One of the Greatest GameCube Games in HD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not only do I believe this is one of the best games on GCN, but I also believe it is one of the greatest Legend of Zelda games ever made! I was hooked by the story, and the HD treatment along with fixes from the GameCube version makes things like sailing and a hunt for treasure pieces towards the end of the game a lot easier to go through. It felt like a grind in the original version. I love this game!

A great (and fairly conservative) of a great game.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker was fist released for the Nintendo Gamecube more than a decade ago (!), and you know what? It has aged surprisingly well and with some game play tweaks from nintendo it is a must for any wii u owner. -Your inventory can be managed on the wiiu gamepad without having to pause and bring up a menu on your tv screen, saving time whilst swapping items and looking at maps. -Support for Wii U pro gamepad for those who have it -Fully functional gameplay on just the Wii U gamepad screen if your friends or family are hogging the tv screen. -accelerometer aiming with the wii u pad for precision shots. -optional collectible in-game item that circumvents tedious wind redirection, making the sailing portions of the game MUCH faster.

A+
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I missed out on this game when it first came out for the Game Cube and I always regretted it because I heard it was good. Well, there was a sale on the HD version and I'd heard nothing but good thing about the updates and tweaks they made to it, so I thought I'd give it a try. Admittedly, I can't compare this to the original, but on its own merits it was quite a treat. It's fairly straight-forward for a Zelda game, but there's plenty of extra stuff to do. Since it's on the Wii U, no need to fight with a Wii Mote (which was awful for Zelda games, I think). The music is great as is the animation/graphics. Overall, very enjoyable.

The best Gamecube game comes to the Wii U
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Wind Waker was one of my favorite games on the Gamecube and is now one of my favorite on the Wii U. The graphics have been updated and look fantastic. This isn't just an upscale there are many little details that were re-done that look great. Some of the gameplay aspects have been improved too such as including a Swift Sail to speed up sailing.

First time I played this game is on Wii U.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember when this game first released on Nintendo's Gamecube, I did not play it then. So this new Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker in HD is like a different experience from how I remember the original, and let me tell you potential consumer, that there is nothing wrong with that. The graphics in this game are outstanding, watching Link's facial expressions as I maneuvered him through dungeons is a visual feat. This game is like playing a highly detailed cartoon with smoke and lighting effects that look almost alive next to the dynamic backgrounds. The swordplay is really fun and fluid, it is also satisfying to slay a foe of any size and claim victory over a pesky dungeon. The character design is something to admire with Ganon looking like a total bad guy even though he doesn't really say anything until later in the game. I'm glad that Nintendo gave this game a makeover, or else I wouldn't have played it at all. There is a certain trend that is beginning to develop as I break in my recently purchased Wii U, and that is that Nintendo doesn't mess around. Sure they say it could be weaker than the new XBOX One and PS4 but in what regard? I have played the other two systems and I say that the Wii U is on par with the competition as far as graphical output is concerned. Nintendo has strict quality measures and I like that because they will not release a game until it is polished beyond any bugs or glitches. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was apparently a game changer when it was first released back in 2003, and it is no surprise that this HD remastered version is still revolutionary in 2014. I'm not a Nintendo fan boy, I am a video game fan, and I am proud to have the Wii U Deluxe and Legend of Zelda in my library, a great compliment to my gaming PC. Highly recommend the gaming console and the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

I can't give a Zelda game less than 5 stars but
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very wide open world. If you miss one of the little hints as to where you should be going you could be sailing around for the rest of your life with no hope of finding where you are supposed to be. Everything else about this game is top notch as you would expect from Zelda.

Wind Waker in HD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I loved the Wind Waker on the original Gamecube and now we have this gem remastered on the Wii U. This game was originally met with criticism, but quickly became a staple in the Legend of Zelda franchise. The cell shaded graphics look amazing on the Wii U.

One of the Best in the series
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whether you are playing this game for the first time or even if you played it on the GameCube originally there is no denying that this is one of the most creative and enjoyable games in the entire Legend Of Zelda series. I like how Nintendo enhanced the visuals and audio but went way beyond just upscaling the graphics to improve the gameplay, incorporate the gamepad creatively, and revive a game that was originally released 10+ years ago. This is how all remakes should be done!

Honest review from a 25+ year Zelda fan
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a fan of, and playing the Legend of Zelda games since I was a youngin' playing the original on my NES. I have always enjoyed the exploration, puzzle, follow the clue aspects of the games. The stories are always pretty well written and never felt half-...baked. I have played (and i mean PLAYED) Zelda 1,2, Links Awakening, Ocarina, Majora's, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. I never had a Game Cube, so I missed Wind Waker, so It is all new to me. Wind Waker is certainly a classic Zelda game in all regards. There is plenty to explore and quite a slew of secret passages, hidden treasures, and clues to follow and mysteries and puzzles to solve. At first, I felt that the story was a little weak. Links sister gets kidnapped, as well as a bunch of other "pointy eared girls" by a giant bird and taken to a big spooky fortress... But the more I played it, the more the story unfolds, and the more I got into it. Although I have found the story more engaging, I still feel like some of the elements are a bit more "childish" (like "Tingle", a talking dragon boat), but this is coming from someone who is a bit older now than what I'm sure the target audience is. After the first few hours though, I was sucked in and had to smash every rock, talk to every person, and find every passage before I could move on... just like old times I havent finished the game yet, but from what I have done (about half) is everything I would have expected it to be, with some surprises. I understand that this is a remake of the 10 year old game for Game Cube, so I keep that in mind as I move to the more critical side of the review. Having played Ocarina (and Majora's) a LOT. I find a handful of the elements of Wind Waker "recycled" from those. Since this game and console was a step up from the N64 i would have expected the music and sound effects to be a step up too. Instead, many of the sound effects are exactly the same. Some of the music is exactly the same. All of the music still has that early 90's MIDI player sound to it. I find that the concept of the Wind Waker wand is quite similar to that of the Ocarina. Use the device, by directional pad, to play different songs that carry out important game functions. One is a flute, one a wand. Granted many Zelda games have a flute, but it is a flute, it plays music and does some important function. It feels like someone said, "I like the Ocarina idea, but, lets make it a wand this time"! The graphics of the game are good, not what I would call revolutionary though and certainly not Wii U caliber. Granted this is a remake or a 10 year old game, which I would dock a point for maybe two if I had played the original. Yes they are HD, there are some cool lighting and shadow effects. The game graphics all have a hand drawn cartoon look to them. Yes the edges are razor sharp, but still hand drawn and cartoony looking. For example, the water is a sea of blue "ink" with black "sharpy pen" humps and peaks for waves. It is in no way transparent or realistic looking. It all fits the cartoony look and feel of the game just fine. Just makes me "feel" a bit more like I am playing a kids game. Add that to the character models, dialog, and story elements and it feels less mature to me than even Ocarina and MM did back when I was in my early 20s. I really enjoyed the more grown up look and feel of Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword and am REALLY looking forward to Zelda U (or whatever they are going to call the Wii U feature Zelda game) and hope the build on those elements. Wind Waker is a great game, dont get me wrong. Even a mid 30's Zelda fan Like my self has thoroughly enjoyed playing it. Its right up there with all the rest. It is a worthy remake (after all it got me to buy a Wii U). There is plenty to be explored, plenty puzzles to crack and bosses to beat. All this makes it easy to look passed the less mature look and feel of the game and the handful of recycled sounds and concepts from the passed. There is just something that seems to lack the "epic" and "OMG" feeling some of the games before and certainly after it had. If I could give it a 4 1/2, I would. But I think it is a great game that any Zelda fan of any age will enjoy and appreciate.
