The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a gem bursting with charm and intricate puzzles. This updated classic is a nostalgia trip for veteran fans and a masterpiece for any adventure game enthusiast. The graphics are insanely cute and vibrant, adding to the whimsical feel. Unfortunately, some performance issues like occasional slowdown can be distracting. However, don't let these technical flaws deter you from trying this marvelous game. If you love charming adventures with a playful art style, Link's Awakening is a must-play.

This game is amazing especially the fact that they can just remaster any old game and make it like it never existed in the past. But in this case it did the only issue is when you remaster a game you should remaster it so the console you play it on can handle it. Nintendo Switch needs to definitely be remastered not in the case that its versatile and it's amazing already but the fact that the internal components need to be upgraded as in video while playing Zelda if you fall into an area that has multiple enemies you start getting frame drops. I've noticed this right off the bat. A lot of games that were made for Nintendo switch that are outstanding on any other system seem to fall short. One example is Mortal Kombat 11 this game is amazing when it comes to graphics and detail but on Nintendo Switch the game is slow and seems like you're playing it on PS2. I do not blame the creators of Zelda on this I blame Nintendo for not putting an amazing video card and processor in this unit. Hopefully Nintendo next generation decides to stick with the competitors when it comes to this otherwise they're always going to be falling short as I've noticed throughout the years with Wii and Wii U. Overall the game will keep you busy and you will have a fun time exploring so have fun but don't let the frame drops bother you

Great gaming returning to a simpler 2.5D era of the NES and SNES. The gameplay is familiar, although the plot is a bit simpler than those that have come since. Originally created for the Gameboy, the restrictions on capacity at the time show in duration, but the graphical updates here make it a slightly different experience.

As someone who grew up playing the original Game Boy version of Link's Awakening, I'm pretty familiar with the source material, but it sure didn't feel like it when playing this update for Switch. It was very recognizable, but also strangely foreign in almost every respect. The layout of the entire world looks and feels very different with the restraint of screen-by-screen scrolling eliminated outside of dungeons. It greatly alleviates the Game Boy version's feeling of cramped, and often tedious travel. In terms of visuals, this game couldn't change much to improve just how perfectly it's suited to my taste. Not only does it look great on its own terms, it also does an excellent job of re-creating the charm of the simple pixel art it's based on. There are improvements to the game design that run deep. The most impressive features for me were the expanded bonus games, like the raft ride, the crane game, and especially the fishing. Each one adds quite a bit of extra incentive to keep coming back, and they're each highly improved in terms of complexity and satisfaction in providing a fair, but demanding enough challenge that's just genuinely fun. The game didn't make its big transition unscathed, though. Essentially every single change to the basic play control -- movement and animation -- makes the game about 10 times harder to play, and quite a bit more frustrating compared to its retro counterpart. There were several great ideas implimented in the control scheme, like dedicating several of the buttons to the most-used actions, which vastly streamlines the tiresome routine of opening and closing the menu to change items for every little situation. However, Link feels more rigid to control, harder to aim with an analog stick, and his jumping feels disorientingly unwieldy. If you're used to cutting corners when jumping over gaps as was possible on Game Boy, you may find it difficult if not impossible to perform the same maneuvers on Switch. Lastly, the biggest detriment to the game is the dungeon building activity. You'll be tasked with using rooms you'll recognize from the dungeons you've cleared to arrange them in a layout of new dungeons, then you can play those dungeons. It sounds like a concept with a lot of promise, and while it's more intriguing than you might expect, it really doesn't live up to the potential. The worst part is that this segment isn't just an optional bonus. It's actually required to build and complete TWELVE arranged dungeons to earn all the items like heart containers for extending the player's life meter, seashells for upgrading the player's attack, and the last bottle for healing. Nine might have been tolerable. Three to five would have been fine, but twelve is completely unreasonable. This extremely tedious obstacle to complete item collection means that you can't just start up a game and enjoy the full adventure the way you would in the original. You're now burdened with a load of chores that you may not be on board with. Despite all that -- and I can't stress enough how big of a flaw it is -- I still HIGHLY recommend the game. It's worthwhile just for the novelty of seeing how the world has been re-imagined, but the rewards you'll find go well beyond that. Fans of Zelda will find this to be an authentic example of the best features in the series. Newcomers couldn't start with a better installment, beautifully updated for modern demands in visuals and control scheme conveniences.

I am a big fan of zelda but never played the original that this is based on. If your a huge fan, get it. I won't be able to talk you it off out anyways. If your not a big fan or only some what interested then wait to get it on a good deal. It was originally made for the game boy. Compared to any other zelda game, the map is tiny. But still fun to explore.

I am so happy I took the chance and bought this for my Switch......I 1st got introduced to the Zelda World in 1986. Had so much fun back then, I played it 3-4 times. Loved the puzzles and adventuring. Now 30+ years later I am enjoying the upscaled version even more! Anyone who has played and enjoyed the original Zelda HAS to give this a try! Well worth it!

The original version of this game, on the original black and white Game Boy, accompanied me to Japan on my exchange student trip 26 years ago. The remake of this game, while intimately familiar, brings with it a ton of updates and improvements. Being able to use so many more buttons really makes playing this feel like playing any modern Zelda game. For those new to the adventures of one of the most famous green-clad protagonists, this is a great way entry point into the series. While rescuing Zelda isn't the point of this particular game, it still retains the hallmark pot smashing, chicken attacking, puzzle solving game play that the series is known for. I let my 5 year old daughter have a go after she was interested in the cartoony graphics, and within a few minutes, she caught on quickly, and I was pleased to watch her mind work as she tried to figure out different enemy attack patterns (using a shield is brand new to her). While the game is pretty quick to complete compared to the more main titles (this is, after all, a port of the original Game Boy game), the polish on the refresh and the nostalgia put it on an equal footing with any other Zelda adventure.

This game is so much fun! It is a must own if you have the switch. I recommend the physical version of the game. I do not like digital games. Digital games won't be available years from now when Nintendo drops online support. Buy the physical version for all of your games!

Link’s Awakening is a charming and visually delightful remake that brings a beloved classic to life with a fresh coat of paint. The adorable art style and polished presentation make it one of the most visually distinctive Zelda titles to date. A nice bonus is the free upgrade for Switch 2 users, ensuring better performance on newer hardware. However, at its core, this is still a Game Boy game. The gameplay retains the simplicity—and sometimes the quirks—of early '90s design. Puzzles can feel a bit convoluted, and the progression isn’t always intuitive, especially by modern standards

If you enjoyed the original game on the Game Boy, then this is an excellent game to play. The pacing is great and it doesn't drag at any point. Modern quality of life features have only made the game better. If you're a stickler for consistent 60 fps, then maybe look up performance reviews before buying. It didn't bother me personally.

Wonderful remake, classic game. I just wish they’d made it longer. However Best Buy FINALLY matched the price of the physical copy with the digital copy. They need to do that with ALL GAMES. Why do we have to pay more when we’re not even getting as much?

One of the best Zelda games gets gorgeously remastered. A must buy for any Link's Awakening fan. They wasted their time on the dungeon maker, they could have added something deeper rather than the maker with 0 incentive to partake in it. Either way, well worth the money.
