing along the DVD version to a friend.

Great new series. The story line is very good. The writers and actors take you back one hundred plus years when the medical profession was slowly starting to win the battle against disease. But still faced the medical Russian roulette problem of what would kill you first the illness or the cure. Probably not a good idea to eat pizza while watching this one

The Knick is a well done series, as I've come to expect from HBO (Cinemax) studios. It is a unique look into a different time in America that includes many terrific actors. The included commentary gives a lot of insight into the background of medicine during this time and connects the story to real life people and events.

This show is amazing. It's one of those shows you inadvertently find yourself binge watching when you only intended on watching one episode. I had initially gone somewhere else to purchase this after seeing they had it in stock online but failed to find it. I ended up finding it easily here and at a better price.

I had previously seen this entire series on cable. I liked it so much that I bought it as a birthday present for my mother and watched all over again with her. From the accuracy of medicine/procedures during the early 20th century to the depth and almost separate character stories it is well worth watching.

This is a medical drama like you have never seen before .Whats amazing is the medical practices of the 19th century that were used and the amount of people that died during those procedures . This gives you a greater appreciation of advancements in medicine that we have today .This is a must see medical drama .

This show is AMAZING! It's not one of those run of the mill medical dramas. The show focuses on medicine during the early 20th century while focusing on other storylines pertaining to this time. By the end of each episode, it will have you on the edge of your seat wanting to watch more.

This show starts out great with the first season. The show itself is entertaining and interesting to watch surgery being performed with limited technology. The Blu Ray set had everything I needed, including the digital copy so I can watch on my iPad.

Barely anyone talks about this show, and probably because it's aired on Cinemax. I only came across it because my cable provider offered me free Cinemax for a couple of months and that show happened to be on. It was amazing and worth buying.

Clive Owen was always a good actor. He doesn't let you down in this story that he plays a famous surgeon in a not so famous hospital at the turn of the century in New York City. Very good supporting cast and was worth the purchase of the first season. Would like to see what happens in the second season.

This was a complete blind buy for me but I bought it when it was on sale and I usually like Clive Owen. The aspect of this show is quite unique and I thoroughly enjoy it although it can me quite graphic at times. Cant wait to get season 2, hopefully the show is renewed as it is currently in limbo.
