A small addition to an amazing game.

It should be noted that this review is based off the first part of the season pass, The Master Trials, the second and final part should be out by the end of year and I'll update my review once I play it. The main part of this dlc is the Trial of the Sword challenge. It's a 45 floor dungeon of sorts, split up over three sections. All of your equipment and items from the main game are taken away when entering the trial but don't worry, you get it all back once you're out. Completing each section of the Trial will upgrade your Master Sword, with all 3 sections completed you get the true Master Sword. While I enjoyed the challenge of the Trial immensely, I do wish that it wasn't all combat focused. It would have been nice to have a few puzzle floors mixed in. There are a few other things added with the 1st dlc. Some new armor sets can now be found but they don't add much to the experience. The only piece with a unique effect is the Korok Mask, which will shake and make noise when a Korok is near. With a staggering 900 Koroks hidden throughout the game, the mask is a big help in finding them but I can't help but feel that it should have been in the game to start with, not locked behind dlc. It also adds a new hard mode. Again, like with the Korok Mask, I feel that the hard mode should have just been unlocked when you beat the game instead of being locked behind a pay wall.

Great game for BoTW if you like some additional challenges. Worth the money for the extra contents if you like the main game . A bit more expensive than the original though as the cost/content ratio is much higher.

The first DLC pack for Breath of the Wild gives plenty of fun new items to play with, and the Trial of the Sword which is super challenging and will give you fits. Master Mode is the perfect way to get back into a new play through with much more challenging enemies!

Breath of the Wild might just be my favorite video game of all time and I've been playing 'em since the mid 80s. No other game has created a world more ripe for exploration and this Expansion Pass just adds more to an already overwhelming stew. Everything about it is simply top notch. Really wish my gear wouldn't break so easily, though.

The Zelda: Breath of the Wild expansion passis well worth the price of purchase, offering much tougher challenges than in the base game and a memorable addition to the original game's story in the Champions Ballad.

I can wear Majora's Mask. I can look like Phantom Ganon. Do you really need more? Well, I suppose you would. You can't even upgrade the defense of the armor sets, which is a downer, but they have unique and powerful effects and they look *really* cool. Besides the extra armors you can obtain in-game with this DLC, there are a ton of extra shrines and unlockables. Beating the Champions' Ballad DLC unlocks the Master Cycle Zero, the single best mount in the game (pretty good for scaling not-too-steep cliffs) and upgrades the recharge times of all Champion powers. Beating the Trial of the Sword DLC makes the Master Sword stay at its peak power (60 attack), which is usually only available while near Calamity Ganon's Malice (the purple goop) and corrupted Guardians, plus it's a fun challenge that I didn't find too frustrating at most parts with a guide. Some people don't believe it was worth $20, but I disagree. I've more than gotten my money's worth. Could the Champion DLC have been better? Sure. I expected some more story content, not just a replay of the Divine Beast boss fights and an extra cutscene per Champion, but the shrines were fun, the rewards were good and the cutscenes, while only adding a few, were cool and give you a tiny bit of insight into each Champion and what they were like before the events of the game. I would say that you should go ahead and look up everything that comes with the DLC and decide how much of it you want. There are two DLC packs, so they are effectively $10 each. This expansion pass gives you both for $20. If you want the armor sets, the extra shrines, the Master Cycle Zero, the Trial of the Sword and Master Mode (harder difficulty: enemies regenerate, floating platforms with enemies and treasures are spread throughout the world, tougher enemies appear in early parts of the game and enemies gain a new tier called "gold" such as Gold Bokoblins and Gold Lynels), then get it. I regret nothing.

I’m normally not a fan of DLC, but for the price you do get a lot more play time in an already great game. You can easily put 500+ hours into this game with the DLC, and the added gear bonuses are nice too since amiibo stock is low and hard to find.
